It’s important to make sure your tires are adequately filled, but for some Toyota Tundra owners, that may be a problem. A recall notice has been issued for some 2007-2011 Tundras because they may be afflicted with faulty tire pressure monitoring systems. Approximately 1,629 pickups are affected by this recall, as it is limited to vehicles handled by Southeast Toyota Distributors.

The TPMS were incorrectly calibrated, which means the warning lamp will not light up despite a tire being under-inflated. Owners of potentially affected trucks are being notified, and dealers will recalibrate the systems free of charge.

Are 2007-2008 Jeep Wrangler SUVs spitting up gas?

Some Jeep Wrangler owners say they’ve been getting a nasty surprise from their 2007-2008 Wranglers. According to 600 complaints and 900 warranty claims, the Jeep off-roaders have been spitting gas at their owners during fill ups.

According to owners, the Jeeps have a tendency to spit fuel back out of their filler lines if you aren’t paying close attention at the pump. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation into the claims in November 2010, but closed it in February after finding that the fuel leaks don’t pose any significant safety hazard.

NHTSA also said that internet forums had played a role in the number of complaints they received, after forum members posted messages telling other owners to file complaints with NHTSA. Despite the number of complaints, NHTSA says many of them were unfounded and based solely on the urging of message boards.

Jeep owners who experienced the problem aren’t convinced, however, saying that the problem is dangerous, and carries a repair valued at about $600, though Chrysler warranties cover most of the repair.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration has issued a recall for select Aston Martins. If you own a V8 Vantage, DB9 or DBS produced during the 2007 and 2008 model years, you should head on in to your local dealership. A cam bolt in the front bottom suspension arm could crack, allowing the lower control arm to move about in ways it shouldn’t.

As always, dealers will replace the bolt free of charge. The recall is scheduled to begin on or before October 18th, 2010 and is said to potentially affect 1,090 vehicles.

Report: First shipment of new and used cars since 2007 arrives in Gaza

Filed under: Car Buying, Government/Legal, Hyundai, Kia, Middle East

Gaza Strip car shipments

Wherever you live, buying a car – new or used – holds its share of challenges. But for the residents of the embattled Gaza Strip, geopolitical issues have made buying a car all but completely impossible. That is, until today, when a shipment of 20 new and used cars arrived by truck for first time since 2007.

The freeze has been in effect since the Palestinians elected the militant anti-Israel terrorist organization Hamas to their parliament. Following the elections and the kidnapping of Gilad Shalit (who still remains in captivity four years later), Hamas seized control of the coastal strip and kicked out the established Palestinian Authority, prompting the implementation of sanctions and a tightening of the borders by neighboring Israel and Egypt.

The Palestinian Authority, governed by the secularist Fatah party of chairman Mahmoud Abbas, still controls the disputed West Bank territories of Judea and Samaria, as well as border control along the Gaza Strip. Israel has been easing sanctions as a good will gesture as part of currently ongoing peace talks with Abbas.

The new shipment consisted primarily of new and used Hyundai and Kia models arriving via the Kerem Shalom border crossing named after the local agricultural commune, but which Palestinians call Kerem Abu Salem. With no local car industry, many of the cars in the Palestinian-controlled territories are stolen from Israel proper. Thanks to Brady for the tip.

2007-2010 Volvo S80 recalled for tire-pressure monitoring system

Filed under: Sedan, Recalls, Safety, Volvo

The ever-conscious safety fanatics at Volvo have realized it’s unwittingly made a mistake on their 2007-2010 S80 sedans. It seems that the maximum permissible tire pressure information was printed incorrectly in the owner’s manuals and on the sticker pasted to the vehicles’ door jams. Worse, that same incorrect inflation data is hard-coded into the cars’ tire-pressure monitoring systems.

Volvo claims that it has never received any complaints on the issue and that it found the problem on its own. Naturally, though, the Swedish automaker is keenly interested in getting the problem rectified and will replace the incorrect manuals and stickers, and update the S80’s software to correct the tire-pressure monitoring system.

We’ve posted the recall information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after the break. Owners are urged to call Volvo at 1-800-458-1552 or email customercare -at- volvoforlife.com for further information.
