OnStar 'Push On' Sweepstakes

Starting today, General Motors is holding a car giveaway sweepstakes through its OnStar division. The contest will award 10 lucky OnStar users a brand new Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick or GMC of their choosing. To enter, contestants need only to push their vehicle’s OnStar button.

According to GM, it’s not necessary for the contestants to be OnStar subscribers to enter – all you need is an OnStar-equppied vehicle and you’re ready to go. The idea here is that non-subscribing customers enter the contest and realize the many benefits of having OnStar.

The winners of the contest will be allowed to pick any General Motors product as their prize – everything from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 or Cadillac CTS-V to the Buick Regal or GMC Canyon. (Pick the CTS-V Sport Wagon. You’ll thank us later.) The only vehicle off limits is the illustrious Chevrolet Volt. GM’s contest is open for entries until May 31. Hit the jump for GM’s official press release.

AMG and Ducati announce partnership, will sponsor MotoGP effort

Nicky Hayden at AMG event at LA Auto Show

It’s a good time to jump on the Ducati MotoGP bandwagon. Sure, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer always fields a highly competitive juggernaut of a racing team, despite being a small fraction of the size of its chief rivals. But, with the recent signing of fan-favorite and nine-time World Champion Valentino Rossi, it would seem that the focus will never be more, um, focused on the bright red racers.

Plus, let’s not forget about Nicky Hayden, who carries around his own fair share of fans, particularly in the United States, which is surely a crucial market for both Ducati and Mercedes-Benz. As such, it’s not exactly shocking to hear that the German automaker, and more specifically its AMG performance division, has tossed its support and most assuredly a few bucket-loads of cash in the direction of the Bologna-based Ducati MotoGP team.

At this point, it’s too early to know how far the partnership will extend, but the automaker brought along the previously mentioned Kentucky Kid to the 2010 LA Auto Show to announce that it has entered into a marketing partnership with Ducati and will provide support along with serving as the brand’s Official Car Partner starting with the 2011 race season. As such, AMG machines will be available for test drives at selected Ducati events and vice versa.

Chrysler, Volvo announce new recalls

Both Chrysler and Volvo have announced fairly sizeable recalls. Chrysler is bringing a total of 26,397 cars, trucks and vans back to dealers to replace a faulty power steering line the company says could cause an engine fire. The hoses have been found to separate from the crimped end thanks to a change in the type of materials used in the hose’s manufacturing process. The Detroit News reports that as of right now, Chrysler isn’t aware of any accidents or injuries that have arisen as a result of the problem. The recall covers the 2010 Chrysler Sebring and 300 as well as the Dodge Charger, Challenger, Avenger and Journey as well as the 2011 Ram.

Meanwhile, Volvo is recalling 9,746 vehicles due to faulty airbags. Certain 2010-2011 S80, XC60, XC70 and V70 models have been found to have faulty wiring connectors attached to the clock spring in the driver side steering wheel. That fault may cause the vehicle’s airbag to fail to deploy properly. Workers will repair the problem with a metal shim.
