Spy Shots: Watch this Nissan GT-R Nismo attack the ‘Ring

Nissan GT-R Nismo spy video

Following yesterday’s spy photos of the Nissan GT-R Nismo at the Nürburgring, we’ve been informed that some intrepid spies have captured video of Super Godzilla lapping the track. We aren’t sure which turn the first clip is showing, but the second and third are almost certainly the tough right-hander known as Bergwerk.

Like the current GT-R, the Nismo, even with what might be a new exhaust system, isn’t a vehicle that sounds particularly good in a flyby. It’s more of just an intense whooshing noise. Take a look at the full video from RSR Nürburgring down below.

One of the toughest aspects of tornado chasing, besides running headlong into almost certain death, is finding a vehicle that can withstand the violent onslaught of wind and debris generated even by (relatively) weak storms. Over the years, storm chasers have come up with all sorts of solutions to the transportation issue, with everything from beefed-up pickup trucks to balls-to-the-wall armor-plated beasts.

The Tornado Attack Vehicle is the latter, and is credited as being one of the first specialized tornado chasing machines ever created. The truck was commissioned by legendary tornado chaser Steven Green and is the first vehicle to be driven in to the heart of a funnel cloud. Even with heavy modifications, Green knew a road-going pickup truck platform wasn’t going to cut it. To ensure he and his team got through the twister and lived to tell about it, he had the truck built from the ground up.

The skeleton of the monster is a steel tube frame, draped with 16-gauge steel bodywork. The windows and wheel covers are made of bulletproof M10 Lexan plastic, while the windshield sports a triple layer of super-strong DuPont Mylar. According to the listing, one layer of Mylar is enough to stop a .38 caliber pistol round.

All that armor means this thing isn’t what you would call light, so a Chevrolet ZZ502 big block was chosen to send power to front and rear Dana axles through a custom Turbo 400 automatic transmission. That’s an impressive list of specs to be sure, but we’ll stick to doing our tornado watching courtesy of CNN. Check out the full eBay listing here.

Rhys Millen’s Climb Attack Brazil – Click above for to watch video after the jump

Rhys Millen recently teased a video of him sliding up the slopes of Serra do Rio do Rastro, and now the tease has been expanded upon in tropical glory. It’s a three-minutes-and-change blast of sideways slithering and vulcanized clouds for which few words are needed. In fact, the only words in the entire four-minute vid are: “The course is clear.” You’ll find the accompanying smoke and fury after the jump.

Rhys Millen has packed up his passport, many sets of tires, a camera crew and his RMR-prepped Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Destination: Brazil.

More specifically, Millen has taken his 750 horsepower smoke monster to the Serra do Rio do Rastro mountain range. Located in southeastern Brazil and coated in some delectable tarmac, it’s yet another photogenic location for the Genesis Coupe to practice burnt rubber calligraphy.

Of course, this won’t the Millen’s first hill climb. In 2009, he set the Pike’s Peak 2WD Time Attack class record while issues with his PM850 hampered an attempt at true glory in the unlimited class. You can check Rhys and the RMR/Red Bull Hyundai Genesis Coupe running the hills of Brazil after the jump. It’s only a teaser clip, but it does it’s job and will certainly leave you wanting more.

We’ve been guilty of over-ogling a Porsche or two in our time, but we’ve never become obsessed to the point of chasing a 911 up and down the road. But alas, there are some out there who are so star-struck by the sight of a well-crafted German sports coupe that they will resort to following its every move. In fact, we do have video of a pair of crazy turkeys that are virtually glued to just such a Porsche.

And when we say “turkey,” we’re not talking 1970s slang for someone who is “unreliable, makes empty promises, or who is full of bluster.” We’re talking about a pair of delicious, plump and angry wild birds looking to protect their turf at all costs. Hit the jump to watch the oddly funny video. Keep in mind that there are a couple of points where the distracted driver holding the camera forgets to stop recording (especially :50 in to the 1:18 mark), making for a bit of a nauseating viewing experience.

Chris Rado has added another car to Team Need for Speed: an 1,100-horsepower all-wheel drive Scion TC taking aim at the Time Attack series. It’s taken a few years to take the idea from concept to reality, and pictures of the build make it clear why. The zebra-marked tC with gold-plated bulkhead and hood-exit exhaust made its debut last weekend at Road Atlanta, and for some reason – maybe the snowplow? – we wouldn’t be surprised to see it on a mountain in Colorado someday. Jeff Zwart’s Porsche 911 GT3 scales Pikes Peak – Click above to watch video after the jump

We’ve seen footage of Jeff Zwart practicing for his recent run up Pikes Peak, now filmmaker Will Roegge has delivered unto us the footage from Zwart’s Time Attack 2WD class record.

Zwart ran his 911 GT3 up 12.42 miles and through 156 turns in just 11:31.095, averaging over 65 miles per hour. But you don’t need us to tell you about it – these things tend to speak for themselves. Follow the jump to watch a record being set.
