Another day, another new iteration of the Porsche 911. Not that we’re complaining. This time around we got to feast our lucky eyes on the limited-edition 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster while it makes its world debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

The 911 Speedster is designed to pay homage to the original Porsche 356. Combine the French Racing Blue paint job, 408 horsepower flat-six engine and a low run of 356 models, and we expect the 911 Speedster to be sold out by the time you are done looking through the high-res image gallery below.

Toyota debuts Army Green FJ Cruiser Trail Teams edition… in blue

Filed under: SUV, Etc., Marketing/Advertising, Toyota, Off-Road

Toyota FJ Cruiser

Toyota issued a press release recently to discuss the updates to the 2011 FJ Cruiser. The release goes on to highlight the all-new Trail Teams Special Edition FJ, which wears Army Green paint. The photo above was attached to the release and highlights something else: someone at Toyota might be color blind.

Tritanopia, a form of Blue-Yellow colorblindness, can cause some green colors to appear light blue to the affected viewer. We would love to show those of you with standard color vision a photo of the Army Green FJ but we don’t have one available.

For our readers with Tritanopia, check out the sweet new Trail Teams Special Edition FJ shown above.

Everyone, regardless of colors seen, can hop the jump to read about the updates on the 2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser. They include an upgraded standard audio system, improved rearward visibility and a new design for the available 17-inch wheels.

Italy’s equivalent of America’s Blue Angels is called the Frecce Tricolori, or Tricolor Arrows. Otherwise known by its official name, the 313th Gruppo Addestramento Acrobatico, the aerobatic team celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The squad recently brought the smoke and cartwheels with its fleet of Aeromacchi MB-339 jets, while Pagani added a little extra razzle-dazzle by taking its special edition Tricolore Zonda to the Rivolti Air Force base for some fun-and-gun. As usual, there’s beauty everywhere. Follow the jump for the vid.

Homebuilt Steaurus 2000

The Steaurus 2000 – Click above to watch video after the jump

Just a few of the specs: eight batteries, one toaster, one microwave, one DVD player, one VCR, five exterior cameras and a “secondary auxiliary defroster.” Oh, and one really, really funky hat, under which exists one heck of a hair style. Those are the things you’ll find in and around the Stearus 2000, the creation of a real-life Captain H.M. “Howling Mad” Murdock that debuted at this year’s Woodward Dream Cruise. (How in the heck did we miss this one?)

The name is a combination of the words “Steve,” its inventor, and “Taurus,” the car. Steve is from Marine City, Michigan, a town that obviously breeds one-of-a-kind folk. He has almost as many quotable lines as his car has features (one of our favorites: “I also have a hammer”), so do yourself a favor and follow the jump to hear about the Stearus 2000 in his own words.

SSC Ultimate Aero II: Red, white and blue Bugatti killer

SSC Ultimate Aero II – Watch the “unveiling” teaser video after the jump

Shelby Supercars’ Ultimate Aero TT used to be the fastest production car in the world, its 256-mph record speed eclipsing even the mighty Bugatti Veyron. Then, as of a few weeks ago, Bugatti got its act together and topped SSC’s number with the new Veyron Super Sport – to the tune of 267.81 mph.

In August at Monterey, the Ultimate Aero successor, the Ultimate Aero II – penned by new Saab design chief Jason Castriota (he of Bertone Mantide / Ferrari P4/5 fame) – was unveiled in a private ceremony captured on YouTube. It was all a tease; the car was never actually shown in the “unveiling” video, only the attendees’ reaction to it. Suffice it to say, the car was well-received.

And now we know why. Jalopnik has secured a pair of leaked images slated to appear in Top Gear magazine in conjunction with the car’s official launch next week. As you can see, Castriota’s influence is plainly visible in the Ultimate Aero II’s detailing. It’s got an edgier, more assertive appearance than its predecessor, and we can only assume that it has the power to back up its menacing new looks. We can’t wait to get the scoop on September 8 when SSC releases full details.

In the meantime, head over to Jalopnik to see the second leaked photo and follow the jump to watch the teaser video filmed at the Ultimate Aero II’s private Monterey unveiling.

Report: Bill Ford admits Blue Oval may lose investors to GM IPO, seems unconcerned

Bill Ford, executive officer for Ford Motor Co., seems to be taking a fairly realistic stance when it comes to arch-rival General Motors releasing its IPO. While speaking at the kickoff of this weekend’s Woodward Dream Cruise, Ford said that he was certain that some of his company’s investors would likely move to GM, but he isn’t entirely concerned. Even though Ford stock has slid off from its 52-week high of $14.57 recently, the company’s executive officer said that he doesn’t spend his time fretting over stock prices, preferring instead to worry about steering the company in the best direction possible.

This week, GM filed paperwork to issue an IPO, thought to be one of the largest offerings in America’s history. Until then, Ford had enjoyed the privilege of being the only publicly-traded domestic auto manufacturer after both GM and Chrysler filed bankruptcy in 2009. With a new kid on the block, odds are some money is bound to move toward The General and away from FoMoCo.

Monterey 2010: Blue Oval bargains kick off RM auction

Mercury Messenger Concept

RM Ford-Themed Monterey Auction – Click above for high-res image gallery

The Monterey auctions kicked off last night with a special Ford-only sale put on by RM. Despite an offering of significant race cars and a slew of concept cars, bidding was sluggish and many of the final sale prices were well below the pre-auction estimates. Some of the concepts like the 2000 Ford Prodigy Concept and the 2002 Lincoln Coninental Concept Shell sold for just $14,000 each, while many of the high profile cars sold for less than half the estimates. The 2003 Ford Supercharged Thunderbird Concept went for $60,000, the 2004 Lincoln Mark X Concept sold for $92,500, and the 2004 Ford Mustang GT-R Concept went to a bidder who only had to fork over $100,000.

The top sales of the day were actually a pair of Lincolns, one a 1962 Continental “Bubbletop” Kennedy Limousine ($429,000) and the other a 1933 KB Custom Dietrich Convertible Sedan ($385,000). Some most significant cars were no-sales, including a 1903 Ford Model A that is the oldest existing Ford ever sold (high bid of $325,000) and a 1964 Cooper Ford “King Cobra” that didn’t meet the reserve at $450,000.

You can see the Ford concept cars and many of the other vehicles at RM’s Thursday night auction in the gallery below, and be sure to check back for more auction photos and results this weekend.
