Spy Shots: 2015 Lexus GS F is camo-free and frisky

Lexus GS F Spy shots

Other than some missing badges and (hopefully) a not-yet-finished rear fascia, what you see here is an undisguised look at the long-awaited Lexus GS F high-performance sedan. Lexus’ answer to the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, the GS F has been spotted again.

Unlike our previous spy shots, though, this time around, the sporty Lexus has been caught testing on the Nürburgring, so our spy shooters have managed to get a look at the car from all angles. Building on the aggressive styling of the GS F-Sport, the GS F gets bigger air intakes and a lower chin spoiler up front. Like before, we see the signature stacked exhaust outlets, but they still seemed roughed into rear fascia, which gets an aero-aiding diffuser.

We still only have guesses as to what will be under the hood, but a 465-horsepower, 5.0-liter V8 sounds good to us. Expect to see the production GS F on the road by 2015.

BMW 3 Series loses more of its camo

BMW 3 Series spy shots

The next-generation BMW 3 Series has been out stretching its legs before its official debut, and our tactical team of spy photographers was quick to snap a few photos before the vehicle returned to the automaker’s lair. These photos give us a more complete look at the new 3er for the first time as its shed more of the psychedelic-swirl camouflage than in any of its previous outings. We can clearly make out the rear fascia in its entirety and we’ve been given a good glimpse of the vehicle’s LED tail lamps as well. Those rear lights look an awful lot like the hardware found on the newest BMW 5 Series to us.

In addition, this particular mule shows off the vehicle’s new headlights as well. Those rigs look to be rocking the same squared-off LED shape as the latest 6 Series, which means we may see the diodes spread to the rest of the German automaker’s lineup. Check out the full gallery for a closer look.

Mazda CX-5 caught with less camo

Mazda is quickly readying its new CX-5 small crossover, previewed by the shapely Minagi concept that bowed at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The test mule you see here still uses a lot of bits from the larger CX-7, but as more of the camouflage comes off, we can start to see the Mazda’s shapely new front end, inspired not only by the Minagi, but by the automaker’s Shinari design concept from 2010.

When it enters production, the CX-5 will replace the Tribute CUV in Mazda’s lineup. The Tribute is simply a rebadged version of the Ford Escape, and since the Blue Oval is prepping its new Vertrek-based global crossover to replace the Escape (and Kuga overseas), the Tribute will simply go the way of the dodo.

Look for the production version of the CX-5 to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Spy Shots: Lamborghini Murciélago replacement caught wearing only camo

Lamborghini Murcielago replacement spy shots

We won’t necessarily argue with an automaker (especially Lamborghini) unwrapping its new hotness from the inside out. Recently, we received a photo of the Murciélago replacement’s new pushrod suspension – something we were first discovered during our talks with the Lamborghini’s CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Now, our intrepid spy photographers have snapped Lamborghni’s new flagship, tentatively dubbed Aventador, wearing nothing but swirly camouflage over its newly redesigned body.

The new Lamborghini’s gorgeous bodywork takes many of its cues from the Sesto Elemento concept that debuted at the Paris Motor Show last year. Underneath the sexy exterior is the automaker’s new V12 heart of gold, and we should see the finished product in the flesh at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March. In the meantime, continue the striptease for yourself in our high-res gallery below.

Spy Shots: Audi R4 up close and in camo

Filed under: Concept Cars, Spy Photos, Etc., Audi, Design/Style

Audi R4 spy shots

That mysterious Audi coupe we saw in grainy video form is slowly becoming more clear. The above photo shows off some of the styling lines, even though the curly-Q camo is trying hard to hide them. Originally, the internet was abuzz with word that this vehicle could be related to Audi’s all-electric e-tron. Now, however, many are now backing away from that thinking – the large brakes, sporty wheels and shining tailpipes suggest otherwise. This could very likely be an R4 coupe or cabrio prototype basking in the Austrian sun, getting ready for a reverse ski-jump workout and laughing at our attempts to figure out what it is.

Our friends at GermanCarBlog may have a better idea as to exactly what’s going on here. They believe this is not the e-tron, not the R4 coupe or cabrio, but the S5-based Audi Anniversario project. That’s right folks, we may be staring at a long-awaited update to the beloved Ur-Quattro.

What exactly is sitting under the Van Gogh-esque wrap job remains to be seen. In the meantime, our eyes will remain glued to the ‘tubes until we learn more.
