Spy Shots: Porsche Macan caught completely uncovered

Porsche Macan Spy Photo front three-quarter tight

Porsche is preparing to launch its sub-Cayenne CUV, with a suspected debut at the 2013 Los Angeles International Auto Show, which means we’re right about at the point where undisguised models start scampering around the cities and towns of Germany. Our spy photographers snagged just such a model, with only the headlights and taillights concealed by camouflage (no, those comically large lamps aren’t a production item).

The undisguised car looks like a tiny Cayenne. Not really surprising, we know, but it’s impressive to see how the Cayenne’s styling works with the smaller proportions of the Macan. It looks squat, athletic and poised, like it’s a small, “sporty” crossover we’d actually want to drive. Both the Macan and the Macan Turbo are shown, with the more powerful model sporting a set of quad exhausts.

The only big questions now concern the shape of the lights and the interior. From the photos, we can see a rough outline of the headlights, although the taillights are more difficult to discern. The interior remains a mystery.

Thankfully, LA is less than four months away, so we won’t have too long to wait to see a fully uncovered Macan.

2012 Audi A7 Papercraft – Click above to watch the video after the jump

If you need a paper airplane, boat, or hat, we’re your guys. If you’re looking for far more intricate Origami, well… you’re probably going to need an expert like Taras Lesko.

The Origami wunderkind decided to ply his trade in an effort to create the Audi A7 Papercraft, and the results are breathtaking. Lesko used 285 pieces of paper and 750 individual parts to create the blue beauty, and he had cameras rolling to capture the action. Tricky post-editing was used to condense 245 hours of work into less than three minutes. Lesko didn’t just create a four-foot-long body shell with wheels, either – he added a very convincing interior as well. Hit the jump to watch the video.

Ford Territory spotted completely naked and production-ready

Filed under: Spy Photos, Crossover, Ford, Australia

2011 Ford Territory spy shotSure, Ford has a whole slew of crossovers here in the United States, but what we don’t have is a Blue Oval-branded CUV based on rear-wheel drive architecture. For that, you’ll have to travel to Australia or New Zealand (or South Africa or Thailand, exported from Oz), where Ford offers the Territory.

Like all Territory models since its introduction in 2004, the 2011 model will be based on the Falcon that we’re dying for in the States. Fortunately, as we’ve seen in previous spy shots and renderings, the next-gen Territory will feature styling that continues to separate itself from the Taurus X-ish looks of the first-gen model, with a completely new front fascia featuring twin gaping maws with bright horizontal chrome strips.

Two powerplants are expected: the turbo-diesel 2.7-liter V6 that can currently be found in the Land Rover Discovery 3 (a.k.a. LR4) and the well-loved 4.0-liter inline six offered in the Falcon. Thanks for the tip, TriShield!

Video: GT5 physics are completely realistic

Gran Turismo 5 snafu

Gran Turismo 5 pileup – Click above to watch the video after the jump

Gran Turismo 5 has been billed as a hyper-realistic driving simulator. And while it’s almost impossible for Polyphony Digital’s golden egg to live up to six years of hype and hope (we called the game “an incomplete title”), there are plenty of gamers out there who feel the driving dynamics are second-to-none. But no matter how hard the hundreds of GT5 developers tried, perfection and pixels are still miles apart.

For instance, what happens when you’re driving a Nissan GT-R really fast on a banked oval track, and as you begin to ease left, an equally fast Porsche 911 taps you on the driver-side door? In real life, there is a solid chance that you’d lose control and perhaps come to a stop with your wheels pointing skyward. In GT5, you can apparently lose control, land on a Lamborghini Gallardo and still finish the race. Want proof? Hit the jump to watch the replay of one gamer’s hilarious but not-so-realistic experience. At least the Lambo slowed down once it began piggybacking an extra 4,000 pounds.

2011 Triumph Tiger 800 completely leaked

Triumph Tiger 800 and 800 XC

Triumph Tiger 800 XC – Click above for high-res image gallery

Surprise, surprise. An entire high-resolution image gallery of the 2011 Triumph Tiger 800 and 800 XC has found its way online, and everything is exactly as we suspected. The Tiger is also (surprise, surprise) very reminiscent of the BMW F 800 GS, which will be Triumph’s main competition in this particular segment niche.

Triumph’s hopeful ace in the hole will be its trademark triple engine, measuring 800cc in this case. According to leaked documentation, this mill is a stroked version of the much-loved 675cc inline-three used in Triumph’s small-bore sport bikes. Figure around 100 horsepower and a nice, flat torque curve peaking at about 70 pound-feet.

With an expected weight in the 440-pound range, the Tiger’s power-to-weight ratio should crucially be just a bit better than the aforementioned Beemer. Check out our high-res image gallery below.
