The Crew gameplay trailer and walkthrough

It’s easy to get excited about Gran Turismo 6 and Forza Motorsport 5, but the next-generation of video game consoles are showing signs of bringing new twists on the traditional racing simulators to market. Besides the Playstation exclusive game, DriveClub, there’s the multi-platform title The Crew. Developed by a band of UK developers, we covered this game when it first arrived at the E3 conference back in June. Now, with the Gamescom conference in full swing, we’ve gotten another taste of The Crew‘s social focus and how it integrates into the game, along with another taste of vehicle customization.

The video, narrated by Julian Gerighty, the game’s creative director, gives our best look yet at how The Crew differs from traditional racing games. Its strong emphasis on social gaming may be off-putting to some gamers, but we like the idea of a teamwork-oriented racer. Take a look at the whole gameplay trailer from Gamescom below, and let us know what you think in Comments. Is a social racing game going to work?

Top Gear crew makes pit stop, has trouble charging electric cars [w/video]

Jeremy Clarkson gets a push in a Nissan Leaf

Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson gets a push in a Nissan Leaf – Click above to watch the video after the break

It would seem that the guys from Top Gear are back to giving electric vehicles the what-for. According to The Lincolnite, James May and Jeremy Clarkson were respectively spotted piloting a Peugeot iOn and a Nissan Leaf through England during a cross-country trek (which is exactly what electric cars are for, right?).

The duo stopped by Lincolnshire County to ask about the nearest place to charge their alternative-fuel steeds, only to find that the entire municipality is bereft of chargers. Apparently May and Clarkson then set about driving around the city until their vehicles died and they were forced to get a tow.

If this all sounds familiar, that’s because Top Gear rustled up a mess of snakes the last time Clarkson jumped behind the wheel of an EV. After depicting the Tesla Roadster as suffering a brake failure and running out of power, Tesla shot back refuting what happened as pure fiction. That little dust-up has yet to settle.

The truth is that the vast majority of people come to Top Gear to be entertained, and most viewers probably realize that there’s plenty of editing that goes into each segment. We seriously doubt that most EV buyers use the UK show as a go-to resource, but that doesn’t stop the constant ragging on alternative fuels from growing trite.

Check out the video after the break.

Top Gear crew spotted in Albania

Top Gear in Albania

The hosts of Top Gear have grown into veritable celebrities not just in their native UK, but around the world. So good luck showing up in any country without being seen these days, fellas. After spy shots tipped us off to Clarkson, Hammond and May’s presence in Israel a few months ago, we now have visual confirmation that the boys have been to Albania.

The news comes courtesy of Albarent, a local car rental agency that apparently picked up them and their crew at Tirana Airport (Albania’s only internantional airport) and drove them south to Saranda on the “Albanian Riviera” in a rental fleet that reportedly included a Mercedes-Benz S350 and a pair of minibuses made by Hyundai and Fiat’s Irisbus/Iveco.

We can only imagine what sort of shenannigans took place during TG’s time in Albania, but we’ll no doubt see the end result during an upcoming episode of the show. Thanks for the tip, Memli!
