Lamborghini paris motor show teaser #4

We’re only a few short days away from the 2010 Paris Motor Show and of all the automakers teasing their showgoing concepts and debuts, perhaps none have been as elusive as Lamborghini. After releasing three teaser images of its forthcoming Paris reveal, Automobili Lamborghini has just sent out this fourth shadowy image, hinting at what we’ll be seeing in just a couple of days. Enough already.

Originally, we thought Lambo was simply teasing its new Jota supercar – the replacement for the aging Murciélago. However, further reports indicated that Lamborghini would be unveiling two new cars in Paris: the Jota, as well as a mystery car only known internally as “83X.” To add to the confusion, a later report from Auto Guide stated that we wouldn’t be seeing the highly anticipated Jota. Instead, a new technology concept would take the stage, crushing our highest hopes of some supercar hotness.

At this point, we’re crossing our arms and tapping our feet out of impatience. Whatever Lamborghini has in store for the Paris show, we’ll know for certain before the week’s end. Have a look through our gallery below to see all of the Raging Bull teasers.

Infiniti IPL G Convertible Concept to debut in Paris

Infiniti IPL G Convertible Concept

The first Infiniti Performance Line offering was unveiled at Pebble Beach last month in the form of the IPL G37 Coupe. The 348-horsepower G hardtop wears a factory-designed bodykit and came with engine and chassis tweaks to make things slightly firmer and faster. It goes on sale in December.

This week, its droptop brother will arrive at the Paris Motor Show. Infiniti hasn’t announced power output, but we expect the IPL G Convertible Concept will probably be a shade less muscular than the coupe, as is the case with the non-IPL models. The automaker hasn’t given away any hint of pricing, either, but VP Ben Poore did say “IPL promises unique driving attributes from other Infiniti models, without adding stratospheric prices,” if that’s any consolation. Stay tuned for complete details later in the week.

Volvo reveals S60 and V60 R-Design models ahead of Paris debut

Volvo has been so kind as to give us an inkling of what to expect from the company when it arrives at this year’s Paris Motor Show. The Swedish carmaker will display new R-Design versions of both the S60 sedan and the V60 wagon. According to the press release, both cars will receive the usual go-fast treatment, starting with a few aesthetic changes outside. The R-Design cars will wear a more aggressive fascia up front, unique 18-inch alloys, revised sports seats inside and a few suspension tweaks to help everything stay planted through the twisties.

That means firmer bushings all the way around, a strut-tower brace up front and lower, stiffer coils on all four corners. The icing on the cake is a new corner traction control system that uses a torque-vectoring system to make for smoother cornering, a compelling feature that we just tested on the plain-jane S60 T6 all-wheel drive. Don’t look for any extra horsepower under the hood, though. Volvo has left the usual array of engines completely untouched. Both the R-Design S60 and V60 will debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show next month. Hit the jump for the full press release.

Don’t Call It S1: Audi shows off 185-hp A1 ahead of Paris debut

2011 Audi A1 1.4 TFSI

2011 Audi A1 1.4 TFSI – Click above for high-res image gallery

As if we needed another reason to salivate over the delicious little Audi A1. The Four Ring’d One has just announced that it will pull the sheets off of a new, hopped-up version of its tiniest hatch at this year’s Paris Motor Show. Here’s the important part: under the hood, there’s a 185-horsepower dual-charged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 185 lb-ft of torque. That’s right, this machine makes use of both a supercharger and a turbocharger, and as a result, Audi says that its new A1 1.4 TFSI can scoot to 60 mph in a quick 6.9 seconds.

By way of salting the wound even further, Audi says that the meanest of the A1 breed returns around 40 mpg U.S., effectively making the Honda CR-Z look both lethargic and overtly wasteful. A seven-speed DSG gearbox handles shifting duties and likely helps with that massive fuel economy number. Quattro all-wheel drive is still not available, however.

European buyers can expect to see the brawny A1 by the end of this year, where it will carry a price tag of around $31,500 at current conversion rates (though the included EU taxes inflate that figure somewhat). As usual, we won’t see it on our shores. Hit the jump to take a look at the press release and the high-res gallery below if you’re a glutton for punishment.

Saab to debut ePower EV prototype in Paris

Filed under: Wagon, Europe, Technology, Paris Motor Show, Saab, Electric

Saab ePower EV Prototype – Click above for high-res image gallery

Saab is planning to introduce its first real foray into the EV world at this year’s Paris Motor Show. Called the ePower, the long-roof Swede is the prototype for a test fleet of 70 vehicles set to be launched next year. The company is shooting for a range of around 124 miles thanks to a 35.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, though the range figure number is somewhat fluid due to the fact that it will be largely dependent on driving habits. Power is supplied by a 184-horsepower electric motor mated to a single-speed transmission.

With all of that grunt on tap, Saab says the ePower will be able to get to 60 miles per hour in around 8.5 seconds. That’s not exactly slow by anyone’s measure. Top speed is a more than capable 93 mph, too.

The company says that its battery tech should allow the cells to survive up to 10 years of regular charge and discharge cycles, and that the ePower can be fully charged in as little as six hours using a “domestic mains” supply. Don’t worry – we aren’t exactly sure what that means, either. Stay tuned for more information from the Paris Motor Show later this month. For now, click past the jump for a look at the full press release.

Real Gymkhana 3 will debut 9/14, next Tuesday

Ken Block's gymkhana Volk wheels

Ken Block and his crew from DC Shoes didn’t exactly stun the world with Part I of Gymkhana 3. The clip was more music video than sideways action, and after worshipping the first two hoon-laden pieces of cinematic glory, we were all expecting, well, more. Fortunately, it appears that Block has his heart set on delivering. According to Jalopnik, Part II will feature all of the tire and wheel-shredding glory we’ve come to expect from the rally world’s number-one showboat. The team began teasing the next installment with a Craigslist ad hawking a pair of very abused 18-inch Volk wheels. Whatever the next clip entails, we’re nearly guaranteed to see some sparks fly.

The next video is set to drop on September 14, and was supposedly filmed in France using the team’s beastly Ford Fiesta rally beater. Can it top the sheer magic of Gymkhana I? Miracles do happen.

Lamborghini teases new supercar ahead of Paris debut

Lamborghini teaser – Click above for high-res image

Step-by-step unveilings of new car models can be a painfully slow affair, but when it’s something as exciting as a new Lamborghini, chances are that it’ll be worth it in the end.

Following the barely-a-teaser shot released three months ago, this new image just released by the Italian factory gives us a glimpse at a section of what looks like the taillight on what is expected to be the company’s new Murciélago successor. The Murci has served admirably in its range-topper role, having carried on in numerous variants since 2001.

What you’re looking at is the first in a series of six teasers slated to be released by the Bolognese exotic automaker ahead of the car’s expected debut at the upcoming Paris Auto Salon. The rest of the shots will undoubtedly follow in a timely fashion, so stay tuned.

Lotus reveals Evora S and Evora IPS ahead of Paris debut

Not long after Lotus accidentally leaked its plans to unveil two new Evoras at this year’s Paris Motor Show, we now have the full details weeks before the dynamic duo make their public debut. The Evora S and IPS (which stands for “Intelligent Precision Shift” or “automatic transmission” in layman’s terms) will nicely fill out the Evora range, and we’re aching to get our hands on the former.

For the Evora S, Lotus has tweaked the Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6 to produce 345 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque – gains of 69 hp and 37 lb-ft over the standard car. The run from 0-60 happens in just 4.8 seconds and top speed has been raised to 172 miles per hour. What’s more, the Evora S comes standard with a sport button that allows the driver to control the throttle response and activate an exhaust bypass valve. On top of that, pressing the magic switch increases the rev limiter and changes the stability control settings, and we imagine that the end result is more than pulse-quickening.

On the tamer side of things, Lotus is also offering the Evora IPS with its new six-speed automatic transmission, featuring both fully automatic and manual shift modes. The two-pedal Evora uses paddle shifters to control gear selection, and buttons are housed on the center console to switch between the standard PRND drive modes. Power has not been changed for the Evora IPS, and thankfully, Lotus has managed to develop a slushbox that doesn’t add any weight to the Evora. After all, lightness is key.

We anticipate a full raft of high-resolution photos to be released closer to the official Paris show debut, but for now, scroll through the small gallery below and follow the jump to read the official release from Lotus.

Officially Official: 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS revealed before Paris debut

2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS
2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS – Click above for high-res image gallery

It seems like every automaker wants to have a “four-door coupe” in its lineup these days. Hyundai has its rakish new Sonata, Volkswagen has the stylish CC and BMW has reportedly given its Gran Coupe concept the go-ahead for production. This is certainly one of the hottest automotive design trends of recent memory, but we must remember that it all started with the Mercedes-Benz CLS back in 2004. The folks from Stuttgart told us that coupes can have more than two doors (though we’re still not 100 percent behind that idea), and the CLS quickly became one of the most stylish four-door vehicles on the market. Even today, the original CLS bodystyle still looks fresh, modern and sexy.

Recently, we came across some leaked shots of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS, showing the stylish new design that will be unveiled at this year’s Paris Motor Show. Now we have the official images direct from the manufacturer, and this car is even more beautiful in full high-res glory. The new headlight design is quite striking, and the CLS uses a full-LED setup, with a total of 71 bulbs making up the main headlamps, running lamps, turn signals and side lamps. We’re really anxious to see what this looks like in person with the sun below the horizon.

Even today, the original CLS still looks fresh, modern and sexy.

Inside, a new three-spoke sport steering wheel is on hand, and the CLS now uses a column-mounted gear selector similar to that in the higher-end CL and S-Class cars. The rest of the interior mixes luxurious appointments with modern style, and the end result is something that not only looks sporty and elegant, but immensely comfortable and cozy.

We don’t have official word about powertrains, but expect the CLS to be offered with two different gas engines when it goes on sale in North America in mid-2011. An all-new direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 is anticipated to be the base engine in the CLS350, while CLS550 models will reportedly receive a twin-turbo 4.6-liter V8 good for around 430 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Of course, a CLS AMG will come shortly thereafter, packing lordly amounts of power.

We’ll have the official specs closer to the car’s scheduled unveiling in Paris, but for now, you can read what Mercedes-Benz has to say about the CLS in the press release after the jump and scroll through the gallery below for a few high-res shots of the svelte new Benz.

We may have gotten our first glimpse of the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 at this year’s festivities in Monterey, but the Blue Oval folks quickly hot-footed the new ‘Stang back home to Detroit for a showing at this year’s Woodward Dream Cruise.

It may be raining at this year’s Dream Cruise, but the Boss still looks like its ready to devour some pavement. It’s certainly built to handle that task, what with a 440-horsepower version of Ford’s 5.0-liter V8 under the hood. In both standard spec and special edition Laguna Seca trim, we’re big fans of the Boss treatment, and it’s certainly causing quite a stir here in gloomy metro Detroit.

Click through the gallery below to see high-res shots of a few different Boss Mustangs live from Woodward Avenue, and check out the dream cruise for yourself by visiting our livestream.
