While keeping a fire extinguisher in your house or garage is never a bad idea, what do you do if things get a little too hot for your consumer-spec extinguisher to handle? Perhaps you might consider keeping this little gem in the garage as a backup. You’re looking at a 1960 Nash Metropolitan that has been converted into a fire truck.

Well, sort of. This machine was never actually meant to battle flames. Instead, the car was converted into an amusement park attraction by Overland Amusements of Lexington, Massachusetts. According to Hemmings, the company was responsible for all sorts of similar conversions in the ’50s and ’60s, though it tended to favor Crosley models for its fire trucks.

So, maybe you want to hang onto that kitchen fire extinguisher after all. There’s no indication that this Nash would be any help in an inferno, but it’s cool enough that we’re willing to give it a pass in the functionality department. If you like what you see, the seller is asking $29,500 for the pleasure of ownership. Head over to Hemmings to check out the listing.

2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI convertible: Worst idea ever?

Car dealers do the strangest things to their vehicles. Just think about how many cars are out there with awful vinyl and fabric roof add-ons, a generation after manufacturers nearly swore them off entirely. Manchester Subaru in Manchester, New Hampshire isn’t content to create some sticker-and-tape fake trim level on a top-dog 2011 Subaru WRX STI. Instead, the dealer has gone all Chainsaw Massacre on the rally-bred performance sedan. The result is a picnic basket of automotive woe.

At least the “handle” left after all the chop-shopping maintains a fleeting semblance of rigidity. The rest? Awful. There’s an ill-fitting tonneau, chopped door pillars and the STI’s trademark enormous wing still hangs off the trunklid. The worst part? This poor Subaru’s price is purportedly $75,000. Not kidding. Sure, there’s an “exclusivity” factor, but 75 large buys an awful lot of real high performance convertible; the kind that won’t corner like an overcooked noodle. The dealership reportedly commissioned five of these abominations, which is likely five more than anyone wants. Thanks for the tip, Jason!

Video: Worst go-kart pileup ever?

When go-karts attack – Click above to watch the video

Ever see those Tour de France crashes that start with one guy in Spandex shorts face-planting into the cement and ends up with 30 or 40 cyclists cascading like dominoes? It’s a horrific site to be sure; one that gets replayed dozens of times on sportscasts the world over. These chain-reaction crashes happen in motorsports, but the pileups aren’t usually as robust. Or are they?

Beyond the jump is video of one go-karter who sideswipes a barrier, which sets off a wet track karting collision extraordinaire. The video is only 17 seconds long, but we guarantee that this Monaco affair contains all the carnage action you’ll need to see to feel better about your day. And while the go-karts look like they’re moving pretty darn fast, it doesn’t appear as though anyone was hurt. Hit the jump to watch 52-kart pickup.

Video: Sternest speeding warning ever?

Filed under: Etc., Government/Legal, Videos, Humor

Policeman delivers stern speeder warning on video

A policeman gives speeders a lesson in penal system – Click above to watch video after the jump

When a police officer stops you for speeding, even if they give you a ticket, they will often try to provide some sort of additional deterrent to keep you from lead-footing it again. This could be anything from mentioning the safety of other drivers to something a little sterner, like the unhinged tirade lecture this policeman gave a German tourist who was caught driving 98 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone.

And hey, it might have been a bit much, but it’s not entirely false, either. And besides, despite blowing clean through the speed limit, the driver with the hidden camera didn’t get a ticket (we’re guessing the unidentified officer didn’t want the paperwork headache that invariably accompanies international citations). Follow the jump to get schooled (*Warning: Language may be Not Safe For Work).
