Ferrari Town

Ferrari Town – Click above to view video after the jump

Welcome to the Netherlands, where the houses are all perfect – almost to a Truman Show level of creepiness – and everyone, without exception, drives a Ferrari. Most people seem to own at least two. At least, that’s what the Netherlands looks like when a Ferrari club rents a bunch of vacation bungalows for a group gathering.

The video shows a solid collection of 575s, California Spiders, 430s and 599s, with some 308s and a Boxer thrown in for good measure. Imagine the glorious sound that erupts in the morning when everyone leaves… Hit the jump for a walkthrough of the fantasyland.

Porsche planning Ferrari 458 challenger?

Porsche 911

Porsche would like to double its current sales volume, and to do that, the automaker will need to expand its lineup. The Cajun crossover and 918 are still a year or three away, and we’re always hearing talk of a sub-Boxster roadster or even a baby Panamera being in the cards. But what about a new coupe to take on Maranello’s finest?

Autocar claims that such a supercar could be on the way, and it would go toe-to-toe with the Ferrari 458 Italia. The British mag reports that Porsche boss Mathias Muller would like the company to produce another mid-engine offering, adding “we’re thinking above the 911 but below the 918 Spyder.” Muller also says that Porsche already has some designs that still need further development, and that a business case still needs to be made.

If such a Porsche were to find its way to production, it would need plenty of lightweight materials. And since Audi now shares a family tree with Porsche, the new supercar could share the R8’s aluminum space frame chassis. If that doesn’t work, a heavily-modified (and larger) 911 platform would probably do the trick, too.

At any rate, such a super-Porsche appears to be a long way from a production green light, much less a showroom floor. Still, it’s nice to dream, and we don’t mind waking up to a world with one more Porsche from which to choose.

Ferrari FF Crash

Ferrari FF crash – Click above to watch video after the jump

This is why we can’t have nice things, CAR Magazine. Ferrari recently hosted a passel of journalists from around the globe in Italy to fully introduce the company’s new FF to the world. You know, the sexy-as-sin shooting brake with a European price tag of £230,000? Yeah, that Ferrari FF.

Jethro Bovingdon showed up to represent the CAR crowd, but ran into a bit of trouble while trying to work up a video monologue and pilot the obscenely expensive Italian supercar through some narrow country roadwork at the same time.

Shortly after announcing that he intended to demonstrate “just how committed to the throttle you can be on a very twisty narrow road that shouldn’t suit this car,” Bovingdon managed to bash the FF off of a curb. According to CAR, the damage was limited to both wheels on the passenger side. We’re guessing the repairs likely cost more than the tester’s fancy sunglasses, but not by much.

Hit the jump to check out the in-cabin video of the incident for yourself. Thanks for the tip, Throwback!

Ferrari FF, behind the scenes – Click above to watch the videos after the jump

Typically when an automaker rolls out a new vehicle, it fits into a certain mold. Even if it isn’t replacing a specific model, it generally follows a certain formula by which the automaker operates. Especially for an automaker like Ferrari, which only makes – and only has ever made – two-door, rear-wheel drive coupes and convertibles. That was the case, at least, until the new FF came along.

The FF represents a complete game-changer for Maranello – an entirely new model with a new engine, new body-style and new four-wheel drive system never before seen in a Ferrari. And to drive that point home, the Prancing Horse marque has released yet another set of videos: one documenting the new technology in the car, another the flexible cabin configurations and a third going behind the scenes in the production of the previous videos released. Follow the jump to watch for yourself.

Ferrari 458 Italia versus Shelby Cobra with $400K on the line – Click above to watch video after the jump

Take a moment and pretend you’re a wealthy man or woman. (If you’re already wealthy, take a moment to enjoy the warm green glow from your money… otherwise, time to get back to pretending.) Would you rather spend your money on a modern Italian sportscar or a classic American muscle car?

Let’s say you pick one and your wealthy friend picks the other… you’d probably want to take both to the track and see who bought the faster machine, right? That’s just what the two folks in the following video do with a Ferrari 458 Italia and Shelby Cobra.

Not content with a basic Gentleman’s Bet, the duo decide to put serious cash on the line. The winner of the race gets $400,000. The clip, which you can see after the jump, is just a teaser, but the full video is promised soon. Which car is going to make that quarter-mile trip in less time and have its owner walk away $400,000 richer, the Cobra or the Ferrari? Sound off in the comments.

Risi Competizione struts its new Ferrari 458 GTC

While competing for top honors in Formula One, Ferrari has left the top tiers of Le Mans racing up to the competition. But down in the GT2 class, the Prancing Horse marque has had considerable success. And much of that success has been had at the hands of Risi Competizione. The Houston-based team has taken innumerable class victories in both the American Le Mans Series and in the 24 Hours itself, these last few years with the F430 GT2. But now that it’s got its hands on the new racing-spec 458 Italia, all bets are off.

As with the rest of the new crop of challengers – like the new Honda ARX-01e, for example – Risi will be fielding the new 458 GTC this weekend at Sebring. But before the Floridian endurance race kicks off, taking with it the start of the new season, Ferrari and Risi have had a bit of development work to do. Fortunately they brought a photographer along with them, and you can check out the results in the gallery below.

Video: Ferrari FF gets ski-mountain delivery via Chinook helicopter

2012 Ferrari FF helicopter delivery

2012 Ferrari FF delivery – Click above to watch the video after the jump

To give journalists their first close-up look at the 2012 Ferrari FF, Maranello has chosen Plan de Corones, a ski resort in the Italian Alps accessible only by ski lifts, as the venue. Why not a racetrack? Credit the car’s all-wheel-drive architecture and its main purpose as a grand tourer, not a sports car.

To get the FF media cars to the resort, Ferrari called upon the Italian Air Force to haul them up there using CH-47 Chinook and Augusta 205 cargo helicopters. This has to rank among the most badass ways a car has ever been delivered. The choppers were from the Italian Air Force’s Viterbo 1st Regiment Antares and 4th Regiment Altair, stationed in Bolzano. Hit the jump to watch the special delivery.

Video: Ferrari F430 Scuderia turned into rolling canvas by artist Laurence Gartel

Laurence Gartel Ferrari 430 Scuderia

Laurence Gartel Ferrari 430 Scuderia – Click above to watch video after the jump

Laurence Gartel has been involved with digital media since the early ’70s, beginning his artistic exploration of computers on analog machines long before anyone else. This guy has been at it so long he taught Andy Warhol how to create digital media.

For the last few years, Gartel has been looking at supercars as a vehicle, so to speak, for his works. Gartel holds nothing sacred when it comes to Ferraris (or Tesla Roadsters, etc…), arguing that art can make just about anything more meaningful.

His latest creation follows that ethos to a T. It’s a Ferrari 430 Scuderia that Gartel ‘enhanced’ with a pyschedelic vinyl he designed on a computer. Gartel’s people claim Gartel’s work pushes the value of the Scud near $1 million. Your definition of value may vary… In any case, check out the video, along with the press release, after the break.

Shayton Equilibrium: Would-be supercar one part Ferrari, one part Lotus

Shayton Equilibrium

Shayton Equilibrium – Click above for high-res image gallery

The Shayton Equilibrium looks like it could be a whole barrel of fun. Or rather, it might be – if only it existed. For now, the Shayton remains a digital rendering only, but the Slovenian company is apparently toiling away at making the design a reality.

The Shayton packs a 1,000-plus-horsepower V12 amidships, and, Shayton says it will nail down 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds, on the way to topping out at 248 mph. Couple that with carbon fiber bodywork equaling just 2,600 pounds, and you have a true hypercar recipe.

The design is a little bit Ferrari Enzo, a little bit Lotus Esprit, and maybe even a little Marussia B2, but looks to spank all three of them on a track. To do that, the 20 or so Shayton plans to build will need to exist, and so far there’s no notion of when that might be.
