Dirt Modified crash and fire video

Dirt Modified racer Mike Stofflet was running in a pre-feature heat at the Mahoning Valley Speedway in Pennsylvania, when things went quite wrong. It’s difficult to tell what happened exactly, but we’re guessing he made contact with another car, which sent him skittering up the track with his vehicle tipped on its side.

While that might be scary in and of itself, the part that had us cringing was the stream of fluid that wound its way down from the top of the screen – gasoline. It didn’t take much after flipping Stofflet’s car over for the gas to ignite, leaving the 27-year-old strapped into the flaming racer.

Miraculously, not only did he get out of the burning car uninjured, but after some pit-lane repairs, he was back out for the feature race, finishing fifth. Check out the scary footage below.

The boys and girls at Cadillac have taken their newest toy out to play. The CTS-V Coupe race car got its first sampling of track time at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida earlier this week. Drivers Johnny O’Connell and Andy Pilgrim took time behind the tiller for the car’s first real shake down as the car and team prep for the first race of the Sports Car Club of America World Challenge GT. The series kicks off in St. Petersburg, Florida from March 25 to 27.

As you may recall, it’s been a good long while since the Crest last suited up to go fender-to-fender. The company last competed in the World Challenge GT series in 2007. At that time, Cadillac had campaigned a CTS-V sedan for three seasons. General Motors is hoping that taking to the track once again will help establish the CTS-V Coupe as a legitimate performance competitor capable of taking on the best that Germany has to offer. Hit the jump for the full press blast.

Aston Martin finishes year with trio of DB9 specials

Aston Martin DB9 Carbon Black and Morning Frost editions – Click above for high-res image gallery

It doesn’t take much to crank out a new special edition every once in a while, but Aston Martin has proven itself particularly adept at it. Over the course of the 2010 calendar year, the British automaker has offered up the V12 Vantage and DBS Carbon Black, V8 Vantage N420 and DBS UB2010 (commemorating Dr. Ulrich Bez’s ten years at the head of the company). But before the year draws to a close, Gaydon has not one, not two, but three new special editions.

The latest special Astons are based on the DB9 – packing the usual 470-hp 6.0-liter V12 mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox – and are available around the world in either coupe or Volante convertible body-styles. All three feature unique paint jobs, special 19-inch wheels, piano black veneers in the cabin and custom door-sill plates announcing the edition’s name.

The DB9 Morning Frost differentiates itself with pearlescent white paint, silver brake calipers, and metallic bronze leather interior, while the DB9 Carbon Black (like the Vantage and DBS editions of the same) and the Quantum Silver editions – the former in black and the latter in the same shade of silver portrayed in the latest Bond movies – also get a sports exhaust, leather roof lining and glass switchgear. You can read more about ’em in the press release after the jump, accompanied by the high-resolution images in the gallery below.

Rhys Millen’s Climb Attack Brazil – Click above for to watch video after the jump

Rhys Millen recently teased a video of him sliding up the slopes of Serra do Rio do Rastro, and now the tease has been expanded upon in tropical glory. It’s a three-minutes-and-change blast of sideways slithering and vulcanized clouds for which few words are needed. In fact, the only words in the entire four-minute vid are: “The course is clear.” You’ll find the accompanying smoke and fury after the jump.
