Report: 2014 Chevy SS order guide surfaces

Filed under: Car Buying, Sedan, Performance, Chevrolet

Aside from what it’s like to drive the 2014 Chevrolet SS, there is really nothing we don’t already know about the new performance sedan, a fact confirmed when the order guide for the car popped up in our email. SSForums.com has managed to get its hands on the anticlimactic order guide for the rear-wheel drive Chevrolet showing all of the standard features and the few options that will be offered.

We already knew that the only options on the car will consist of your choice of five exterior colors, a $900 sunroof and a $500 spare tire option that replaces the tire inflation kit, and the rest of the order guide matches up with what Chevrolet already told us about the SS. Even so, this is an exciting car, and as we wait for the SS to go on sale (sometime during the fourth quarter of this year), fans – and potential owners – of this full-size performer should enjoy perusing the leaked order guide to aid in their daydreaming – or their ordering.

A Semi-Authorized Guide to BMW Innovation

Filed under: Hybrid, Performance, Technology, BMW, Electric, Diesel, Luxury

Automakers are always hot to tout their latest advancements, and BMW is no different. This past week in Munich, the automaker hosted Autoblog at its 2011 Innovation Day to give us a glimpse into what BMW’s boffins are up to and what drivetrains, components and technologies it’s planning to bring to market. BMW continues to champion its Efficient Dynamics mantra, comprised of lightweight materials, hybrid and turbocharged drivetrains and a new modular engine platform that takes the tried-and-true cylinder expansion idea to its logical extreme. So what did we learn? Plenty. And some of it wasn’t exactly authorized.

2012 Nissan GT-R order guide leaked

2012 Egoist Nissan GT-R pink interiorWe’ve got good news for you if you want the skinny on exactly how the 2012 Nissan GT-R will be available when it arrives. The crew over at 2009GTR.com have sourced up the ordering guide for the next Nissan supercar from the North American GT-R Owners Club, and it looks like buyers will be able to pick from a total of six colors. Of those, it’s unclear exactly how man that the company will only charge extra for at the moment. Right now 2009GTR.com seems to think that Super Silver will be the only cost-adding hue, though the forums are rife with speculation otherwise. The 2012 GT-R will be available in just two packages, including Premium, which will fetch $89,950 excluding destination and Black, which is expected to land around $95,100.

Options include floor mats, a cold-weather package and a rear view camera, though at this point it’s unclear how much Nissan will want for those niceties. One of the most curious additions comes from the car’s homeland. Japanese buyers will be able to opt for an Egoist package for the interior that drapes the cabin in red and pink leather as seen above. Let’s just say we won’t be missing that one in the States. More demure owners can go for grey and red hide.

To each their own, we suppose. There are also a heap of photos of a new JDM-only Club Track Edition, though details are scarce at the moment. Judging from the photos, that machine is a full-on track heathen with a gutted interior, unique dampers, a roll cage and a driver controllable rear differential cooler. Tasty. Sadly, it looks like that particular car isn’t headed stateside anytime soon, either.

Head over to 2009GTR.com to have a look at the full order sheet.

Lamborghini LP700-4 order guide promises 690 hp, 0-62 in 2.9 seconds

We’ve heard plenty of speculation about Lamborghini’s upcoming Murciélago replacement, the LP700-4, and now a leaked dealer order guide gives us a glimpse of exactly what we can expect from the new flagship Raging Bull.

The LP700-4 (or Aventador, or Jota, as it’s been known) is powered by a 6.5-liter V12 with 690 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque on tap, routed to the ground via all-wheel drive. Lamborghini’s new seven-speed independent shifting rod (ISR, read about it here) transmission is fitted to the new supercar, and the automaker is claiming super-quick shift times of just 50 milliseconds. That, combined with a dry weight of only 3,472 pounds, means that the LP700-4 will sprint to 62 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds. That, friends, is fast.

In the leaked dealer order guide, which you can see for yourself in our high-res image gallery, Lamborghini details out the whole host of standard and optional equipment for the new LP700-4. New colors like Grigio Estoque and Arancio Argos are available for the exterior, and many different color choices can be had for the Sportivo interior, with or without Alcantara. Of course, high-tech goodies like sat-nav, iPod and USB connectivity and Bluetooth are standard fare, not to mention a giant heaping of street cred.

Video PSA: The Aussie female guide voice on your Garmin is as attractive as you’ve always hoped

Karen Jacobsen, GPS voiceover artist – Click above to watch video after the jump

There may come a day when personal GPS devices go the way of the dodo. As direction services on our handheld devices become ever savvier, more and more consumers are ditching their old dashboard-mounted screens in favor of the ones they already keep in their pocket. Fortunately, even if our Garmin or TomTom devices become relics, odds are we’ll still be able to get turn-by-turn directions on our smartphones. That’s a good thing, too, because otherwise a whole generation of lost motorists would never be able to find their way while listening to Karen Jacobsen call out directions.

Who is Karen Jacobsen? While she happens to be a Queensland native who now spends her days writing music and playing in a three piece band, she’s also the most popular GPS voice on the planet. Jacobsen spent a total of 50 hours in a recording studio rattling off everything from directional phrases to single words, locations and every letter in the alphabet so that we would have the pleasure of listening to her Aussie accent as we bumble down the highway. Hit the jump to see an interview with the muse of maps as well as a sample of her singing.
