Toyota Tacoma commercials

It takes a lot to get a product noticed in today’s fast-paced world, but one avenue that’s always seemed to grab the eyeballs of consumers has been humor. Toyota knows this rule well, and has put together a quartet of spots called “Tacoma Wins,” in which the midsize pickup’s features and specifications best a number of seemingly worthy competitors.

Whether it be sobbing girlfriends, a circus magician, a grim reaper or the scariest thing of all, a mime, the Tacoma looks well equipped to deal with it. Take a look below for all four of Toyota’s newest spots.

Official: Lucra 2.2 helps define long hood, short deck

Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Design/Style, MISC

Lucra 2.2 - front three-quarter studio view

If not for Fast & Furious 6, most of us would have probably never heard of Lucra Cars or its incredibly powerful and lightweight LC470. While that car had a simplistic retro design, Lucra’s upcoming car, codenamed 2.2, is bringing more modern style to the boutique, California-based car builder.

Aside from a few pictures posted on its Facebook page over the last month, Lucra has released little information on the long, sleek roadster except to confirm that the car would be offered with the M156 Mercedes AMG 6.2-liter V8. In terms of its design, this car looks something like a modern interpretation of the Bill Thomas Cheetah with its long hood and set-back cabin, but the front end is very distinctive with flared fenders that C3 Chevrolet Corvette lovers should appreciate. We’ll let you know as more details emerge on this car, but until then, enjoy the handful of images posted in the gallery above.

1965 Pontiac GTO does donuts

We love ourselves some vintage muscle cars, and none more so than the one that started it all: the Pontiac GTO. It’s 389-cubic-inch V8 engine burbling underhood, its paper-thin bias-ply tires at all four corners and its complete lack of any kind of safety equipment mean the old Goat is nothing if not a hoon’s dream car.

But what does it have to do with boxers? Beats us. Whether you’re talking about the kind you wear under your jeans (in this case from Camouflage) or the kind that licks you in the face, we’re completely baffled as to why the donut-performing muscle car is being used to advertise boxers.

Oh well. The Pontiac GTO (1965 vintage, in this case) is always welcome on these pages, and boxer puppies are adorable. You’ll find both of them in the video after the break. Enjoy! Thanks for the tip, Diland!

Extraction Zone app helps first responders safely cut through modern cars

Extraction Zone

The more safety features and technology gets crammed into modern cars, the harder it gets for first responders to cut through them safely. Cutting someone out of a car is hard enough without having to worry about inadvertently triggering an airbag or hitting a power supply.

To solve that problem, the Extraction Zone mobile app includes maps of the vital systems of popular cars, like the Honda Civic Hybrid, to help EMTs and fire departments find a safe area to cut through. The app highlights structural supports, airbags, and power and propulsion systems to give rescuers an idea where to cut safely. There’s even a night mode to make the app more visible in low-light situations.

Video: 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT looks like a Ferrari, helps you steal your neighbor’s wife

1987 Pontiac Fiero GT gets girls, confounds 80’s bullies – Click above to watch video after the jump

The Pontiac Fiero was produced from 1984 through 1988 and the “fired-up” GT version was introduced in 1985. Just one year before the car’s demise, Pontiac slightly updated the Fiero front and rear, greatly improving its appearance to most late-’80s buyers in the process.

A video sales aid was produced to help dealers learn more about the Pontiac Fiero GT and the clip is pure, uncut 1987 packed into 6 minutes and 38 seconds. We won’t spoil the entire clip but it features a nerdy Fiero owner, an 80’s tough guy neighbor and that tough guy’s jean-jacketed significant other.

“Just like a Ferrari? Pretty close.”

Put on your acid wash jeans then click past the jump and take a trip back to a time when people confused Pontiacs for Ferraris. Poor guy in the Mazda RX-7 just didn’t stand a chance… And now you know why hunting down dealer training materials is one of our favorite guilty pleasures.

Detroit 2011: Mopar helps the Fiat 500 man up

Filed under: Aftermarket, Detroit Auto Show, Fiat

2011 Fiat 500 Mopar Edition – Click above for high-res image gallery

The Fiat 500 is one attractive little hatchback, but its voluptuous curves and diminutive size lend some to believe the little Italian is aimed squarely at the female demographic. We’re not so inclined to agree, especially if the 500 proves to be as fun to drive as its primary competition, but a little aesthetic tuning never hurt.

The experts at Mopar took a page from the Mini playbook with a slew of mods that could make it more attractive to the coveted 18-25 male demographic. The tweaks start on the outside with a bevy of chrome accents including side mirrors, a snazzy exhaust tip, chrome door handles and a very cherry 500-emblazoned fuel door. Out back you can’t miss the massive snowboard carrier, and the high-gloss black wheels don’t do much to avert attention either. The front end stands out with a pair of offset blue stripes that stretch all the way to the boot. Step inside and you’re greeted with 500-embossed seats and door-sills guards. Check out all the mods in the gallery below.

2011 Nissan Quest minivan helps find the strip club after dropping off the kids

Filed under: Minivan/Van, Etc., Technology, Nissan, Humor

2011 Nissan Quest navigation menu

The 2011 model year represents an all-new generation of the Nissan Quest. It’s a stylish people hauler that should spice up the competition among industry heavyweights like the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, and Chrysler Town & Country.

It may also be popular with entertainment-seeking grown-ups. We’re not talking about concerts or sporting events, but rather the type of windowless entertainment facilities that require a trip to the ATM beforehand… and then another trip a few songs later. Yes, as you see above, an “Adult Entertainment” category is part of the Quest navigation system’s POI database. This functionality may, in fact, be included in other Nissan and/or Infiniti products – or GPS systems from other automakers – but this is the first time we’ve seen it anywhere.

In any case, this proves that the 2011 Nissan Quest isn’t just a capable kid-hauler – it’s equally qualified for bachelor party duty. Thanks for the tip, Keith!
