Legendary London icon Ace Cafe heads to the States

Ace Cafe LondonIf you have even a passing interest in the world of two-wheeled transportation, you likely already know all about Ace Cafe. The place started as a roadside diner, but quickly evolved into a haven for young London bike nuts after World War II. As a result, the name is now synonymous with the café racer phenomenon. Mark Wilsmore took the reins at Ace in 1993 and completely restored the structure in 2001. Now, the little diner serves as a hub for thousands of riders from around the world every day.

Today, Ace Cafe is planning to open outlets here in The Land Of The Free. A total of ten locations are set to spring up across the country soon, and to mark the occasion, Dime City Cycles is throwing a grand-opening celebration in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, May 14.

We typically recoil from the commercialization of something as unique and special as the Ace Cafe, but if anyone can do this and do it right, it’s Wilsmore. The man knows a thing or two about putting together a custom bikers, which leads us to believe the new Aces may actually be a place real riders want to spend time instead of a glorified t-shirt stand. Hit the jump for the full press release.

Icon Motorsports, a DeLorean and the Rose City Rollers

Icon Motorsports and the Rose City Rollers – Click above to watch video after the jump

The kids at Icon Motorsports are hitting this whole viral marketing thing square on the money these days. The bike apparel company has just turned out a new video to hawk its wares, and the clip features a trifecta of awesome that the world isn’t likely to see again anytime soon. The clip enlists the help of the Rose City Rollers – some of the meanest ladies in roller derby – and includes appearances from one of the most iconic vehicles to ever cruise out of Northern Ireland. That’s right, the DeLorean DMC-12.

The final piece of this amazing pie comes in the form of two Brammo Enertia tow bikes. We fully support the idea of adding a little speed to the whole roller derby throw-down, and what better way to do it than to use the full might of a couple electric motorcycles? Hit the jump to take a look at the full clip for yourself, just be warned that it may not be entirely safe for work depending on how strict your overlords are.

Alfa Romeo centenary celebration at Concorso

2010 Concorso Italiano celebrates Alfa Romeo centenery – Click above for high-res image gallery

The year 2010 marks the 100th birthday of Alfa Romeo, the great Italian automaker that has given us some of the most lust-worthy road and race cars of, well, the last century. It was fitting, therefore, that Concorso Italiano celebrated the occasion with gusto. They even let the Alfas spell out the annual message to the heavens: a simple “100.” It would have been interesting to see them try to use 100 cars to do so; goodness knows there were at least that many Alfas on hand.

Check out the gallery and you’ll see a small sampling of the great variety of Alfas on display. As much as we like the new 8C Competizione, we have to say our favorite Alfa Romeo at Concorso was probably John Shirley’s 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B. Just take a look at that rear!
