Panzani Design goes all Deathstar with Jaguar S-Type Vintage GT

For better or worse, nothing is quite as divisive as modern Jaguar design. The current XF is controversial enough in its own right, but the S-Type that came before was even more so. With its pinched grille and comically retro lines, the S-Type was the very antithesis of the model that followed. So how about making the old girl even more of a love-it or hate-it affair? Not an easy task, but Panzani Design has clearly risen to the challenge.

Reaching back a few years to when the S-Type was still around, the Italian tuner has given the retro Jag saloon such up-to-date features as 20-inch wheels mounted on a track widened by 10 centimeters and enormously flared arches to accommodate them. There’s also a new front bumper with integrated LEDs, a carbon fiber hood with vents, mesh lamp covers, side skirts, spoiler, diffuser, little round mirrors and what looks to be a very intricately crafted interior.

The result is all decked out in matte gray and called the Vintage GT. It may not be your cup of tea, but it’s worth a second glance, so check it out in the gallery below for all the angles.

Bertone shows off Jaguar B99 design sketches, still won’t be built

Bertone Jaguar B99 Concept

Jaguar already made it clear that it’s not interested in bringing the Bertone B99 Concept to life, but that hasn’t stopped Bertone from unleashing a barrage of images and details related to its mid-sized concept. The firm says that the B99 sports a wheelbase of around 9.1 feet, and that the bodywork would be all hand-formed aluminum. Something tells us that little detail would get the boot if the B99 ever made it to the production line.

According to CarBodyDesign, Bertone specifically wanted to abandon the typical wedge shape predominate among sports sedans in favor of a three-volume look that places the headlights and the taillights on the same plane.

While the interior features an assortment of high-tech goodies, Bertone says that buyers could expect to find an extended-range hybrid system under the hood, complete with twin electric motors and a range-extending internal combustion engine good for a combined 570 horsepower.

Of course, Jaguar would first have to greenlight the project, which doesn’t look to be happening. Ever.

2011 Jaguar XKR-S promo video

2011 Jaguar XKR-S – Click above to watch the video after the jump

Jaguar had us at 543 supercharged horsepower and 4.2 seconds to 60 miles per hour. Now, they’ve released this HD teaser video of the 2011 Jaguar XKR-S in action, and we’re more than smitten. Putting the bulging fenders, front and rear spoilers and grimacing vents of the XKR-S in action under glorious lighting is bordering on cruel.

Couple that with a fittingly European soundtrack augmented by the Jag’s gruesome rasp, and you have a recipe to make us weak in the knees. If you’re of the means and you react the same way we did to this video, save your pennies. The XKR-S goes on sale this summer. Check your pulse after watching the video after the break.

Jaguar B99 Concept by Bertone unveiled in Geneva

Italian design studio Bertone came to the 2011 Geneva Motor Show with the B99 concept, a design study for a prospective Jaguar rival to the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The sleek show car fostered rumors that perhaps Jaguar itself, which has been considering a successor to the discontinued X-Type, had commissioned Bertone to design the purple machine that graced the Geneva stage. According to new reports, however, Bertone was apparently on its own with this one.

Speaking with Jaguar’s global brand director Adrian Hallmark, Automotive News reports that the British automaker is passing on the concept car. “We appreciate the fact that Jaguar is interesting enough for people to do a concept around,” says Hallmark. “It is just not for us.”

Reimagined Jaguar E-Type to enter very limited production

2011 Growler E concept

Swedish design firm Visualtech has confirmed it will build a very limited run of production cars based on its Growler E, a reimagining of the Jaguar E-Type. According to the company, plans are to have the first Growler ready for delivery in the summer of 2012.

Speaking of plans, the current goal is to produce three or four of the cars to be finished simultaneously. If there’s overwhelming demand, Visualtech may decided to build a very short series run of the cars, with help from Steyr or Finnish firm Valmet.

The car is to be powered by a Jaguar XKR-sourced 5.0-liter supercharged V8. With a few choice tweaks, the Growler should close in on the 600-horsepower mark. Visualtech hopes that will lead to a 0-60 run under 4 seconds.

The Growler will have a composite body glued to a carbon fiber structure, with front and rear tube frames holding the running gear. Should you have the wherewithal to order a Growler, expect to pay nearly $700,000 if they make a series run, and closer to $1.4 million if they only make a few.

Swedish designer reinvents the Jaguar E-Type

The Jaguar E-Type turns 50 this year, and we continue to pine for its classic lines to this day. Bo Zolland, a car designer from Sweden, is clearly also a fan of the iconic E-Type shape. Unlike most of us, though, he has the tools and skill to generate a vision of what the E-Type might look like were it to come back to life in the 21st century.

Zolland calls his rendered Jaguar homage the Growler E 2011 Concept, and it clearly takes design cues from the original version. We also spy some 240Z and Chevrolet Corvette, though you could just as easily say those cars learned their lines from the E-Type.

Fittingly, the Growler would be built atop the guts of a Jaguar XKR, which would also donate its 5.0-liter V8 engine (tuned to produce 600 horsepower). Check out Bo Zolland’s Growler E 2011 Concept in the gallery below. Sound off with your thoughts on his design in the comments.

Jaguar bringing 550 hp XKR-S super coupe to Geneva

Jaguar XKR-S

We’ve heard rumblings of a more-powerful XKR. We saw spy shots of the rumored two-door as it blew through the English countryside wearing a dash of camouflage. And now it’s official: Jaguar is bringing a more powerful XKR to the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, and goes by the name XKR-S.

We can only assume Jaguar is sticking with the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 as a motivational tool because the full details won’t be unvieled until next week’s shindig in Switzerland. However, we have been given a few numbers: 550 horsepower, 502 pound-feet of torque, a top-speed of 186 miles per hour and the ability to run from zero-to-60 miles per hour in just 4.2 seconds.

If you weren’t excited enough about Geneva, Jaguar just gave you 550 reasons to start drooling. Get the full details in the press release after the jump.

Jaguar testers have just been caught running around the British countryside with a pair of camouflaged XK coupes. One looks to be the upcoming facelifted XKR, while the other appears to be a mysterious – and as-yet unnamed – more powerful XKR variant.

Rumor has it that this super XKR could be named the XK-E in honor of the 50th anniversary of Jaguar’s legendary E-Type. We really only know two things about it at the moment: it’s based off the 530-horsepower XKR Goodwood Special, and we’re dying to see it in Jaguar’s booth at the upcoming 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

Bertone B 99 concept for Jaguar leaks out ahead of Geneva

Filed under: Concept Cars, Sedan, Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar, Design/Style

Opinions have been split over Jaguar’s latest design phase. Some are enamored of the company’s modern styling on the likes of the latest XF and XJ sedans, while others lament the demise of the company’s classic lines. What very well might be called for, then, is an outside alternative. And judging from the leaked images above, it looks like we’re about to get exactly that at the fast-approaching Geneva Motor Show.

The B 99 concept sedan above is apparently Bertone’s take on what a modern Jag should look like, and according to the rumors circulating around with it, it takes the form of the potential BMW 3 Series rival in Coventry’s pipeline. It isn’t immediately known how much the design house and the automaker have been working together on this concept, or what, if any chances for production something like this has, but it will likely appear on Bertone’s stand and be one of the main talking points of the whole show.

Rumormill: Jaguar considering shooting brake, Evoque-based CUV

Filed under: Wagon, Crossover, Jaguar, Rumormill

Jaguar is looking to expand on its existing lineup of vehicles. Currently, Leaping Cat buyers can choose from variants on the two-door XK, four-door XF and flagship XJ sedan. A two-door, four-passenger XJ-based coupe is reportedly in the works and will take aim at the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class. Also apparently being discussed is a shooting-brake based on the XF and an entry-level crossover based on the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.

According to Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director for Jaguar, crossovers will be a definite part of the automaker’s future. Besides the proposed entry-level Evoque-based CUV, Jaguar is considering another crossover based on the Range Rover Sport.
