Video: Jaguar XJ220 hooned remotely by a kid

Filed under: Classics, Coupe, Performance, Videos, Jaguar

Tax the Rich is at it again, this time hooning a Jaguar XJ220 over some unforgiving terrain.

The Tax the Rich crew has a knack for indulging in automotive fantasies and capturing it all on video, such as a tug-of-war battle between two Ferrari F50s, drifting a Ferrari Enzo on gravel roads and even powersliding a Rolls-Royce Phantom on a field of wet grass. This latest video features a Jaguar XJ220 and a kid with an iPad, who somehow is able to control the old supercar with the Apple product.

No, there’s no app for that (yet), and we lied – the boy isn’t actually controlling the car – but it sure is nice to see the XJ220 in all its turbocharged, six-cylinder glory doing donuts and sliding across a grassy field. It jolts us to see the old Jaguar – capable of 217 miles per hour and once described by Jeremy Clarkson as having no brakes and massive turbo lag – thrown about like a rally car, but then we never imagined anybody would abuse a Rolls-Royce like that either. We’ll continue to leave the high-stakes antics to Tax the Rich – we’re just glad somebody had the guts to behave so badly in such a valuable machine. What else were they made for?

Be sure to check out the video below, if you have a pulse.

Video: Razor Crazy Cart may be the coolest kid-size drift car money can buy

It might as well be a fact that if you want to get ahead in the world of motorsports, you need to start young. And since most toddlers can’t see over the wheel or reach the pedals in an actual car, karts are the most logical option. Unfortunately, big league karts are not cheap.

Enter the Crazy Cart, from Razor. Somehow, we doubt there’s ever been a better way of teaching a small child about car control. With four corner-mounted castors and a single electrically powered wheel below the steering column, the Crazy Cart can make any pre-schooler a drifting master. That central wheel can turn 360 degrees, which blesses the Crazy Cart with sublime agility and ease of control. A tiny handbrake is also available, for even more lurid sliding.

Of course, there are concerns. One Autoblog staffer called it “a pediatrician’s nightmare,” and while it does look stable, we’d be inclined to agree. And then there’s the $400 asking price. While it’s expensive, it’s probably a lot cheaper than dropping money on a kart, only to find out that your kid isn’t all that into it. And besides, as the video shows, it can handle an adult.

In that case, we’ll take seven. Check out the video below for the full rundown of the Crazy Cart’s abilities.

Kid-sized Mini Seven is perfect for minimalist children

Mini Seven go-kart

We’re a little torn on this one. You’re looking at what could possibly be the most awesome go kart ever crafted by human hands: the Mini Seven. Mini is a company that specializes in high-end electric golf carts that vary from a proportionally-correct Hummer resort vehicle to a Bentley Continental GT lookalike. This, however, is different. The Seven was built specifically with children in mind, and Mini says that the pint-sized interpretation of Colin Chapman’s wonder is safe for operation on tarmac or in fields. Powered by a Honda gasoline engine, the car has a top speed of around 19 mph.

Four disc brakes with a fully-adjustable proportioning valve are standard, as are a set of four-point harnesses to keep your budding speed demon firmly planted in the optional leather seats. Even the pedals are adjustable to keep up with a kid’s growth.

Unfortunately, all of this unbelievable kit comes with a similarly eye-widening price tag. Expect to fork over £6,995, or roughly $11,305. Awesome? Sure. That awesome? Probably not.

Kid Rock receives a Camaro for his birthday – Click above to watch video after the jump

Chevrolet and NASCAR racer Jimmie Johnson teamed up to make Kid Rock’s recent birthday party one the Detroit city rocker will likely never forget. During the singer’s 40th birthday celebration concert, Johnson presented Rock a brand-new Chevrolet Camaro on behalf of the Bow Tie brand. You know, because if there’s anyone who can’t afford to buy his own car, it’s Kid Rock. Sarcasm aside, Rock seemed genuinely surprised and grateful for the gift, even going so far as to ask if he was being punked.

No, sir. That’s the rest of us.

Ironically, the birthday celebration concert that Kid threw himself was being held at Ford Field. The one-off Camaro also came with special graphics slathered over the hood, doors and back glass, as well as a personalized “BADASS” license plate. We couldn’t make this stuff up if we tried. You can hit the jump to see a video of the gift-giving for yourself.

Jaguar XKR175 kicks off the kid brother mantle at Pebble Beach

Life can’t have been easy for Jaguar in the Ford PAG years. Sure, the automaker had an influx of capital to dedicate to development of new models and the fine-tuning of existing ones. And sure, its notorious reliability and quality levels skyrocketed to a near-acceptable level (which is quite far from where they were). But all the same, it had to live in the shadow of their big brother Aston Martin.

The current Tata era, then, must be a breath of fresh air, with no one impeding Jag’s upwards growth. Exhibit A: the XKR175. Like its continental (and similarly named) counterpart, the XKR 75, it’s been made to celebrate the marque’s 75th anniversary. Of course it’s based on the XKR, a model of unique feline reflexes that was once impeded in its potential by the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, never mind the DB9. But no more – with AML now under separate ownership, the XKR175 demonstrates just what the British GT is capable of.

We’re talking about 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque from the supercharged V8. We’re talking about a beefed-up aero kit, bigger wheels and super-sized brakes. We’re talking about an unveiling no less prestigious than the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, so check out the solo image released in the interim and the press release after the jump.

If you like what you see, you’d better call your local dealer now. Because with a limited production run of – you guessed it – 175 examples (15 of which will head north to the land of igloos and maple syrup, the rest to be divided between these United States), you can bet that – even with a $104,500 price tag – demand will outstrip supply. Even Aston Martin will have to stand up and take notice to that.
