Lexus supercar versus super sedan – Click above to watch the video after the jump

Lexus UK finally has its first LFA on the Queen’s home turf. Rather than take it on a glam tour by propping it up in shiny showrooms, Lexus is taking it to the track. It’s also bringing along a camera to record the sights and sounds that come along with the two-door supercar.

Recently, the LFA lined up at the Bruntingthorpe Proving Grounds alongside its sibling, the Lexus IS F and both were put through the requisite paces. Unfortunately for the IS F, however, its dulcet exhaust tone was drowned out by the banshee wail spewed forth from the tri-tipped rear of the LFA. Click past the jump to revel in the noise.

Niki Lauda lines up on the grid for his own biopic

Niki Lauda

With the Senna biopic now streaming to television sets everywhere, reports are coming in that another film is undergoing production that focuses on Niki Lauda.

The Austrian driver is a three-time Formula One World Champion and rated as one of the best of all time. His career spanned over the 1970s and 1980s, driving most notably for Ferrari, then coming out of retirement to score his third world championship with McLaren – a move that Michael Schumacher surely took to heart.

The film reportedly focuses on the 1976 championship, when Lauda crashed at the Nürburgring, losing his right ear and suffering severe burns to his face. He returned – spoiler alert! – just six weeks later having missed two grands prix, and only to lose the title to James Hunt by just one point.

The screenplay is reportedly being written by Peter Morgan, best known for his work on Frost/Nixon and The Queen. They’re apparently still hunting for director and producers, but as for the actor who will play the lead role, Lauda himself reportedly quipped, “Anyone who is 25 or 26 with his right ear burnt off and dreams to be made up to look like me can start making plans.”

Video: Lexus LFA launch control makes start lines disappear quickly

Lexus LFA displays serious control on launch – Click above to watch video after the jump

Today, it’s almost impossible to buy a new supercar without launch control; the 2011 Lexus LFA is no exception. It might not be the fastest, with a zero-to-60 time of “only” 3.7 seconds, yet the LFA remains an impressive rubber-footed beast.

The LFA’s V10 wails towards its 9,500 rpm fuel cutoff like an oni haunting whoever slides behind the wheel. The video posted after the jump focuses on the tachometer as a Lexus LFA bolts from a starting line with the launch control lending its assistance. The driver pushes the car all the way up to 260 km/h (around 163 mph) before letting up on the throttle. Click past the jump to launch into the clip.

2010 Cadillac SRX recalled over power steering lines

Filed under: China, Recalls, Safety, Crossover, Cadillac, Luxury

General Motors has announced a voluntary recall of the 2010 Cadillac SRX luxury CUV over concerns of possible damaged power steering lines. The recall affects 3,996 units, and of those GM believes only two or three are actually affected by this issue. If the power steering lines in question are damaged, they could leak steering fluid onto the engine and start a fire, which has actually happened in at least one case. GM’s official statement after the jump. [Source: General Motors]

Mexico’s Mastretta releases a few lines about MXT sports car for Paris

Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Specialty, South America

Mastretta MXT teaser announcement

Mexican sports car intender Mastretta has officially announced that it will reveal the production version of its MXT at this month’s Paris Motor Show.

Longtime Autoblog readers may recall that the Latin auto was actually expected to go on sale back in 2009, but for unknown reasons, it evidently hasn’t made it into serial production yet. Previously shown iterations of the MXT have been powered by a 2.0-liter Ford Duratec four-cylinder, with the promise that a production model would be turbocharged and fettled by the enginemeisters at Cosworth. The target back then was a modest 240 horsepower, but with an expected weight of under a ton, 0-60 mph was expect in under five seconds.

At this point, we’re not sure if the car will look like the model revealed in 2007, let alone how many MXTs are planned, or at what cost. Back in 2008, Mastretta indicated that they were targeting about 150 units per year, with fully 70 percent of production earmarked for Europe and the United States. Click past the jump for the company’s announcement and check out our gallery of the original MXT below.

UK road workers lift parked cars, paint lines underneath them, then give warnings

If you’ve ever felt like the meter maid is out to get you, you’re not alone. You may not be paranoid, either. According to a report in the UK’s Daily Mail, a Manchester work crew recently found their efforts hindered by a number of cars parked along a side street. Rather than simply wait and close down the road after the vehicles left, the crew brought in a flatbed tow truck with a crane, lifted said vehicles off of the road, commenced to paint new parking restriction lines and replaced the vehicles facing the opposite direction.

Here’s where things get dicey. Before the paint even managed to dry, three of the vehicles on the road were ticketed for being illegally parked. Needless to say, the owners objected, and eventually the citations were swapped with notes with a warning to be more careful about where the owners choose park their vehicles in the future.
