Ever get the feeling that your car is little more than an oversized toy? Lorenzo Quinn evidently did. The sculptor took the very first car he ever bought – an original Fiat 500 – and transformed it into the public display of art you see here.

The installation piece features a four-meter-tall child’s hand and forearm, modeled after that of his own son and crafted out of aluminum, grabbing the Fiat like a giant kid playing with a toy car.

After being displayed in Abu Dhabi and Valencia, Spain, the sculpture has now been installed on Park Lane, a swanky stretch of road in central London characterized by a number of five-star hotels and high-end automobile dealerships. This certainly ought to put things into perspective for the next noble gentleman shopping for a new motor car. Peter De Lorenzo takes on auto industry in 140 characters or less

De Lorenzo's Twitter-length rant

The Autoextremist, Peter De Lorenzo, has done his best for “the minions, the gamers, the coddled and the entitled” who want an update on the auto industry but don’t want to bother actually reading about it. You know the folks – the ones who write “summarize plz” or “Cliffs Notes?” in a comment thread because they can’t be bothered taking the time to figure out what happened.

Done something like Abrose Bierce’s Devil’s Dictionary but in the space of a tweet – that being no more than 140 characters, and 32 tweets in total – De Lorenzo covers just about every major carmaker and a few other subjects to boot. General Motors’ marketing, but not the company itself, gets two tweets, and electric cars also get a double-dip. Not one for restraint, tweets include “Electric Cars: A niche wrapped in an enigma in search of decent batteries and a sustainable infrastructure. Other than that, it’s all good.” Click the link for more… Hat tip to Chris

MotoGP 2010: Qualifying in pictures, Lorenzo on the State of Yamaha

Jorge Lorenzo at the 2010 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca – Click above for high-res image gallery

We’re live from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix this weekend, and we’ve just finished unloading our memory cards after MotoGP qualifying. Let’s just say that the race is even more awe-inspiring in person than it is on television. The sights, the sounds and the smells truly are amazing. We can only hope that our high-res image gallery below can offer at least a bit of the excitement that we feel after witnessing the amazing athleticism required to handle the famous Corkscrew.

We also found a way to sneak away a few of Jorge Lorenzo’s rather valuable time, and we asked a couple of questions that we know are on the minds of MotoGP fans the world over. First up, Lorenzo tells us that Ben Spies is very likely to be his teammate on Yamaha’s Factory Team in 2011. Where will Valentino Rossi be? Lorenzo’s not going to speculate, naturally… but draw your own conclusions on that one.

Further, Lorenzo – who is on pole for tomorrow’s race – indicates that relations between he and Rossi are “not good.” Again, not exactly earth shattering news to anyone paying attention, but we still thought it was interesting that Lorenzo chose those words in our interview. And finally, for those who may be interested, Lorenzo’s last name is indeed pronounced “Lorentho,” as you hear on American television every MotoGP weekend. So there you go.

Stay tuned for actual racing results tomorrow, and be sure to check past the break for the official qualifying results.
