Report: Arrest warrant issued for NASCAR driver Mike Harmon

Mike Harmon

The next step in the off-track saga involving NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers Mike Harmon and Jennifer Jo Cobb has been taken, with arrest warrants issued for Harmon and business associate David Novak. In May, Harmon was charged with stealing a car hauler and other goods worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from Cobb’s shop, and after saying he didn’t steal them and maintaining his innocence, seven of the stolen vehicles were found on two of his properties that same month.

The issue is an acrimonious commercial separation with Cobb on one side, Harmon and Novak on the other. Harmon drives for Novak’s team – and Cobb did too until last year – and Harmon and Novak allege that the stolen property actually belongs to the team, but Cobb took it. Novak and Cobb are in court over the matter, but when a judge declined Novak’s request to have Cobb return the property, it appears he worked with Harmon to get it back the five-finger way.

Harmon and Novak have been charged with breaking and entering, as well as larceny after breaking an entering. At the time of writing, neither man had been arrested, the hauler still hasn’t been found, and as for the cars that were recovered it’s been claimed that they were stripped and are worth something like $10,000 apiece, a steep drop from their original reported value of $150,000 apiece.

Mike Yager, author of Corvette Bible

It’s often said that you’ll be happy if you find a way to do something you love. Mike Yager took that saying to heart. In 1970, at the age of 20, Yager went out and bought his first Corvette, a 1967 convertible. Four years later, Yager borrowed $500 to start up a small business selling parts manuals and accessories from the back of a car. That business, along with Yager’s reputation, grew strong in the Corvette community. In 1976, Mike Yager made a life-changing move to turn this into his full-time job, and Mid America Motorworks was born.

Thirty-seven years after he borrowed those Benjamins, Yager has turned Mid America Motorworks into a company that ships over four million catalogs per year. And his collection of Corvettes has grown exponentially since he bought that ’67 drop-top. Some standouts include CERV-1, XP-819 and a 1968 Le Mans Corvette that’s painted Ferrari red and wears the prancing stallion on its front fenders.

It’s not just Corvettes, however, as Yager also has a soft spot for old Volkswagens. He celebrates both makes at his annual Funfest events, one for VWs and one for the Corvette. The Funfest weekend has grown since the very first one took place back in 1994. In 2010, Mid America’s 180+ acre Effingham, Illinois facility played host to over 17,000 cars and more than 45,000 people.

The man’s knowledge of Corvettes is also freakishly extensive. Yager has applied it into a book called the Corvette Bible. In it, Yager delves into the details of every Corvette model produced since the first 300 rolled off an assembly line for the 1953 model year.

This isn’t just a book for ‘Vette collectors, however, because it’s filled with amazing photography and a wealth of knowledge that makes an informative read for even casual Corvette fans. Now in it’s second edition, the Corvette Bible covers cars right up to 2011. The first edition was good enough to earn a spot on the New York Times bestseller’s list, so we think the second edition deserves a spot on your coffee table.

Jaguar’s Mike O’Driscoll to retire in March

Mike O'Driscoll

Jaguar has announced that Managing Director Mike O’Driscoll will retire from the company early next year, at least from his day-to-day duties. The charismatic executive has been on-board at the Leaping Cat since the company was still part of the Ford portfolio. He helped usher Jaguar out from under the glare of the Blue Oval and into the hands of India’s Tata Motors. From there, O’Driscoll was among the key hands in the introduction of the new XF, XK and the super-sexy XJ.

No one’s saying exactly how O’Driscoll will spend his days after he officially retires in March of next year, though Jaguar says that he will stay on as the chairman of Jaguar Heritage. There, he’ll help manage the company’s expansive collection of vintage machines.

We can’t blame him for holding onto that gig.

At the moment, Jaguar is remaining tight-lipped about who will take O’Driscoll’s place once he steps down, but then again, they’ve got a few months or so to sort it all out. Hit the jump for the brief press release.

Mike Rowe narrating Ford F-150 EcoBoost web documentary

EcoBoost Documentary

Ford tortures its EcoBoost engine – Click above to watch video after the jump

Ford is itching to show that its 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine is tough enough to take whatever F-150 buyers can throw at it. In order to do so, the company has lined up a bevy of torture tests and enlisted Mike Rowe to narrate a documentary on the whole affair. Things will kick off with Ford randomly selecting an EcoBoost engine off of the assembly line to be subjected to the equivalent of 150,000 miles on the dyno. From there, the engine will be bolted into an F-150, where it will head to Oregon to skidsteer logs for a lumber company.

Then, the same truck and engine will head to Homestead Miami Speedway where it will tow two Sprint Cup Ford Fusion race cars around the track for 24 hours at full throttle, stopping only for fuel and tires along the way.

But wait, there’s more.

From there, the engine will be removed from the 2011 F-150 and bolted into a specially prepared race truck, where it will do battle in the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. After all of that, Ford will tear down the engine and give the public a look at how things went inside. Sounds like a party. You can hit the jump for a look at the full press release and to check out the first video in the series.
