GQ in Tim Allen's Garage

Jay Leno might be the celebrity that’s known for an impressive car collection, but there’s no shortage of big names stars that enjoy picking up new rides. Tim Allen, star of Home Improvement, Toy Story, and Galaxy Quest is one of those celebs. Being a Detroiter, Allen’s collection of muscle cars shouldn’t be a huge surprise. However, it’s the generally eclectic feel of his collection that makes it interesting.

GQ took a video camera inside Allen’s Los Angeles garage, where he keeps a spate of muscle cars, along with some truly rare finds and a few one-off deals. The video includes an interesting anecdote about his Ford RS200, along with closer looks at a Shelby Cobra 289, a 1950 Cadillac, and the same 1933 Ford that was rebuilt on-air during Home Improvement‘s run.

We’ve got the full video below, so be sure to swing down and check it out.

Video: Porsche provides a peek at the 2011 Targa Tasmania

2011 targa tasmania finish line

Last leg of the 2011 Targa Tasmania – Click above to watch video after the jump

The Targa Tasmania is a road-rally event that’s been running since 1992, taking place, as you may have guessed, on the island of Tasmania. In 2011, this five-day race began in the coastal city of George Town and ended in the capital city of Hobart. The event features both classic and modern sports cars, changing weather conditions and some truly amazing driving talent.

Targa Tasmania has played host to some amazing drivers (such as Walter Röhrl) and equally amazing machines (such as Eric Bana’s Beast). Porsche rather conveniently put together a video shot on the last leg of the 2011 Targa, and you can watch it by clicking past the jump. There you’ll see Porsche driver extraordinaire Röhrl and others talk about their participation in the rally, and you’ll also see plenty of footage of all the little Tasmanian Devils as they wind their way across the island before finally crossing the finish line. Enjoy!

Tesla Model S Development Facility

It’s not every day that an automaker invites you inside its R&D center. In fact, it’s rare for any OEM to allow journalists into a room that hasn’t been swept floor-to-ceiling for any hint of what’s around the corner. Then again, Tesla isn’t exactly your average automaker.

The electric upstart, with its roots firmly entrenched in the Wild West idealism of Silicon Valley, is in the process of developing and testing its all-new electric sedan – the Tesla Model S – before series production begins next year. So in the Valley’s spirit of openness and transparency, Tesla threw open its doors, corralled a few engineers and execs, and let us poke around its Palo Alto powertrain facility to see how development of the Model S is coming along.

Inframe interviews Chris Bangle – Click above to watch video after the jump

If you’ve ever wondered how former BMW design guru Chris Bangle’s mind works, you’re in luck. Inframe has rolled out a special documentary on the man behind some of the more controversial design elements in the BMW stable, and the site has even been so kind as to roll out a teaser video to give us an idea of what to expect from its documentary on Bangle.

Over the course of the quick five-minute clip, the designer touches on everything from his time with General Motors to the inner workings of the separate companies under the BMW banner when he arrived at the German manufacturer at age 35. Bangle also shares what he has tucked away in his own personal garage at the moment, including one very special classic. We won’t spoil it for you. Hit the jump to see the video for yourself. Thanks for the tip, Chris A!

Korean-spec Hyundai Avante interior gives sneak peek inside 2011 Elantra

Filed under: Budget, Sedan, Hyundai, South Korea

2011 Hyundai Avante (Elantra) interior – Click above for high-res image

Even though we have yet to see official images of the U.S.-spec 2011 Hyundai Elantra, we have a pretty good idea of what will be heading our way in the coming months. Hyundai debuted the new Avante sedan (the Elantra’s Korean market equivalent) at the Busan Motor Show this past April, and now the first interior snapshot of the Avante has been leaked out.

If you’ve been in the new 2011 Sonata, you know that the family sedan’s cabin is a giant leap forward in the right direction. The center stack is awash with curves and angles that pay homage to the automaker’s new “fluidic sculpture” exterior design. And styling aside, we’re willing to bet that Hyundai hasn’t skimped out on high-quality materials for the less-expensive Elantra’s innards, either.

This more attractive, better-tailored interior will do well when matched with the swoopier lines of the new Elantra’s exterior. That – combined with Hyundai’s new 138-horsepower, 1.6-liter GDI four-cylinder – will mean that other new cars in the budget sedan segment (this means you, Ford Focus and Chevrolet Cruze) will need to watch their backs. If the new Elantra is being positioned as a baby Sonata, the competition should indeed be stiff. Top tip, Monkaroo!
