Singer 911

First production Singer 911 – Click above for high-res image gallery

Singer has been so kind as to serve up a load of heart-stopping photos of its very first production 911. You may want to set aside a little personal time for this one. If the perfect lines of this particular machine aren’t enough to get you licking your chops, allow us to remind you that you’re currently eyeballing a host of custom-tailored carbon-fiber body work wrapped around a fully modern Porsche drivetrain. That’s right, kids and kiddies, tucked under that classic skirt is a walloping 410-horsepower 3.82-liter flat six engine.

We’re fairly certain that we’d be happy to perform any number of nefarious acts to call this creation our very own.

Singer has stitched in Brembo stoppers on all four corners along with Bilstein coilovers to put all that power to the pavement, and the interior is laced with the kind of kit that you’d expect from a vehicle with a price tag that knocks on the door of $200,000. Look around the cabin and you’ll see a Heuer chronograph, leather weave seats and an RSR steering wheel, among other goodies.

Trust us. You owe it to yourself to scroll through all 71 photos in our high-res image gallery below.

Cars 2 goes international – Click above for high-res image gallery

Disney has dropped the latest trailer for Cars 2, and along with the two-minute clip past the break, they’ve released a slew of new images that make a nice addition to our gallery of Cars 2 characters.

In the second installment of our favorite car-related, Pixar-animated feature, the crew from Radiator Springs goes global, racing in the World Grand Prix and getting caught up in an international espionage ring. Naturally, Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) once again take center stage, and judging by the trailer, the Pixar people continue to one-up their own efforts.

Hit the jump to see the action and check out the new gallery of pics below.

2013 BMW i3 – Click above for high-res image gallery

BMW engineers are busy putting their new line of i-branded vehicles through the winter-ringer, and in addition to testing the i8 hybrid halo, the i3 has been spied taking to the snow.

The shape of the i3 decidedly un-BMW, with its upright, pedestrian-friendly nose, slab sides and bulbous back end. The taillamps fitted to the prototype obviously aren’t production-spec, while the thin tire and wheel combo are doing double-duty, blending winter grip with low rolling resistance. The overall shape is rather anonymous, but we’re digging the sloped roofline and massive greenhouse, which should make visibility that much better.

Although BMW has confirmed that the passenger cell will be made of carbon fiber, the rest of the chassis is likely to employ plenty of aluminum to keep the curb weight in check. What we don’t know is what kind of powertrain is fitted underneath and which wheels are driven. Our sources indicate that the i3’s architecture will be rear-wheel drive, but there’s still some question whether the smallest i will be a hybrid or an EV. If it’s the latter, expect a 0-60 mph time of around 10 seconds and a range that tops out near 100 miles. Sales are slated to begin in late 2013, right after the range-topping i8 hits the market.

Smart ForSpeed Concept

Smart ForSpeed Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

Daimler has been so kind as to serve up a heaping helping of Smart ForSpeed photos ahead of the vehicle’s unveil at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. As you may recall, the concept packs a 41-horsepower electric motor that can whisk this topless wonder all the way to 37 miles per hour in around 5.5 seconds. For reference, those numbers make up a two second improvement over the standard, production version ForTwo ED. We aren’t into denying the fact that two seconds is no small gap, but we wouldn’t exactly go around calling this contraption quick, either.

The ForSpeed will hit the stage next month without a top, though Smart has been kind enough to include a toneau cover should the skies open up while you’re waiting to get to the vehicle’s top speed of 75 mph. The good news is that the ForSpeed carries a range of around 85 miles and can be quick charged to 80 percent of capacity in about 45 minutes.

2011 GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept

GMC Sierra All Terrain HD concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

Cars are cool, but we certainly love ourselves some big, bad, hardcore pickups – you know, like the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor. General Motors’ conceptual answer to Ford’s desert-blasting pickup is this, the Sierra All Terrain HD concept, which we’ll be seeing for the first time at the Detroit Auto Show next week.

GMC’s brutish pickup relies on The General’s 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 for power – 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque, to be exact – and higher ground clearance, a wider stance and serious suspension upgrades make the All Terrain concept capable of storming through, well, all types of terrain.

Word on the street is that if GM gets up the gall to produce such a truck, it will likely be outfitted by a second-tier firm outside of the GM production lines (like a Roush F-150, for example). Regardless, we want this thing to be built, and badly. See a whole slate of new high-res photos for yourself in the gallery below. Oh, and don’t forget about the Ram Runner, Chrysler’s foray into the niche.

Lotus Elise concept

Lotus set the motoring community abuzz when it showed up at the Paris Motor Show with a slew of concept cars. These vehicles show the direction Lotus is moving, and each is a polarizing example of a future filled with heavier yet more powerful Lotus sports cars.

The automaker recently brought its Elise, Esprit, Elan, and Elite concept vehicles out to the beach for a day of camera fun. There really isn’t much more we can say about these cars that we haven’t already said… that is, until someone gives us a few sets of keys (and a lesson in holding back ear-to-ear grins). So stop reading and click through the gallery below.

Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale gets more pics, video, configurator and mini-site

Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Videos, Maserati

Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale – Click above for high-res image gallery

We weren’t looking for any more reasons to fall hard for the new Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale. It’s the hottest machine to wear the Trident emblem since the Enzo-derived MC12 homologated supercar, packing a 450-horsepower V8, a track-ready chassis, optimized aero that increases downforce without dialing up the drag and a stripped-out interior. In short, it is to the “ordinary” GranTurismo what its sister-company’s Scuderia is to the Ferrari F430: a transformation. But in case we needed any more convincing after seeing it up close on the Paris show stand, Maserati has released a whole slew of fresh media for your drooling enjoyment.

Click on the thumbnails below to view the new crop of high-res photos, hit the jump to watch the video or click the link to hit the dedicated mini-site, complete with online configurator.

Dodge releases 2010 Mopar Challenger pics

2010 Dodge Mopar ’10 Challenger – Click above for high-res image gallery

Good news if you’ve been itching to get a look at something other than a renderings and grainy detail shots of the Mopar ’10 Challenger. Dodge has just dropped a hefty batch of photos of the model in full. Supposedly, the company is only building 500 examples of the car, each of with a price tag of $39,000 if you want a six-speed manual. If you can live your life with a slushbox, Dodge will give you the car for $38,000. For that kind of coin, you get a raucous hood scoop and your choice of three accent colors.

Likewise, the interior will also wear a slew of new niceties, including Mopar logos embroidered in the side bolsters of both front seats, matching thread accents and a new steering wheel. Unfortunately, the car is based off of an R/T model, so don’t expect to see the heavy-breathing 6.1-liter V8 from the Challenger SRT8 under the hood.

Volkswagen releases initial pics, details on all-new Caddy

2011 Volkswagen Caddy – Click above for high-res image gallery

It’s been nearly six years since Volkswagen took the knife to its workhorse Caddy, but starting next year, buyers can expect a host of changes. The company has just dished the details on its next-generation van before the vehicle gets its official unveiling at the IAA Hanover Commercial Vehicle Show this November. Don’t expect anything too wild to crop up design-wise. The Caddy will swipe a few cues from the rest of the VW family up front, and new taillights will pop up as well. VW says that it will also offer roof rails for the first time on the new generation.

Take a peek under the hood, and you’re likely to see one of four turbo-diesel engines, all of which are 13 percent more efficient than their predecessors. The range starts with two 1.6-liter mills producing either 75 or 102 horsepower depending on which model you choose, both of which come with start/stop technology. If you click off a little higher up the option sheet, you’ll wind up with one of two 2.0-liter engines. Those produce either 110 or 140 horsepower depending on your needs and your budget. Hit the jump for the full press release.
