Report: Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson rides off into the sunset

2013 Ford F-150 Harley-Davidson Edition with motorcycle

In recent weeks, there’s been a lot of talk about high-margin fullsize pickup sales driving the market toward higher-content branded editions – models like the Chevrolet Silverado High Country, Ford F-150 King Ranch and even the Ram 1500 Red Wings Edition. Often mentioned in that same breath has been the F-150 Harley Davidson Edition, a co-branding partnership between the Blue Oval and America’s most famous motorcycle builder that started back in 2009. But now, it appears that the tie-up has drawn to a close, with Automotive News reporting that Ford has axed the F-150 Harley-Davidson.

No reason has been cited for shuffling this F-150 model off to hog heaven, but AN quotes Doug Scott, Ford’s manager of truck marketing as saying, “We don’t have plans for one at the moment… we’ve got 10 models including a brand-new Limited Model, which was new for 2013. We feel like we’ve got the market really well covered.” Other sources in Ford’s dealer body quoted by AN say they don’t mind that the F-Series HD is gone from their order guides, as it was a low-volume model.

Jeremy Clarkson's Mother on a roller coaster

Jeremy Clarkson rides a roller coaster with his mother – Click above to watch video after the jump

The BBC recently took a look at why some people live for the rush of speed while others cringe at the very thought of acceleration. As it turns out, the difference boils down to how your brain responds to terrifying situations. If, like us, you get giddy at every plunge of the accelerator, chances are that your body cranks out serious levels dopamine – the same chemical responsible for feelings of gratification that accompany stuffing your face with a hearty meal. On the other hand, if your body goes into lock down when the going gets quick, your brain is likely awash with serotonin. In high enough levels, the chemical can cause your body to freeze.

Even if you can’t remember all of that, chances are the video after the jump will stick with you. In it, Jeremy Clarkson and his dear mother take to the fastest roller coaster in the world to effectively illustrate the difference between the two chemicals at work. As we all know, the Top Gear host has no problem with going ever faster. His mother, meanwhile, doesn’t seem to be cut from the same cloth. Hit the jump to see the clip for yourself.

2010 Woodward: Rides that aren’t from around here

Not everything that trawls the potholes of Woodward Ave. during the Dream Cruise was made in America. A lot of the cars aren’t from around here; they’re imports. We’re not just talking about Japanese cars, either. The imports at Woodward often hail from Europe, and are just as classic as anything that Detroit screwed together.

Truth be told, we didn’t capture as many foreign cars as we would have liked between dodging raindrops and trying fill all of our other galleries. But we went ahead and built a high-res gallery with the shots we got because, well, we got some really good ones of classic Porsche 911s, and we figured the Porschephiles among you could use some new desktop wallpaper. Enjoy!

It was just a short time ago – five years, to be exact – that rallying was introduced as a competition in the X Games. The first event started out in spectacular fashion, with Travis Pastrana beating out the late Colin McRae after the former World Rally Championship winner rolled his car with just a few turns to go.

Since then, the competition has become stronger and car manufacturers have increased their involvement as interest in the sport has increased thanks to ESPN’s mainstream audience. This year looks to be one of the most exciting events yet with a host of new cars, new drivers, new rules and even a new event. Follow the jump to learn about what to expect for this year’s X Games 16 and what it’s like to ride shotgun in a 500-horsepower rally car.
