Video: Behind the scenes of a car rollover stunt

With Transformers 4, Fast & Furious 7 and Need for Speed bringing hundreds of millions of dollars of carnage to the Summer of 2014 – and Getaway coming next month – we should probably start learning our car-stunt grammar. We can start with this behind-the-scenes video of a car rollover stunt that provides more that ten minutes of detailed info on each part of the process.

The star – after stunt driver Tom Harper and that Crown Vic – is the air ram that takes just 1.1 seconds to propel and retract a giant ‘foot’ onto the ground to get the car flipping. It is apparently Harper’s own design and supplants the cannon system that launches a projectile in order to launch the car. You can watch Harper and crew explain it all in the video below.

Videos: Inside and behind the scenes of the new Ferrari FF

Ferrari FF, behind the scenes – Click above to watch the videos after the jump

Typically when an automaker rolls out a new vehicle, it fits into a certain mold. Even if it isn’t replacing a specific model, it generally follows a certain formula by which the automaker operates. Especially for an automaker like Ferrari, which only makes – and only has ever made – two-door, rear-wheel drive coupes and convertibles. That was the case, at least, until the new FF came along.

The FF represents a complete game-changer for Maranello – an entirely new model with a new engine, new body-style and new four-wheel drive system never before seen in a Ferrari. And to drive that point home, the Prancing Horse marque has released yet another set of videos: one documenting the new technology in the car, another the flexible cabin configurations and a third going behind the scenes in the production of the previous videos released. Follow the jump to watch for yourself.

Our compatriots over at Edmunds’ Inside Line said it best: The new Lamborghini Aventador looked pretty striking sitting still upon its debut at the Geneva Motor Show this year, but a Raging Bull like this one shouldn’t be sitting still. It needs to be run, and run hard.

Fortunately, our friends had the opportunity to accompany the new Lambo on a video shoot in the Californian desert to let it stretch its legs and get it good and covered in silt. Follow the jump to watch the video footage.

Behind the scenes with Motus – Click above to watch video after the jump

It would be planetary-sized understatement to say we’re a little excited about the work that the guys and girls at Motus are up to these days. With engineering work from names like Pratt & Miller and Katech, the MTS-01 and MTS-R should prove to be something to write home about. Both bikes get their power from a direct-injection V4 that’s essentially a scale version of the General Motors LS-family V8. At just 18 inches across, the engine hits the scales at 130 pounds and cranks out 160 horsepower.

Motus is planning to ride the two new bikes from the Pratt & Miller offices in Michigan to Daytona, Florida for Bike Week, with plans on hitting around 250 locations around the country during and after the bikes’ unveil in the Sunshine State. In order to get the word out, the company has unveiled a quick video to demonstrate just some of the work that went into bringing the motorcycles from CAD files to life. Hit the jump to see the clip for yourself as well as a press release on the MTS-01.

Consumer Reports behind-the-scenes

Consumer Reports Behind the Scenes – Click above to watch video after the jump

Admittedly, the crew from Consumer Reports hangs out in a different slice of the automotive spectrum than we do. While we can’t seem to wrap our minds around why every driver doesn’t want rear-wheel drive, diesel-powered wagon with a manual cogbox and roll-up windows, CR knows the Hows and Whys of what people actually look for in a vehicle. They spend hours upon hours testing every make and model of vehicle imaginable – all of which are bought from dealers instead of borrowed from press fleets. If you want the bare-bones, honest take on what a car, truck or SUV is like to live with, these guys have the answers.

Consumer Reports has gone through the trouble of releasing a video that shows off exactly what goes into their testing process, including some antics on the organization’s sprawling test track. The quick clip even lends a glimpse into some of the high-tech data acquisition devices used to churn out the publication’s braking numbers – too cool.

Hit the jump to take a look at the video for yourself.

Volkswagen Darth Vader commercial

VW Darth Vader commercial deleted scenes and bloopers – Click above to watch the video

There are only two car commercials from the Super Bowl that we’re still talking about two days later. The first is Chrysler’s two-minute-long love letter from Detroit to the rest of the country starring rapper Eminem, and the other is Volkswagen’s Darth Vader commercial. Searches on Autoblog for the new Passat, which the commercial happens to be advertising, jumped 270 percent on the day after it aired.

VW wants to make sure we’re still talking about its new brand ambassador, six-year-old actor Max Page, a little while longer, so the company has released this cute video of bloopers from the commercial shoot and deleted scenes that didn’t make the final cut. Follow the jump to see Max slip and fall, be interrupted by a Roomba and finally worshipped by his parents who now fully understand his power.

Video: Transformers 3 shares new scenes during Super Bowl commercial

Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon – Click above to watch video after the jump

Transformers fans saw a little treat get tucked amongst the slew of high-dollar ads during last night’s Super Bowl. Michael Bay and company unleashed another solid glimpse at the next film in the mighty morphing machine saga with a trailer for Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon. Judging by the quick clip, we can look forward to more of what made the first two flicks so enjoyable to begin with: intense CG fight scenes, massive destruction and more than a few slow-motion moments.

Shia Labeouf also makes a return appearance.

Labeouf’s new co-star, Rosie Huntington-Whitley, also makes a brief appearance during the trailer. We’ll reserve judgment on whether or not she’s a suitable replacement for Megan Fox until we actually see the movie. Just don’t blink during the trailer or you’ll miss Huntington-Whitley entirely. You can hit the jump to check out the video for yourself. Also be sure to take a look at a slew of production stills courtesy of AB pal CEOFR. Thanks for the video tip, Ace!

Video: Behind the scenes with Lexus’ ‘The Hard Way’ spot

Behind the scenes clip from Lexus' The Hard Way Chain commercial

Behind the Scenes of Lexus’ “The Hard Way – Chain” commercial – Click above to watch video after the jump

Lexus has released a new line of commercials that revolve around the theme “the hard way.” In one such commercial titled Chain, Lexus attaches cables to an LS sedan and raises it off the ground. The idea is to show you how strong the chassis is because it can support its own weight when lifted into the air. Since the theme is “the hard way,” the weight of just one single LS clearly isn’t enough and Lexus attaches four vehicles to LS and raises them all in the air.

The commercial does an excellent job of conveying Lexus’ solid built quality through a visual exercise. Is it real though? You bet’cha it is… and to show how they did it, Lexus has released a behind-the-scenes video and it’s hanging around after the jump. We also threw in a few more examples of Lexus’ “The Hard Way” campaign just for the fun of it. Enjoy!

Hyundai's Holiday Pomplamoose ads

Hyundai Holidays Pomplamoose ads – click above to watch video after the jump

Have you been digging the fun takes on classic Christmas songs in the “Hyundai Holidays” commercials? Meet Pomplamoose, the musical duo that stars in a series of Hyundai commercials alongside some of the company’s vehicles.

This isn’t the first time Pomplamoose’s unique vocal stacks and arrangements have been used in a car ad, their version of “Mr. Sandman” was used in a Toyota Avalon spot, but the Hyundai commercials are unusual for featuring Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn as prominently as the cars. In fact, the Hyundai commercials are consistent in style with the “regular” videos Pomplamoose has done. The coolest thing (besides the fun instrumentation) is that the ads were shot in the band’s garage. Young Yngwie Malmsteens practicing their minor pentatonic scales now have hope of being discovered without ever leaving the house! Check out the story behind the commercials and see the spots after the jump.

Behind Cadillac’s “The Competition” commercial for the CTS-V – Click above to watch video after the jump

Once upon a time – May 9, 2008 to be precise – the Cadillac CTS-V ran the ‘Ring in 7:59.32, and just five days later we had video proof of the event. Now that over two years have passed, the feat will leave the geek-o-riffic world of ‘Ring time watchers and be shared with the rest of America in a commercial called The Competition.

What that commercial will say or how it will be used to promote this particular bit of rather old and arcane news is to be determined, but we do know what’s behind the scenes. If you want to find out, you’ll hop on after the jump and check out the three-minute vid with director Jeff Zwart. Yes, that Jeff Zwart…
