The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu will be unveiled on Monday at the Shanghai Motor Show. General Motors is expectedly making a big deal of the event, and started dropping teasers a couple weeks back. Those were followed by a full-on, high-resolution pic of the Malibu in red on Thursday. And now? Another picture of the China-spec car in blue. Since it’s static, we get a clean look at the new Malibu’s wheels and a better idea of the car’s profile

If you feel like you’re already overstuffed on the 2013 Malibu, try to save some room for the main course, which comes in the form of the sedan’s official debut in Shanghai. The live reveal will be streamed via webcast on Chevy’s Facebook page on Monday, April 18 at 8:30 p.m. EDT.

Top Gear‘s Middle East tour reportedly shot for Christmas Special

Were you wondering what the Top Gear crew were doing in Israel when they were spotted there last month? Well wonder no more.

Reports from the British Isles are now stating that the tour across the Middle East was actually shot for a Christmas Special in which Clarkson, Hammond and May retrace the steps of the Three Wise Men who, according to Christian lore, visited the Virgin Mary and the Baby Jesus in the manger in Bethlehem. Only while the trio of yore did it on camel-back, two millennia later, the team of British auto journos – who may have picked up as many followers today as the Nazarene messiah did in his – rode in across Turkey and Syria in three old roadsters.

Looks like it’s going to be a Merry Christmas after all, Charlie Brown.

Jeep J8 gets shot up to earn ballistic protection certification

Jeep J8 Ballistic Tests

Jeep J8 undergoes ballistic tests – Click above for high-res image gallery

In its ongoing quest to return the Jeep name to its military roots, Chrysler has just put the J8 through ballistic and blast certification. The company says that its using a new manufacturing technique by hot-forming steel to create a protective shell for the vehicle. Sounds fancy, and evidently it’s tough enough to take the kind of abuse necessary to be awarded BRV 2009 VR7 ballistic protection certification. What does all that mean? No matter what your daily commute throws at you, chances are this beefed-up Wrangler will get you to work in one piece.

The J8 is currently being marketed to military, government and private security operations that require the kind of vehicle that can drive through a hail of small-arms fire without getting perforated. There are also a number other configurations available – everything from well-armed patrol vehicles to troop and cargo transports.

We wouldn’t mind having one of each to play around with for a weekend… how about you? Thanks for the tip, Joe!

Moto Guzzi V12 Concepts shot in the studio

Moto Guzzi V12 X Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

Late last year, Moto Guzzi showed off a trio of concept bikes to point the way forward for the famed Italian marque as it struggles to shed its somewhat stodgy image and attract new buyers. Judging from the effort, which was led by Miguel Galluzzi (he of Ducati Monster and Aprilia RSV4 fame) and Pierre Terblanche (who designed the famed Ducati Supermono, 999, Multistrada 620 and 1000 and Hypermotard), we think they’re on to something big.

The boys from Hell For Leather recently got the chance to sit down with the designing duo and scored both an interview and the first studio shots taken of both the V12 Le Mans and V12 X. We’re big fans of both these concepts, though we’d perhaps steal bits of each one and combine them to make the ideal Guzzi. For instance, we prefer the no-nonsense supermoto style and general ethos of the X but think the single-sided swingarm with integral shock and linkage is pretty darn awesome. As is the flyscreen/LED light combo on the Strada.

Take a look at both bikes in our high-res image gallery below, and check out HFL for more details on the Strada, V12 X and Le Mans.

Ford Explorer reaches 30,000 Facebook fans, celebrates with grille shot

2011 Ford Explorer grille – Click above for teaser gallery

Earlier today, Ford hit its 30,000 fan for the 2011 Explorer Facebook page, so the automaker could give away one all-new unibody ‘ute to a lucky follower. To celebrate meeting its goal, Ford has posted yet another teaser, showing off the new Explorer’s grille. But enough with the teasers. When can we actually see it in person? Glad you asked…

This coming Monday, Ford will reveal the Explorer at live events across the U.S., including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and at the “glass house” in Dearborn, MI. At a preview of the Explorer in Dearborn earlier this week, marketing VP Jim Farley discussed how Ford plans to drum up interested in the Explorer, and based on the success of last year’s Fiesta Movement social media campaign, the Explorer will be omnipresent online and elsewhere in the lead-up to the on-sale date late this year.

According to Farley, the Fiesta campaign required only 10 percent of what a typical new vehicle launch costs, but it overwhelmingly succeeded in establishing name recognition for the small car well ahead of its arrival in showrooms. Given that America already knows the Explorer, Ford will be focusing on how it’s “reinvented the SUV for the 21st century.” We can’t tell you more at the moment, but look forward to full details this Monday 12:01 AM EDT.

Land Rover puts a spin on spy shot camouflage to introduce Evoque to the world

2011 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque says hello – Click above for high-res image gallery

Having already introduced its new two-door Range Rover Evoque to the world, Land Rover is taking a different tack when it comes to testing its pre-production fleet. While most manufacturers stick to draping their wares in plenty of psychedelic camouflage and plastic cladding to disguise the vehicle, Land Rover has taken to swaddling its prototypes in neon vinyl wraps to stir up a little buzz. The company is launching its final wave of testing on the vehicle, including putting the CUV through its paces in extreme environments like the Arctic.

Meanwhile, in its quest to iron out all possible bugs, engineers will be driving the Evoque around cities from New York to Shanghai – 10 in all. The Evoque will wear a vinyl wrap with a detailed GPS map of its foster city traced in neon lines from stem to stern. Very cool. Land Rover claims that the Evoque will be the lightest and most fuel-efficient vehicle the company has ever created. Whether that’s true or not, this pre-production stunt will likely win the new comer the most outgoing award. Check out the gallery of high-res images below, then hit the jump for the full press blast.
