Making a limited edition Ford Mustang based off of a famous movie car is nothing new, but Gateway Classic Mustang is taking a different approach. The St. Louis-based company has partnered with the Steve McQueen Estate to produce a modern rendition of the 1968 Ford Mustang featured in the movie Bullitt.

Each car starts out as an original ’67 or ’68 Mustang fastback and is fitted with a 450-horsepower V8, Keisler five-speed transmission, Baer brakes, American Racing wheels and BFGoodrich tires. The suspension has been worked over as well, with adjustable coilovers front and rear.

Gateway Classic Mustang says that they are currently taking orders for the Limited Edition Steve McQueen Mustang, and although pricing isn’t listed, we imagine that they won’t come cheap. You can read more details about the car in the press release after the jump, and be sure to check out the high-res gallery below.

Steve McQueen cologne is what cool smells like

Steve McQueen

Even though he’s long gone, Steve McQueen and his King of Cool attitude can be found all over the place. His name, likeness and films are licensed by numerous companies for the purpose of hawking everything from t-shirts, hoodies and watches up to full-size motorcycles and automobiles. The actor and accomplished racer can now add a new product to his long list of for-sale items – cologne.

If you’ve ever wanted to smell like one of the coolest guys to walk the Earth, you can do so as of September 20, 2010, when the new Steve McQueen cologne becomes available online.

The cost of smelling “cool” (which is, apparently, a top note of fresh green fruit, a hearty section of cardamom, sage and cinnamon and a base woody cedar tone) is hardly cheap; the listed price is €190, or almost $250 US. That’s before taxes and shipping, too. But hey, it comes in a limited-edition gift box

If you really want to smell like McQueen, your best bet is to find a Porsche 917 and spend a few hours behind the wheel until you reek of awesome. Wait – that’s too expensive as well. Truth is, no one will ever be like Steve McQueen, regardless of what they spray on themselves.

Auction Action: Steve Saleen’s pre-pro Ford GT up for grabs in Monterey

Steve Saleen has apparently gotten it in his mind to auction off his personal Ford GT. While we’re not exactly ones to go all star-crossed over a vehicle’s ownership history, this particular car is more than a plain vanilla GT with Saleen’s name on the title. In fact, the car was never titled at all because it’s the fifth of nine prototype vehicles built before GT production got off of the ground in 2005. The car started life dipped in yellow, but received the blue on white treatment at some later point in history.

If the paint doesn’t do anything for you, the fact that the car reportedly wears a hand-built twin-screw supercharger should. Supposedly, Saleen’s GT was the only of the nine prototypes to receive the blessing of forced induction. The car currently has 4,000 miles on the odometer thanks to a lengthy stint in PR and a few movie appearances in the likes of The Fast and the Furious and Rocky Balboa – that’s got to be worth something, right?

If Saleen’s supercar sounds like something you wouldn’t mind sticking in the garage, you’ll need to check out the Russo and Steele auction at Monterey this weekend.
