Report: PR guy behind Chrysler Twitter debacle gets new job

scott bartosiewicz, twitter f-bomb dropper

Everybody deserves a second chance, even the guy who dropped an F-bomb on the official Chrysler Twitter account. The Detroit News reports that Scott Bartosiewicz, the former New Media Strategies employee who accidently sent an expletive-laden tweet expressing frustration about his fellow Detroit motorists, has been hired by the Arts, Beats and Eats in Royal Oak, MI to bolster the suburban Detroit event’s Twitter presence. The annual art, food, and music festival is sponsored by Ford, which is one F-word Bartosiewicz is sure to drop on a regular basis.

It’s nice to see Arts, Beats and Eats give Bartosiewicz a second chance to earn a living, but unfortunately for his former employer, the marketing firm is still without the Chrysler account. Bartosiewicz has hired a lawyer to look into whether his TweetDeck utility accidentally sent his personal profane text to the wrong account.

Video: Mercedes wants you to think Twitter is fuel

Mercedes-Benz engineers play with twitter car control

Mercedes-Benz engineers test out their “tweet fuel” – Click above to watch video after the jump

Automakers have taken to social media with varying degress of success. On one side, we’ve got the Ford Fiesta Movement and on the other we’ve got… nearly every other automaker’s social outreach. And now, we have Mercedes-Benz.

Four teams of two have been picked to race Dallas at Cowboys Stadium, with one team each leaving from New York, Tampa, Chicago and Los Angeles. Each team is captained by a “celebrity” well-versed in the Twitter universe – an odd combination of “coaches,” but they’ve got what Mercedes wants: 7,087,730 followers, combined.

So how does Twitter factor into the race? Each team needs to collect something Mercedes is calling “tweet fuel” and it’s based on the rather vague description of “twitter activity.”

Said “fuel” will help push the team further in their respective vehicles, with NY behind the wheel of a 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL550 4Matic, Tampa driving a 2011 E550 Cabriolet, Chicago getting the keys to a 2011 GL350 BlueTec and LA will use a 2011 S400 Hybrid. If they “win,” each member will receive a 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe.

One more note, Mercedes has put out a teaser of a faux Tweet-guided CL, proving once again that automakers are better at contrived stunts than viral videos. Check it out for yourself after the jump.

Police using Twitter to track down stolen cars

Police using Twitter

Police in Seattle have turned to social media in an effort to help recover stolen vehicles. By sending out a Tweet that describes the liberated vehicle, authorities are hoping someone in the network of followers will spot it and report the vehicle’s location. The Twitter account being used by the SPD goes by the handle @GetYourCarBack and sends out a message listing the year, make, model and license plate of the stolen vehicle.

Every little bit helps and it’s always interesting to see how companies or organizations adopt new uses for technology. Besides the usefulness of the feed, it’s also quite interesting to see what is getting stolen in the Seattle area. We spy lots of Hondas, but also a few scooters and someones Ford F-350 pickup.

2012 Dodge Durango (or is that Magnum?) revealed on Twitter

Filed under: Spy Photos, SUV, Crossover, Chrysler, Dodge

Ah, the magic of the interwebs. Chrysler has yet to officially reveal the 2012 Dodge Durango (which could yet be birthed under the name Magnum), but we’ve come across this rather nonchalant camera phone photo taken by one of the Twitterati.

Judging from the Durango/Magnum spy shots that have come through our hands, the exterior design hasn’t changed much during the SUV-turned-crossover’s development. If we’re honest, the design is a little milquetoast, but we’d rather Chrysler be executing simple designs rather than unsightly messes. Expect the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 and 5.7-liter Hemi V8 to be under the hood when the SUV hits the road in early 2011.
