Report: A. Kahn owner turns down $9M offer for his Veyron’s ‘F1’ license plate

Afzal Khan has a lot of money. This is, after all, the guy that spent $870,000 for the United Kingdom vanity plate F1. Now, as further proof of the high-end tuner’s wealth, he’s turned down a 6-million quid offer for the rare license plate. Who offers $9.3 million for a pair of rectangular pieces of metal? And… more importantly, who turns it down?

According to The Daily Mail, Khan rejected the offer, with a spokesman explaining that, “Mr. Kahn has no interest in selling F1, which is his favorite plate.” As The Mail points out, Khan’s move to snap up F1 when it went on the market in 2008 was a prudent financial move if he’s getting multi-million-pound offers for it.

F1, which spends most of its time on Khan’s Bugatti Veyron, isn’t the only rare plate in Khan’s garage – he also counts 4HRH and NO1 as part of his collection, although it doesn’t sound like either one is quite as valuable.

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport by Bijan

Persian fashion designer Bijan Pakzad was a genuine car nut, and he drove high-dollar exotics on a regular basis. He passed away last month while he was working on a series of special editions for Rolls-Royce, but before he left this world he worked up this one-of-a-kind Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport.

Bijan’s signature yellow dominates everything on this custom Veyron, from the broad stripe running up the center of the polished aluminum bodywork to the wheels and interior. As you can see, Bijan’s trademark bearded face motif is featured prominently on the nose, and Bijan logos are even featured on both sides of the rear wing. There’s even an iPad installed in between the seats that displays the same flower as those rotated daily in his Rodeo Drive boutique.

Created in close collaboration with Bugatti and its design director, Achim Anschdeidt, the car was completed six weeks ago. Low-key it is not, but then neither were Bijan and his other designs. And as you can see from the second video after the jump, it wasn’t the flamboyant designer’s first custom Veyron, either.

Bugatti Veyron Sang Bleu speedboat concept by Ben Walsh

Bugatti Veyron Sang Bleu speedboat concept by Ben Walsh

The Bugatti Veyron has sufficiently proven itself to be king of the road, but what happens when you run out of road? The earth’s surface is, after all, covered in more water than it is land, let alone paved portions thereof. Ben Walsh’s solution? This Bugatti-inspired speedboat design.

A graduate of the Royal College of Art, Walsh was largely responsible for the interior on the Cadillac Converj concept, and has since left GM’s Advanced Design studio for an interior design position at PSA Peugeot Citroën. So he clearly has a passion for French cars, but for this project has set his sights on the exclusive Bugatti Veyron Sang Bleu edition.

Like other boat designs we’ve reported on, this example isn’t likely to ever see production, but it’s beautiful. It takes the Veyron’s aluminum and carbon fiber construction and applies it to the form of a 30-foot speedboat that’s vaguely reminiscent of the spaceships from Star Wars (Episode I) and Flight of the Navigator. The rear shot best illustrates the connection to the Veyron. The boat’s single propeller indicates a single engine, but when you’re packing a 1,000-horsepower, quad-turbo W16, do you really need more than one? Have a closer look in the high-resolution image gallery below, and at the car that served as its inspiration in the gallery below that.

Report: Ferrari Enzo successor inspired by Bugatti Veyron

Ferrari Enzo

We don’t know a whole lot about Ferrari’s successor to the iconic Enzo, but we can guess that the engineers in Maranello are working on something very powerful and extremely fast. After all, the Enzo packed a 6.0-liter V12 with 651 horsepower, so the next model has to carry a bit more bite, right?

If the folks at Autocar are correct, the Enzo may not be the bogey Ferrari has in mind. The UK scribes quote unnamed sources from Ferrari who say the Bugatti Veyron has helped shape what the next range-topping exotic will be.

The British site speculates that one option for powering the next top exotic to don the Prancing Horse could be powered by a twin-turbo V8. Would that be enough power to take on all comers? Consider that the 458 Italia manages 570 horsepower from a naturally aspirated 4.5-liter V8. Add a pair of turbochargers and squeezing out over 700 horsepower doesn’t sound all that difficult. Those aren’t Veyron numbers, but we’d assume that the Ferrari wouldn’t be nearly as big or heavy, either.

Ferrari is reportedly looking to unleash the Enzo successor in the next year or two, and we’re not likely to know much until that time. But at the same time, it’s never too early to start dreaming of the next super Ferrari.

Take a walk-around the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – Click above to watch video after the jump

The first Bugatti Veyron Super Sport has touched down on United States soil. It’s one of only five examples produced that will hit the same top speed as the 268-mile per hour world-record setting version. The other 35 examples to be built will be limited to just 258 mph, because, you know, that extra 10 mph would simply be overkill.

Symbolic Motors of San Diego, California is the lucky dealership holding the keys to this amazing machine. It retails for $2.58 million, though we’re pretty sure that this one was snatched up before it even arrived Stateside. Click past the jump for a video walk-around of the very first Bugatti Veyron Super Sport to hit the States. Thanks for the tip, Mark!

Bad Bugs: Facebook contest for who can configure the ugliest Bugatti Veyron

ugly bugatti veyron

We all love a good online configurator tool. Bugatti may have the best one out there due to the sheer number of exterior and interior color combinations available. That lends itself to problems though because a group on Facebook users decided to hold a competition to see who could produce the ugliest Veyron.

We’ve created a masterpiece of mayhem in the image above, but we suspect you can do even better. Share your work with links in Comments and let’s see what sort of twisted, high-dollar visions foment in your minds. Thanks for the tip, Christian!

Kit Cat: Mercury Cougar makes perfect Bugatti Veyron substitute

Filed under: Coupe, Etc., Bugatti, Mercury, Humor, Specialty

Bugatti Veyron kit car – Click above for high-res image gallery

If you’ve got a pulse in your wrist and a snapping brain cell in your head, chances are you wouldn’t mind parking a Bugatti Veyron in your garage. But for most mere mortals, scrounging up the cash for a physics-bending piece of 16-cylinder glory would require all sorts of unpalatable tasks. Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.

Oh, and $89,000.

Is that cheaper than an actual Veyron? Sure. Is it $73,000 more than we’d pay for this car? Absolutely. For that low price you’ll get all the looks of the Bug with a fraction of the actual performance. Buyers can look forward to a blistering 170 horsepower from a 2.5-liter V6 kicking at the front wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Don’t expect much else.

This particular machine is up for bid via eBay Motors, with four days left on the auction. Act now.

Video: German Veyron owner’s crazy 220-mph Autobahn blast

Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Etc., Videos, Bugatti

Bugatti Veyron speedometer

Ride along in a Bugatti Veyron as it pushes to 220 mph – Click above to watch video after the jump

Imagine, for a moment, that you own a Bugatti Veyron. Wouldn’t you be curious to find out what it feels like to swing past 200 miles per hour? (Okay, stupid question.) While an abandoned runway à la Top Gear would be ideal, one German man decided to break the 200-mph barrier on the infamous Autobahn.

Running up to 353 kilometers per hour – just a hair over 219 mph – is insane on any public road regardless of the vehicle used. But if there’s any car we’d want to push that hard on the Autobahn, the Veyron would be it.

In an effort to clear a path, this Veyron owner fixed a set of police lights to the car, so naturally, other motorists would move out of the way. If the excessive speed is legal on this stretch of German motorway, which we don’t know for sure, the flashing lights are certainly not. While it’s not as reckless as our favorite Russian commuter and his motorcycle ride through Moscow, it’s high on the list of things we don’t condone (yet enjoy watching as long as no one gets hurt). Follow the jump to check it out. Thanks for the tip, Marco!

Rumormill: Next Bugatti Veyron to hit 270 mph

Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Bugatti, Rumormill, Luxury

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

Bugatti is reportedly beginning work on the next generation Veyron, and rumor has it that they’re looking to hit Ludicrous Speed. Okay, maybe it won’t go quite that fast, but with a target of 270 miles per hour, it figures to be pretty darn close.

According to AutoExpress, despite losing money on each one it builds, Volkswagen Group has no plans to watch its mighty hypercar fade away, and the next version will stick to the business of shattering perceptions of what a production car can do. Reportedly, the 8.0-liter W16 engine and its quad-turbo setup will return in a similar form as is employed in the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. However, the new car will head to the scales and produce a number far below what we see in current Veyron models. It will achieve this through more extensive use of lightweight alloys and carbon-composite materials.

If AE is reading its tea leaves correctly, the new warp-speed Bugatti Veyron to make an appearance sometime in 2013.

Bugatti Veyron Super Sport with EVO's Chris Harris

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport reviewed by EVO’s Chris Harris – Click above to watch video after the jump

We know what resident lucky bastard Autoblog contributor Rex Roy thinks about the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Now we get another perspective on the hypercar courtesy of EVO magazine’s Chris Harris. His thoughts? Occasionally frustrating, yet worth every penny. Harris laments that he gets an amazing sensation of speed yet he has to be off the gas almost as quickly as he gets on it. The 267-mph Veyron Super Sport just moves too quickly for everyday situations.

Since it is Chris Harris behind the wheel, we’re treated to a nice patch-laying takeoff before he launches into a discussion of the car. The clip, which you can find after the jump, also treats us to a little over a minute of no talking… just footage of the car. Wonderful.
