Video: Translogic gets inside look at Terrafugia Transition flying car

Terrafugia Transition flying car

It was only a month ago when Terrafugia took its Transition flying car (or driving plane, as CEO Carl Dietrich says) to the EAA AirVenture show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, for some exposure and its first public flight demonstration. We know the flight was a success, but Translogic was also there to get an inside look at the street-legal flying machine and capture it on video.

Dietrich says that the toughest part of building the Transition was to engineer a single solution to satisfy both Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regulations. But the resultant vehicle raises the level of safety of personal aircraft through the use of automotive safety features, is better for the environment than traditional airplanes and will make use of the network of 5,000-plus public-use airports, “our nation’s largest underutilized transportation resource,” Dietrich states.

Be sure to watch the video below to find out what the future holds for flying cars – including Terrafugia’s next flying car/driving plane project, the gas-electric hybrid TF-X.

Video: Polaris RZR in spectacular Dukes Of Hazzard cliff-climb mishap

Filed under: Performance, Videos, Specialty, Off-Road

Bro drives a Polaris RZR up a cliff Dukes of Hazzard-style and then crashes back down.

If Bo Duke were still going at it today, he might have a buzz cut and drive an orange Polaris RZR, but he sure as Hell wouldn’t crash his ride – especially if Luke Duke were in the passenger seat. That said, this modern-day Dukes of Hazzard wannabe didn’t have his cousin riding shotgun, and maybe that’s a good thing. After driving his RZR side-by-side impressively far up the side of a cliff, he came tumbling back down – in the process losing his skateboard helmet and “pretzeling” the poor General Lee-themed Polaris.

While we’re all for having fun in motorized vehicles, let’s take something away from this stunt: A skateboard helmet is hardly enough head protection in a crash like this – especially if it falls off. We consider the driver to be very lucky to have walked away unscathed.

Watch the video below to see the cliff-climbing antics, but only if you’re prepared to deal with some Not Safe For Work explicit language.

2014 McLaren P1s at Top Gear Test Track

The crew at Jay Leno’s Garage have been pretty busy this week. Besides getting some face time with General Motors’ Ed Welburn and the Cadillac Elmiraj Concept, the funny man and his film crew managed to make off with the new Porsche 918 Spyder. Now, Jay and his team are in the UK to drive the new P1, visiting the McLaren Technical Center in Woking and heading out to the Top Gear test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome.

In case you’re wondering, yes, Jay is the first person outside of McLaren to drive the new hybridized hypercar, and not surprisingly is on the list to take delivery of one of the production models. As rumors swirled this past weekend about the P1’s blistering Nürburgring time, it’s exciting to see it lap another fan-favorite circuit The video offers a cool look inside the laboratory-like assembly line where the P1 is built, as well. Take a look below for the full video.

Official: 2013 GTA V Bravado Banshee is life imitating video-game art

Filed under: Performance, Etc., Toys/Games, SRT

2013 GTAV Bravado Banshee

Bravado BansheeEven though our first response was something along the lines of “It should have been the Cheetah,” we will admit that building a real-life version of a Grand Theft Auto V car is a pretty meta, pretty cool promotion.

Details on the Banshee’s mechanicals are pretty scarce, but the car has obviously been crafted using a Viper as its base (a fourth- or fifth-generation car seems likely). Created by the West Coast Customs shop of reality TV fame, the body panels of the Banshee were designed and cut to form a “screen accurate” replica of the in-game car (which is pictured in the inset photo). Even the interior of the vehicle has been customized to be gamer-friendly, with reconfigured dashboard, door panels and center console, as well as the Banshee name and insignia stitched on the seats.

Best of all, video game retailer GameStop is giving away the car as part of the promotion for GTA’s September 17 release. As if the title needed more publicity, right? Get a bit more info about the car in the press release below.
