Video: Carhenge monument becomes property of Alliance, NE

Carhenge in Alliance, Nebraska

Officials in Alliance, NE have recently voted to accept a pretty special gift. Previously offered for sale with a price tag of $300,000, the batty “Carhenge” landmark has been given to the town that it neighbors, hopefully ensuring its continued status as a going attraction for years to come.

Built in 1987 by one Jim Reinders, Carhenge is an automotive-themed tribute to Stonehenge that has been managed by a non-profit group for more than 20 years. That organization first offered the monument for sale, citing its ability to draw some 80,000 visitors per year. The sale price must have proven difficult to swallow, however, as it now seems that Alliance will take ownership for the cost of maintaining (and doubtlessly insuring) the tourist attraction.

Follow on below for a video describing Carhenge’s coolness, with some firsthand accounts of just how mystical the Nebraska attraction can be.

Video: Volvo Trucks’ president Claes Nilsson delivers the right hook

Filed under: Truck, Marketing/Advertising, Videos, Work, Volvo

Claes Nilsson, Volvo Trucks CEO

We’d like to think that most executives stand behind their products, especially cars and trucks where people’s lives are on the line. But Claes Nilsson has taken the principle one step further.

In this brief video clip, the president of Volvo Trucks doesn’t just stand idly by and watch the new Volvo FMX being put to the test. He stands on top of it as it is suspended from a crane at the port of Gothenburg, Sweden. It’s a sight to see, and aptly illustrates the point that Volvo trucks are built to withstand more than their design brief. See the one-take stunt for yourself in the video below, and be sure to watch the new “making of” video as well.

Video: Rush gets the Lego trailer treatment

Filed under: Motorsports, Videos, Toys/Games, TV/Movies

What is it with reenacting real life and movies in Lego? It is now practically its own form of cinema, with so many spoofs of so many events that there are Top Ten lists highlighting excellent pieces of work like this Lego trailer for Cars 2, the 2012 London Olympics, a hilarious Star Wars trilogy recap and a comedy bit of Darth Vader in the Death Star canteen.

Next, the overlords of the brightly colored little jarheaded fellows have turned their attention to the movie Rush, making a stop-motion version of the latest trailer for Ron Howard’s Formula One thriller. It’s everything you’ve seen before, only smaller, and made of plastic, and you can watch it below.

Video: 2014 Mercedes S65 AMG caught undisguised at video shoot

Filed under: Spy Photos, Sedan, Performance, Videos, Mercedes-Benz, Luxury

Spy screenshot of the 2014 Merecedes-Benz S65 AMG

Hot on the heels of a video showing Mercedes-Benz testing its 2014 S65 AMG sedan around the Nürburgring, here’s yet another glimpse of the German automaker’s luxury flagship sedan, which is set to go on sale in March of 2014. Though the new S65 AMG won’t be officially unveiled until this November’s LA Auto Show, eagle-eyed Gnepiah caught it naked on camera during a recent commercial shoot in the Netherlands.

The video shows a few exterior modifications as compared to the outgoing model, including more chrome on the front grille, shiny mesh on the front bumper, and new multi-spoke alloy wheels. But the most exciting change is one we can’t see: the S65 AMG’s 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, which is expected to produce more than the current model’s 621 horsepower and will certainly make for a quicker ride (as we previously noted, we could be looking at a run as quick as 3.6 seconds).

Watch the video below to see the new S65 AMG for yourself – and don’t miss the cameo of the 2014 S63 AMG at the end.

Video: Classic Rover Mini is a passion-inspiring plaything

Filed under: Classics, Budget, Performance, Videos, Hatchback, Mini, UK

1998 Rover Mini Paul Smith Special Edition

Ask anyone that’s driven a classic Mini, and they’ll probably tell you that their first reaction to driving it was a lot like the start of this video – whooping, shouting, laughing and a whole lot of smiling. This video, from Jon Quirk, editor-in-chief at Auto Trader UK, highlights the connection between him and his Rover Mini Paul Smith. He really nails the man-machine interface that makes owning a great car so much fun. Besides that, Quirk does a good job of enumerating what is so enjoyable about driving a fun car on a twisting road.

For our British readers, this video is also meant to test the waters for a new format from Auto Trader UK, called “I Bought One.” With Quirk’s Mini, the car-buying site is looking at telling the story of people and their interesting cars. We think this video is a great start, with high production value and solid content. Head on over to the YouTube channel, and let them know what you think. But first, scroll on down for the entire video on this awesome Rover Mini.
