Time to take our cars back from the robots – Click above to watch video after the jump

Computers are constantly gaining a foothold on the everyday tasks that occur in our lives, but there are some tasks we simply hold too dear to let go. Or are there?

Jeopardy has gone the way of the robot and Google has shown that cars can be controlled without a human taking the wheel. Continuing down this path could lead to a future where the vehicles on the road are being piloted by robots or computers. Dodge doesn’t want to see that day come, and it sends a shot right across the bow of SkyNet’s patrolling warships.

In a new commercial for the 2011 Dodge Charger, we’re given a glimpse into a world where technology is done creeping. It’s everywhere, and it affects all portions of our daily routine. One man has had enough, and decides to take back control of his vehicle (the fascia of which bears an eerie resemblance to the latest Charger). Cut to a shot of present day, and Dodge proclaims that robots “will never take our cars.”

That’s right, Dodge. Fight the evil robot overlords. Click past the jump to check out the clip.

Dodge Chargers get furious in Fast Five – Click above to watch video after the jump

Fast Five, the fifth installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise, hits theaters Friday, April 29th. Since we live in the age of instant gratification, you’re able to hunt down some of the key scenes and check out the furious action before you decide to plunk down your hard-earned bucks for a ticket. In order to facilitate the decision making process, a key chase scene has made its way to YouTube courtesy of the French arm of Universal Pictures.

We’ll let you decided whether or not you want to watch the clip posted after the jump. However, we will tell you that Dom (Vin Diesel) and Brian (Paul Walker) use a pair of pumped-up Dodge Chargers in a… unique capacity. The tow-rating on a 5.7-liter-equipped Charger is 2,000-pounds max, and even if you double that figure we’re pretty sure the director is employing a healthy scoop of automotive movie magic to shoot this scene. We’ll save the real sleuthing for a future episode of Mythbusters.

Click past the jump to watch three minutes and 44 seconds of Fast Five. It goes without saying that there are massive spoilers here, right? The audio is in French, but you shouldn’t have too much trouble figuring out what’s going on.

Nissan radiation testing in Japan

Nissan radiation testing – Click above to watch video after the jump

Japanese automakers are continuing to test their products for excessive radiation levels as they leave their respective manufacturing facilities and before they’re loaded onto container ships for transport. Nissan has released a video detailing the company’s radiation check system, which includes monitoring randomly-selected sample group vehicles in three key locations.

Workers measure levels at the vehicles’ wheels, the center of the hood and the steering wheel before handing out clean bills of health. So far, all of the company’s vehicles have passed without a problem.

Automakers began testing vehicles after the disaster at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant despite the fact that most manufacturing locations are situated well away from the ill-stricken facility. The video after the jump follows a few vehicles (including a 370Z and a GT-R) through the test procedure and onto a transportation vessel in port. Click past the jump to watch the full video for yourself. Thanks for the tip, Stephen!

Video: Lamborghini Aventador battles the apocalypse

2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 – Click above to view video after the jump

It’s hard to put into words why someone should buy a 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 without sounding like an energy drink-swilling high schooler. It’s just hard to describe its level of performance, styling and je ne sais quoi without using the hackneyed standbys like “epic” or “awesome” or “dude.”

That’s probably why Lamborghini isn’t really bothering with words. Instead, they’ve put together a three-minute clip of the Aventador thwarting a geological disaster to amply illustrate its appeal. Sure, it still doesn’t answer how you’re going to put groceries in it, or what kind of gas mileage it gets or how much it costs to insure, but if you’re still worried about those sort of mundane details, you’re a lost cause.

As if the video’s impressive CGI, magnificent driving and glamor shots of the new Lamborghini flagship weren’t enough, the clip ends with an apt way to describe the car. Check out the video after the jump. Thanks for the tip, Zachary!

Video: Repo Games reality show gives debtors chance to win their pink slips

repo games trailer

Repo Games trailer – Click above to watch the video after the jump

We’ve never had a car repossessed, but we imagine it’s a painful ordeal. That doesn’t mean that it won’t make a great game show, however, as the producers of Jersey Shore have created Repo Games. The premise is simple; real repo guys are taking real cars, but with a twist. If a vehicle owner/contestant answers three out of five questions correctly, the vehicle isn’t towed, and the winner gets to keep the vehicle outright.

Spike TV, which will air the show, says that people from all walks of life sometimes have trouble making their car payments. Still, we’re guessing that many of the show’s contestants will be hard-luck types. Hit the jump to watch the three-minute promo video. Many of the questions from the clip appear to be absurdly simple, though the answers aren’t always that easy to come by.

1958 Chevrolet Apache

Steam Whistle Brewing electric 1958 Chevrolet Apache – Click above to watchvideo after the jump

Steam Whistle Brewing is known for three things: making high-quality pilsner beer, a green-sensitive ethos and an awesome collection of ’50s, ’60s and ’70s American iron to haul their wares around. The latest addition to their stable is this very green 1958 Chevrolet Apache. The truck was originally motivated by the omnipresent General Motors small-block V8, but for a company with an eco-friendly mindset, that wasn’t going to cut it for long.

Instead, the guys at Steam Whistle teamed up with some local Vancouver, Canada mechanics and restorers to replace the truck’s fossil fuel-chugging guts with a brushless AC motor turning out an incredible 465 lb.-ft. of torque. That kind of motivation means this thing can ferry bedloads of brew to destinations all around Vancouver by day and then cruise the strip and shred tires with the best of them at night. The best part is Steam Whistle’s high-voltage Apache is nearly 100-percent carbon neutral, thanks to wind-generated charging. Click past the jump to see videos of the truck in action.

2011 Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale

2011 Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale – Click above for high-res image gallery or click here to watch video

The 2011 Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale is the regular GranTurismo’s crude, hairy-chested brother. It’s loud, muscle-bound and doesn’t make any apologies. With a 450-horsepower version of Maserati’s 4.7 liter V8 under the hood, its got the brawn to back up its big talk.

Despite its unruly demeanor and aerodynamic tweaks to the body, the fastest Maserati also manages to be as drop-dead gorgeous as its tamer stablemate. Now, there’s video of Maserati’s wild child tearing up the race track. The car looks poised and right at home, and sounds like Lucifer’s personal symphony at full blast. For the full five-minute immersion, check out the video after the jump.

Video: Beastie Boys “Make Some Noise” rocks the old-school metal

Filed under: Classics, Etc., Videos, Celebrities, Humor

Danny McBride, Seth Rogan, Elijah Wood in Beastie Boys Make Some Noise video

Danny McBride, Seth Rogan and Elijah Wood in “Make Some Noise” – Click above to watch video after the jump

The Beastie Boys are back, ladies and gentlemen, and they’ve brought along a suitably awesome video to announce their triumphant return. Danny McBride, Seth Rogan and Elijah Wood star alongside nearly every Hollywood actor of any account, including Steve Buscemi, Will Ferrell, Orlando Bloom and Will Arnett, to name but a handful.

That’s all well and good, but our fanboism has been kicked into overtime thanks to the riotous profundity of amazing metal in the clip.

The video seems to be set in the early ’80s, and as such, there are cameos by everything from an International Scout and a Toyota FJ40 to a killer Datsun pickup. Of course, the king of ’80s metal, the DeLorean DMC-12, also shows up for spell. We’d expect nothing less.

To top it all off, it sounds like the New York trio haven’t lost any of their talent for entertainment since The Mix-Up. Hit the jump to check out the video for yourself.

Crazy Russian parking job – Click above to watch the video after the jump

Parking can be the toughest part of any commute, unless of course you’ve gone to the Ken Block School of Parallel Precision. Beyond the jump is a very short clip a Russian driver who didn’t have time to turn around and park like the rest of us, so (we’re guessing) he jammed the parking brake at speed, spun 180 degrees and landed right where he needed to be.

This clip isn’t exactly new, but it’s new to us. Hit the jump to check it out. Thanks for the tip, Matt!

PS: Anyone else wonder if the driver might be related to this guy?
