Red Bull presents the 2011 Donkey Cross – Click above to watch video after the jump

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to cross the challenging world of motocross and walking donkeys? No? Neither have we. Red Bull, however, feels the two should be combined into one event. The result is Donkey Cross, and it recently took place in the hills of Makrinitsa, Greece.

Thirty riders from around the world converged in eastern Greece. The difficult terrain was the perfect place for the skilled two-wheelers to exercise their talents. We’re still not sure why the donkeys are involved, but no matter. There is video from the event and it’s waiting for you after the jump.

HD truck shootout

Chevy Silverado HD Truck Shootout – Click above to watch the video after the break

Back in the fall, our friends over at Pickuptrucks.com pitted the diesel-equipped Chevrolet Silverado HD against the oil-burning Ford Super Duty in a battle of high-altitude acceleration. Even though the Ford behemoth holds a slight edge in horsepower and torque, the Chevrolet beat the Blue Oval machine handily in the steep-grade acceleration challenge. We’d think General Motors would be satisfied with the results, but apparently The General needed to go a step further.

GM hired independent testers from AMCI to once again put up the Silverado HD against the Ford Super Duty, and this time the Ram HD was also invited along. Naturally, GM recorded the whole thing. The three trucks battled it out with a pair of 0-60 competitions, including one with a 1,500-pound payload, and again on a seven-percent grade with a 3,000-pound payload. That’s only the beginning, as the three trucks duked it out for supremacy in trailer sag, frame rigidity, passing power and braking. Since GM is broadcasting all seven competitions with a glut of Youtube videos, you can probably guess which truck reigns supreme. Still, the videos are entertaining and they’re hosted by the one and only Howie Long.

Hit the jump to watch all seven videos, followed by the GM press release. You’ll have to sacrifice about 30 minutes of your life to watch all seven, so if you want to pick and choose, we’ll go ahead and tell you that the two 0-60 tests are our favorites.

Special Cars 2 sneak peak – Click above to watch the videos after the jump

We can’t hide the fact that we’re pretty excited for Cars 2 to hit theaters June 24th, even if the extensive marketing efforts leading up to the premiere are a bit over the top. Over the weekend at WonderCon, movie promoters gave some very interested fans a sneak peak at what it’s like to be super sleuths, which jives with the movie’s spies theme.

The promoters placed three vehicles outside the convention wearing some crazy decals that directed folks to head to the Twitter account @ChromeLeaks. Once on the Twitter page, a link was provided to the Youtube video of a faux used car dealer commercial. The predictably cheesy commercial for “Cars N’ Deals of Emeryville” was purposely terribly done, but the 57-second mark revealed a very brief surprise. It was a link to a special sneak peak for the new Cars 2 movie. Sneaky, eh?

That’s a lot of work to do, even for a kick butt movie trailer, but you can skip the hassle and hit the jump to watch the videos. The first clip is the turd-tastic used car spot, followed by a very cool Cars 2 promo that reminds us of this scene from Back to the Future 2. Enjoy!

Cooper Tires' special diamond-encrusted rubber

Cooper’s special diamond tires – Click above to view video after the jump

Forget spinning rims and diamond-decked grills, bling has entered a new frontier: diamond-studded tires. You read that right. To celebrate the diamond anniversary of its partnership with the British Formula 3 series, Cooper Tires has unveiled a set of racing slicks with diamond-encrusted logos.

Cooper’s one-off set of bejeweled rollers was mounted on Rupert Svendsen-Cook’s Formula 3 ride for a photo op, but understandably didn’t see race duty. Cooper commissioned London jeweler JK Diamonds to customize the tires, which are jeweled with diamonds and Swarovski crystals. Each of the four Cooper logos was set with the gems and mounted to the tire with a super strong adhesive.

There’s no word yet on when this technology will make its way to your favorite set of rubber, but with bling in desperate need of a new horizon, we’re sure it won’t be long. Click past the jump to see a video of the tires being made. Hat tip to Yogesh!

Motorist Wendy Cobb on NBC's Today Show

Wendy Cobb NBC Today Show interview – Click above to watch video after the jump

The driver who very nearly filmed her own death has been interviewed by NBC’s Today Show after video of her shocking road debris accident went viral. Wendy Cobb of Shelby, North Carolina was driving on April 1 when the accident happened.

Cobb says she was using her cameraphone to film two trucks who were holding up traffic so she could report the incident. As Cobb turned her phone toward the road in front of her, the truck and trailer in front of her kicked up a 2×4 lying in the road that shattered the windshield of her Kia Sedona minivan and very nearly impaled her. Luckily, Ms. Cobb’s children weren’t with her when the accident happened, or the results may have been far more tragic. According Cobb, the only injury she received was a tiny glass cut. Damage to her car was limited to the hood and windshield.

Cobb says she hasn’t watched the video since the day of the accident, but has received plenty of emails from people who still think it was an April Fool’s prank – check out the video after the jump. Thanks for the tip, Adam!

Google Driverless Car

Google Driverless Car – Click above to view video after the jump

Sebastien Thurn has made it his life’s work to save one million lives from traffic accidents. Thurn has been instrumental in the development of Google’s DARPA Challenge-winning driverless car technology at Stanford University, and he’s confident that his technology can not only save lives, but eliminate traffic jams.

Thurn’s footage of a driverless Toyota Prius is nothing short of incredible, showing the cars successfully navigating deserts, highways and city streets clogged with traffic and pedestrians. So far, the driverless car’s most impressive journey has been from San Francisco to Los Angeles down Highway One.

Beyond just city and highway driving, Thurn has provided footage of the driverless Prius and a driverless Volkswagen Passat successfully navigating an autocross-style cones course, proving these cars can handle a wide range of driving styles. The cars function by employing a series of sensors to detect their environment, and use a computer program to respond to what’s going on around them.

Thurn was on hand at this year’s TED Conference to discuss the idea and show footage from 140,000 miles of driverless car tests conducted by Stanford. The TED Conference serves as a forum for innovative ideas, publishing video seminars and ideas year round, and hosting two in-person conferences per year. The foundation has been holding conferences and publishing content on a creative commons license since 1990. Check out the video after the jump.

Video: Putting the “Ford” in The Blue Oval’s new Ranger pickup

water testing the new ford ranger

Fording with the Ford Ranger – Click above to watch video after the jump

If you’re a Ranger fan, the video posted after the jump is going to make you sad. Ford engineers in Australia filmed the new but not-for-U.S.-consumption truck as its water wading capabilities were put to the test. The results were heaps good.

Ford’s new Ranger is available in a Hi-Rider version that’s capable of, ahem, fording through an impressive amount of water. Starting at a depth of two-inches, the engineers kept pushing until they were driving through 31.5 inches of engine-killing fluid. The two-inch deep pool is used to simulate long puddles, and the truck is run through at 19, 31 and 40 miles per hour. When filled to the max, the test area is traversed at a much slower 4 mph.

In order to achieve these results, Ford raised the air intake and alternator to a spot where they stay above the water line. Crucial components that sit lower are water-proofed. Click past the jump to see the testing in action, and be sure to read more about the Ranger in the full press release.

Porsche Carrera GT
Porsche Carrera GT loading fail – click above to watch video after the jump

The Carrera GT is among the most rare and exotic models Porsche has ever created. Production ceased way back in 2006, but if you want to pick up one of these five-year-old supercars, it will still cost you about $400,000 for the privilege. Having said that, if we owned a Carrera GT, we’d definitely handle it with white gloves on, and we would only trailer it in the most professional manner humanly possible.

Apparently not everyone is as careful with their rare exotic. The brief post-jump video features a beautiful silver Carrera GT that is being loaded onto a flatbed with a pair of unfastened planks that appear to be wood. We’re with you if your immediate thought is, ‘Why the heck would anyone do that?,’ but apparently the 15 or so people standing around the pricey Porsche didn’t feel compelled to tell the driver or the loaders. We’ve seen more careful packing of trucks crossing rivers on wood canoes in Bolivia. Hit the jump to watch on in horror.

Stig goes round and round in a London Taxi – Click above to watch video after the jump

Top Gear Live is the traveling version of the world’s greatest show about cars. Part of that extravaganza includes The Stig, and he likes to showcase his driving talents to the crowd. One thing that doesn’t require much skill, however, is a burnout. Supply Stiggy with a proper car, let him loose, and the result will be ruined tires, smoke and many cheering fans. Is it that easy if the car being used is a London Taxi?

It is when beneath the glossy black people-mover body sits a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. The result is far better than the Cash Cab, and we think the Stig agrees. Click past the jump to watch two clips of the Evo taxi in action. Thanks to all for the tips.

Road debris accident

Scary road debris accident – Click above to view video after the jump

Flying road debris is a scary enough prospect when you’re paying attention to the road and not filming the truck driving along beside you with a cameraphone. While we don’t think the driver could have reacted quickly enough to avoid the flying road debris at that distance if he weren’t busy recording, we certainly don’t advocate this sort of thing.

According to the video’s description, everyone inside the car was miraculously okay, though their nerves were no doubt more than a little frayed. According to a study by the American Automobile Association, 25,000 accidents like this one happen every year, and around 100 of those are fatal. Yikers. Take a deep breath, then follow the jump.
