Kobe Bryant saves the day in Smart Fortwo Brabus – Click above to watch the video after the jump

The Smart brand, looking for a sales lift in China, has enlisted the lanky likes of Kobe Bryant for its “Big, In The City” ad campaign. A newly released video has the internationally known NBA star assuming the role of a quick thinking/driving man of both style and action with a keen sense of aim.

With the aid of a shiny black Smart Fortwo Brabus that he – or perhaps a stunt double – throws around corners and through traffic, Kobe comes to the aid of a damsel in distress with flair as he chases down an art thief and utilizes his on-court abilities to administer a chase-ending coup de grâce.

The campaign will reportedly undertake a 25-city Chinese road trip, the highlight of which is an appearance by the Los Angeles Lakers star at a Smart customer party in July. Hit the jump for some Smart Brabus and Bryant action.

Video: Inflatable car seat is cheap, convenient… but is it safe?

easy car seat

Easycarseat inflatable – Click above to watch the video after the jump

Just about every time we go through airport security, we notice there is at least one family that has to lug their bulky car seat through the airport, dropping a trail of Cheerio crumbs as they go. And then there is the coworker in your lunch carpool that has a kid, which means everyone must stand outside the car, rain or shine, while he or she removes the seat and jams it in the trunk.

A company has invented an inflatable seat that should theoretically relieve some of these problems. The Easycarseat is inflatable seat that can handle children ages four and older from 33 to 79 pounds. The seat, which inflates in under a minute, only costs about $90, weighs about two pounds and can be folded for storage whenever a mom or dad needs it for travel.

An inflatable car seat just doesn’t sound safe, but the company insists it has already met all applicable U.S. and European safety standards. The seat also features a pressure release valve that prevents the seat from popping in the event of an accident.

We’re not so sure we’d opt for a blowup car seat for everyday use, but for anyone doing a lot of air travel or car hopping, this seat seems like a real luggage-saver. Hit the jump to view a one-minute demo, and stay for the crash test footage.

Steve Meade Designs Tahoe

Steve Meade Designs’ phone book-shredding Chevrolet Tahoe – Click above to view videos after the jump

There’s ridiculous bass, and then there’s this madness. Steve Meade Designs is a custom car audio shop that specializes in the kind of audio systems that require 10 batteries and three alternators to run. This clip features Meade’s own 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, and its compliment of four 18-inch subwoofers, backed by a total of 13 amps and 26 smaller speakers, including 10 6.5-inch mids, and 10 one-inch tweeters.

The result of all that firepower directed at four 18-inch woofers is a phone book-shredding bass attack. We don’t mean phone book-shredding in the figurative sense, either. As the videos after the jump clearly show (hint: fast-forward first video to 3:00), Steve Meade Designs has built a stereo system so powerful it can shred your average metropolitan phone book to bits in minutes. Just think about what it’ll do to your ear drums.

Epic Meal Time makes meat cars

Epic Meal Time Meat Cars – Click above to view video after the jump

Working cars into your daily diet used to be a bit of a challenge, unless you regularly consume race car birthday cakes or something. That is, until now. The Canadian YouTube sensations at Epic Meal Time have solved your car guy culinary crisis with their latest creation: meat cars.

The body of the meat car is something like a highly modified sherpherd’s pie, but instead of corn, they used macaroni and cheese. Bacon permeates everything the team does, from the ground beef and bacon skin of the shepherd’s pie, to the beer and bacon grease batter, to the bacon grease buttery mashed potatoes.

Keeping things rolling along is a set of four salami wheels wrapped in onion tires and garnished with a healthy dose of chrome. These may be cars made of meat, but they do actually roll. Top that off with a candy (yes, actual candy) paint job, and you have a stylin’, 23,266 calorie meat ride. Mildly NSFW language in the video after the jump.

Video: Watch split-screen action of 2011 Nissan GTR vs. Corvette ZR1

chevrolet corvette zr1 versus nissan gtr at the nurburgring

Click above to watch the video after the jump

Last week we told you about the fresh, faster Nürburgring track times of the Nissan GTR, with video that proves that Godzilla 2012 managed to shave 2.48 seconds off its best lap. We were under the impression that the GTR’s new top time wasn’t enough to best the Corvette ZR1, but a side-by-side (or rather a top-to-bottom) comparison video of both runs gives us the definitive answer.

Beyond the jump is a video pitting the in-car camera view of the ZR1 (top screen) versus the 2012 GTR (bottom screen). Pay close attention from the five minute mark to about 6:20 into the clip, as the vehicle with the lead loses it for good at this point in the race. Very entertaining little competition, but you’ll have to hit the jump and watch to see the winner for yourself.

The Mustang family tested head-to-head – Click above to watch video after the jump

The crew over at Inside Line has manged to put together a test that any auto enthusiast should be eager to read about. Ford’s entire lineup of Mustangs has something unique to offer, and IL wrangled up one of each different ‘Stang on offer: V6, GT, Boss 302 Laguna Seca and Shelby GT500. In the end, there can be only one…

All four cars were flogged on a pair of tracks, including the 1.6-mile loop at Streets of Willow. The finishing order based on lap times was predictable, but the numbers are impressive across the board. Also, Inside Line didn’t choose its winner based solely on fastest time around the track. Click past the jump to watch the cars in action, then be sure to head over to Inside Line to read about the results.

2012 BMW M5 – Click above to watch the video after the jump

As of now, we’ve seen plenty of photos and footage of the upcoming 2012 BMW M5, and now the grandaddy of videos has just been released. This time, BMW has leaked nearly 30 minutes of the M5 undergoing cold weather testing in the Alps. There’s plenty of everything here, from nice stills to rolling footage of the upcoming M car bounding through the snow.

The F10 M5 is rapidly approaching its debut, first at a private BMW press conference at the end of this week, then at the Shanghai Motor Show in mid-April. We already know that the car will have a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 replacing the outgoing car’s V10, and Americans will still be able to get a traditional stick shift. We’re ready, BMW. Hop the jump for the video.

Russian drifters take on Moscow’s streets – Click above to watch video after the jump

Fans of drifting can be found all over the globe. The sport started in Japan and has quickly spread around the world, including a recent Formula Drift stop in Abu Dhabi. In fact, drifting seems to have taken hold in a land as far away as Russia. As an aside, if you search for “russian drifting” on Google, the first few links are for monitoring ice flows. But we digress…

A pair of sideways-driving enthusiasts have taken to the Moscow streets with their rubber-destroying machines to prove that drifting is alive and well in Russia. Shot in high-definition, this is no shaky Flip cam-shot clip but rather a surprisingly well done video of two drivers taking control of their cars. Check it out by clicking past the jump.

Cadillac ATS spied on GM’s proving grounds – Click above to watch the video after the jump

We’re likely a year away from the reveal of the Cadillac ATS, as the rumormill states that the rear-drive Caddy will likely go on sale in fall of 2012. We’ve seen plenty of spy photos of the sub-CTS Cadillac, as well, and now we’ve got a video that shows the entry-level ATS in motion.

The post-jump video, which comes courtesy of the folks at ATS Forums, appears to have been shot from the branch of a tree outside of General Motors’ proving grounds in Milford, Michigan. It’s difficult to see much in the video due to the heavy camo adorning the prototype, but we do see a more steeply raked windshield and a greenhouse that, compared to that of the CTS, appears to be a bit more rounded.

As an added bonus, the video shows a three second-long glimpse of the Buick Regal GS at the 1:34 mark. Hit the jump to take in the video for yourself. There may not be any audio, but there’s plenty to see.

Hinson Motorsports 2011 Texas Mile crash

Hinson Motorsports crash at the 2011 Texas Mile – Click above to view video after the jump

Over the weekend, we showed you a horrifying series pf pictures from Hinson Motorsports’ 230-mile-per-hour crash at the Texas Mile. The tuner’s twin-turbo Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was trying to break its own 224-mph standing-mile record for Corvettes when something went badly awry.

Even now, nobody’s quite sure what caused the nearly 2,000-horsepower Vette to go airborne, but it did, rolling several times before coming to rest on its wheels. The new video after the jump offers multiple perspectives on the crash as it happened, and it looks much more violent in the videos than it did in the earlier video footage and stills we saw.

Once again, the driver somehow managed to walk away from the crash unharmed, and Hinson has promised to come back with another entry in the Fall.
