Video: Camaro ZL1 gets seen, heard by Motor Trend

Chevrolet has called the Ford Mustang franchise’s Boss 302 and Shelby GT500 and raised the stakes by one supercharger. The obvious aim of the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is to silence all the critics who flame the Camaro for being slower than the 5.0-liter competition from Ford.

To cure their case of horsepower envy, Chevrolet threw a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA making more than 550 horsepower between the Camaro’s fenders. That power theoretically puts it atop even the mighty GT500 in a straight line.

To make sure the Camaro could take down the handling-oriented Boss 302 as well, they cribbed the magnetic dampers from the Corvette ZR1 for the ZL1. All that effort should add up to not only the fastest Camaro ever built, but the best-handling, as well. We can’t wait to get our mitts on the car, but in the meantime, we’ll slake our curiosity by hearing the LSA briefly come to life in the video after the jump (Warning: Auto play).

James Glickenhaus’s P4/5 Competizione made its debut at the Nürburgring this weekend ahead of the actual running of the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The test sessions reportedly went well and got as much hype and attention (yep, we’re guilty as charged…) as anything Glickenhaus’s now-famous racer does.

The P4/5 Competizione looked right at home on the track, though tests were cut short after a red flag limited driver Luca Cappellari to one lap. Mika Salo got plenty of seat time though, and the car looks just about ready for competition.

There aren’t any concrete lap times yet, but best guesses are in the 8:30 range, which would put the P4/5 Competizione right where it needs to be. Click past the jump for videos from the test weekend, and be sure to check out the latest set of images of the exquisitely beautiful showpiece below.

Lamborghini delivered one of the first of its latest Aventador supercars to a dealership in Berlin recently, blocking traffic and generating quite a crowd on a busy street. Despite some awkward maneuvers in busy traffic, nobody seemed to care… at least not once the Aventador’s 7.0-liter V12 fired.

The best part of the clip by far is the Aventador’s hostile cackle, even without turning much above idle through the entire video. In spite of it being shot in grainy medium-resolution, the latest big Lambo looks as good out in public as it does all gussied up for the auto show circuit. Marcus Grönholm put on an impressive display at the inaugural Global RallyCross Championship by winning both races, but one of the more talked about happenings of the weekend was a spectacular crash by Jimmy Keeney in his Subaru Impreza WRX STI.

Matched up with Hyundai driver Marcus Dodd in the Friday elimination rounds, Keeney had lost ground and was trying to make up time when he came up short for the 70-foot jump. The result was that the back end of the Subaru catapulted over the front, flipping end-over-end twice before finally landing on its side with smoke pouring from under the hood. Fortunately, Keeney climbed out of the wreckage unhurt, but the same couldn’t be said for the car.

With ESPN covering the event and plenty of photographers on hand, there was bound to be some good footage of the event. Sharp shooter John Rettie has been kind enough to let us publish his photos of the wreck, and we’ve also embedded a video of the crash after the jump.

Heads up, moto mavens; king of the BMW hoons Chris Pfeiffer has worked up a quick video to teach the world how to execute a proper wheelie. If anyone should know about taking the front tire off of the ground, it’s Pfeiffer, who currently spends his days inflicting world-class abuse on BMW’s best hardware in front of enthralled crowds.

Once you make it through all of the “do not try this at home” warnings in the how-to video, you just might learn how to send your bike’s nose skyward without bouncing yourself off the pavement. Pfeiffer covers all of the intricacies of throttle and rear brake application to impart some of the knowledge he’s accumulated as BMW’s ultimate two-wheeled hooligan. Over the weekend, we told you about the Hinson Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette Z06 that flipped at a mind-bending 230 miles per hour. Amazingly, the driver wasn’t seriously hurt, and we were happy to see that at least one enterprising camera man took photos of the wreck.

But seriously, folks, if cars are going 230 miles per hour, someone should be getting video, right? At least one person was, and although the video is a bit rough (read: very rough), you can clearly see a speeding bullet dressed up as a Vette rolling near top speed. Amazingly, the jazzed-up Z06 appears to roll but one time before landing back on its wheels and spinning to safety. Is that a Corvette or a cat? Hit the jump to watch the video for yourself. A man in Bloomfield Township, Michigan was trying to start his 1974 Lamborghini Espada when the car caught fire in the garage of a house he had just sold. Thankfully the man was unhurt and was able to get his mother and dog out of the house before the fire gutted the lower level and garage.

The new owner had closed on the house a week earlier. Firefighters said the first floor of the house was a total loss and the second story sustained heavy smoke damage. The classic Lambo was toast. Nobody’s sure what exactly caused the car to ignite, but we’d guess carburetors and notoriously faulty electronics have something to do with it. Video: Two-time WRC champ Gronholm takes day one victory at Global Rally Cross

Global Rally Cross kicked off its inaugural even yesterday at Irwindale Speedway. Drivers raced in bracket-style competition on a mixture of dirt and gravel stages. Competitors each ran events in two and four-wheel-drive cars.

Marcus Gronholm sealed victory at the wheel of a 550-horsepower Ford Fiesta in the all-wheel-drive round, beating out Swedish star Michael Jernberg in second and Formula Drift superstar (and U.S. Top Gear host) Tanner Faust in third.

Gronholm’s victory shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who watched him drive WRC cars in the early 2000s. For his part, Gronholm wasn’t too shocked either, and attributed his victory in part to experience with motocross. Check out video of the event after the jump.

Welcome to the Netherlands, where the houses are all perfect – almost to a Truman Show level of creepiness – and everyone, without exception, drives a Ferrari. Most people seem to own at least two. At least, that’s what the Netherlands looks like when a Ferrari club rents a bunch of vacation bungalows for a group gathering.

The video shows a solid collection of 575s, California Spiders, 430s and 599s, with some 308s and a Boxer thrown in for good measure. Imagine the glorious sound that erupts in the morning when everyone leaves… Hit the jump for a walkthrough of the fantasyland.

The internal rivalry between Mercedes GP Petronas drivers Nico Rosberg and the legendary Michael Schumacher is famous. They race almost as hard against each other as they do everyone else on the track, and exist in a world of tense equilibrium between teammates’ friendly competition and bitter rivalry.

Mercedes-Benz has released a new clip that makes light of the rivalry while delivering a sharp message about this year’s focus. After Rosberg and Schumacher go back and forth, each ordering the other a progressively expensive and more impressive bottle of champagne, Mika Häkkinen shows up to focus the pair.

The Finnish F1 legend orders both drivers a Red Bull, offering a not-so-subtle clue as to who Merc’s gunning for this year. Webber and Vettel, you have been warned. Watch it all after the jump.
