Video: Hot Wheels builds world’s highest wall track

world's highest hot wheels wall track

Any self-proclaimed Hot Wheels fanatic has surely built some sort of wall track in their house, but, like the ones from our childhoods, we’re guessing it never involved repelling down the side of a seven-story building. Back in May, Hot Wheels built an epic wall track on the side of an apartment building, and now the toy maker has released a video of the track, which it claims is the world’s highest.

Constructed for the BCN Fan Fest during the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, the repeating sections of track were assembled on the ground and then raised into place where they were connected to each other. Oddly, no official height was given for the track, but you can scroll down to watch a video of it being built and, of course, used. The video is in Spanish, but the thrill of rolling tiny cars down a huge track is universal.

Video: Autocar pits McLaren MP4-12C against turbo Toyota GT86

Autocar pits a Toyota GT86 Turbo against a McLaren MP4-12C on track.

The Toyota GT86, in all of its forms, is one of the best-handling cars money can buy, a trait that can put a smile on the faces of all but the most jaded car enthusiasts. But if good handling isn’t what they’re looking for, then what is? Our first guess would have to be more power, something the 200-horsepower Toyota would benefit from. Autocar tries out that theory by driving two turbocharged GT86s on track, then pitting the more powerful one against the 616-hp McLaren MP4-12C in a track battle.

The first GT86 turbo Autocar‘s Steve Sutcliffe drives makes around 255 rear-wheel horsepower and a bucket-load more torque than the stock car. That’s plenty of power to either have a lot of fun or get into a lot of trouble. But the GT86 that Sutcliffe tails in the McLaren is race-prepped, stripped to the bone and wears slicks to harness a heavy-hitting 335 hp at the wheel. Weighing in at under 2,500 pounds, the Toyota can’t overcome the MP4-12C’s power-to-weight ratio of 5.3 pounds per horsepower, but it comes pretty close.

Enjoy a lot of chasing and drifting fun in the video below!

Video: New Odyssey ads feature Honda Vac, star power

2014 Honda Odyssey HondaVac commercial

Honda has released a string of new ads highlighting its refreshed, 2014 Odyssey minivan. While the Japanese brand hasn’t started bragging about attaining the first Top Safety Pick+ for minivans, it’s all too happy to brag about another first – the world’s first van with a built-in vacuum cleaner.

In three spots, anthropomorphic children’s rubbish discusses the merits of the new minivan, only to be sucked up by the built-in vacuum, which is only available in the top-end Touring Elite model. There’s also quite a bit of star power floating around for those that watch a lot of TV. Neil Patrick Harris from Doogie Howser, MD and How I Met Your Mother voices a character in one of the spots, while Rainn Wilson from The Office stars in another. Take a look below for all three ads from Honda.

Video: Official trailer for Grand Theft Auto V steals our attention

Grand Theft Auto V Trailer

If there was any doubt that the latest installment of the Grand Theft Auto franchise wouldn’t be good, we’re pretty certain the game’s official trailer, just released by Rockstar Games, will be enough to erase it from the collective minds of the public. We’ve got the one-minute launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto V, and it shows everything from the cinematic sequences and arguments among the crew to some of the heists that players will be able to undertake.

We’ve followed GTAV rather obsessively since word of the game first broke out, and every piece of it that we see gets us more and more excited for the eventual product. The game’s three protagonists get plenty of face time in this trailer, which shows that they’ll all have some actual depth, rather than the recyclable, generic backstories of previous GTA heroes.

Just in case you need another reminder, Grand Theft Auto V will hit stores on September 17, and will be available on both Microsoft and Sony gaming consoles. Take a scroll down below for the official launch trailer.

Video: Viper beat again, this time by less powerful Corvette Stingray

Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Videos, Chevrolet, SRT

Edmunds compares the Viper and the Corvette Stingray and finds that the Corvette beats the Viper in the majority of tests.

Alright, there’s no way the 455-horsepower Chevrolet Corvette Stingray beat the 640-hp SRT Viper, you say. Well, you’re partially right. Edmunds ran them down a quarter-mile drag strip and the Viper did it in 11.72 seconds at 124.09 miles per hour to the Stingray’s 12.39 seconds at 113.73 mph. The Viper did 0-60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds compared to the the Corvette’s 4.1-second run. But the Chevrolet definitely pulled above its weight, and we see once again that horsepower doesn’t mean everything after it beats the Viper in the other three tests.

The Corvette and Viper have long been arch nemeses, and SRT head Ralph Gilles had the Viper TA built after the Corvette ZR1 handily beat it by two seconds at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this year.

But no matter the test, if it isn’t in a straight line, Edmunds shows that the new base Corvette can outdo the Viper with much less horsepower. On the skidpad with narrower tires, the Stingray pulled 1.05 g compared to the Viper’s 1.01 g. The Viper’s horsepower advantage couldn’t overcome the Corvette’s predictable handling in the slalom test, where the V10-powered SRT maxed out at 72 mph to the Corvette’s 73.5 mph. Edmunds‘ Chris Walton describes the Corvette’s brakes as out of this world, able to stop it from 60 mph in 99 feet. The Viper does that in 110 ft.

The never-ending Viper vs. Corvette showdown continues, and it seems Chevy’s newest sports car has the fundamentals down pat – just add power. Edmunds didn’t pick an overall winner – we think a track test will solve that. But the video we included below is an early glimpse into the new Corvette’s performance potential, and so far we like the look of it.

Video: Cadillac Elmiraj Concept slinks in Leno’s Garage

Jay Leno, Ed Welburn and the Cadillac Elmiraj Concept

Jay Leno’s Garage has moved to Pebble Beach for the week. This time around, the affable comedian is taking a look at the Cadillac Elmiraj Concept that debuted during the Monterey car week, and is talking to General Motors vice president of global design, Ed Welburn.

There’s plenty of reminiscing about what concept cars were like when these two were kids, before a fairly deep dive into the striking Elmiraj Concept itself. Welburn shares a few anecdotes about the design process behind the two-door concept, including how his designers changed his mind on the grille design.

After bringing up the Cimarron, Leno makes a solid point that the Elmiraj would be a solid production car that could even spawn a four-door variant. We couldn’t agree more. Take a look below for the full video from Jay Leno’s Garage.

Video: Nissan recruits Stormtroopers to promote Juke in Japan

Nissan Juke configurator

The Juke is a matter of individual taste, to be sure, but Nissan is keen on making each one even more individual with the launch of the 15RX Personalized Package.

Nissan is promoting the customization available on the Juke in the Japanese Domestic Market with a dedicated website, complete with a rather slick online configurator. And to make the process that much more engaging, it’s included a Stormtrooper that changes in appearance along with the Juke. Which is fitting, seeing as how the quirky crossover looks like it belongs in a Star Wars movie as it is.

The package is being launched together with a new Star Wars-themed publicity campaign that is building an array of web movies, the latest of which you can view below, along with the press release that details the full campaign.

Video: Toyota releases its Le Mans recap, ‘The Ultimate Endurance Race’

Filed under: Motorsports, Videos, Toyota, Racing

Two weeks ago, Audi released its short video about this years 24 Hours of Le Mans, and now Toyota has put the experience into its own words and pictures. Called The Ultimate Endurance Race, the clip and accompanying press release focus on how hybrid power helped Toyota claim second and fourth places with the TS030 Hybrid in just its second year competing at Le Mans.

There are some brief scenes of the battles had this year, like when Lucas di Grassi in the Toyota almost kissed Allan McNish in the Audi above, but the best part might be when Toyota promises it will be back. Next year, it’s gonna be good. You’ll find the relevant words and the images just below.

Video: Redline debuts with Battle of Motorsports in first episode

Filed under: Motorsports, Videos, Australia, Racing, Comparisons

The first episode of Redline, a new automotive web video, pits seven racecars from different backgrounds against each other.

What do you get when you mix YouTube and Ketzal Sterling of the High Octane DVD series? Another web-video series about high-performance cars with a motorsport twist and juvenile humor. Redline is the newest show by Sterling, and the man devised an epic shootout of seven seriously quick race machines for the first episode.

The catch is that each of the vehicles represents a different motorsport background. Machines that make an appearance include a Super Touring Ford V8; Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution rally car; S14.5-generation time attack Nissan Silvia; Suzuki GSX-R1000 motorcycle; FC-generation Mazda RX-7 drift car (with V8 swap); Subaru WRX STI gymkhana car; and KZ2-class shifter kart.

While the inclusion of one of the entries virtually gives away the winner, we won’t spoil it for you. And it might be closer than you think. Scroll down to watch the Battle of Motorsports episode, which has some substance and is enjoyable if you can put up with the humor and obnoxiously loud narration.

Video: Watch and hear Renault’s awesome Twin’Run driven in anger

Filed under: Concept Cars, Performance, Videos, Hatchback, Renault

We’re a little tardy in getting to this, but the engine notes will make up for the delay. When Renault revealed the Twin’Run concept at the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix earlier this Summer, it didn’t reveal much of the engine note. This was an appalling shame, since the not-road-legal Renault 5 revival had a mid-mounted, race-tuned Nissan V6 that could soar to a practically unsilenced 7,000 rpm.

A few members of the auto journo cabal have corrected that, Top Gear being one of them by including the Twin’Run in its Speed Week festivities. Calling it “deafening, smelly, brilliant,” the verdict of Sam Phillip was that it “makes every car on Top Gear’s Speed Week… feel as woolly and distant as a tumble-dried sheep.” Them’s pointed words when “every other car” includes metal like the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series.

You’ll can check out Top Gear‘s run around the Charade Circuit in France below. We’ve also included a longer clip of the Twin’Run doing some dynamic testing (worth it for the 360-degree-stunt alone), and an in-depth piece from Autoweek Holland.
