Hyundai Azera/Grandeur caught running down the highway – Click above to watch video after the jump

We’ve seen spy photos of it running through Europe and renderings of what it will look like unmasked. Now we have clear footage of the 2012 Hyundai Azera/Grandeur as it rolls down the highway. The lines stay very true to what we saw in the rendering and the result is a uniquely-Hyundai, stylish full-size sedan. The big Hyun’s ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language comes through without being shoved in one’s face and the overall aesthetic of the car is quite appealing, with a look that reminds us of a slightly larger and more refined Sonata.

We’re really looking forward to seeing this one in the flesh, but for now all we have is the video that is waiting for you after the jump. Thanks for the tip, Paulo!

Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera Video

Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera chases a Porsche 911 GT3 through Paris – Click above to watch video after the jump

Before we go salivating all over the thought of two of Europe’s best and brightest going the distance through the City of Lights, we should probably start off with an obligatory “don’t try this at home.” The kids you see sliding around the Parisian streets in the video after the jump are trained professionals working in a semi-controlled environment, so do us all a favor and keep your reenactments confined to your Need For Speed marathons.

That said, the video is a well-shot interpretation of what a full lap of Paris might look like as a Porsche 911 GT3 and a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera go fender-to-fender. Our early money was on the Raging Bull strolling away with the checkered flag, but Stuttgart’s finest seemed to have no problem keeping the big bad Italian behind its winged tail-end as the two snake around the French capitol. Hit the jump to see the action for yourself.

Video: Dario Franchitti drives Jim Clark’s legendary ’65 Lotus at Indy

Dario Franchitti drives Jim Clark's Lotus

Dario Franchitti drives Jim Clark’s legendary Lotus 38 – Click above to watch video after the jump

We’re sure that open-wheel hero Dario Franchitti has managed to realize quite a few of his four-wheeled dreams over the years, but he’s only just managed to top them all with a drive of Jim Clark’s legendary Lotus 38, a car that Clark piloted to victory in the 1965 Indy 500.

Franchitti, like Clark, was born in Scotland and the two share a love of going fast. Jim Clark’s Lotus 38, with its four-cam V8 pumping out around 500 horsepower, is a very different vehicle then the modern day IndyCar that Franchitti pilots for Chip Ganassi Racing. Regardless, the Lotus is a pure racing machine and a true piece of motorsports history, and it’s a treat to listen to Dario discuss his experience behind the wheel of the Lotus. His insight is important but his excitement is palpable – this is a rare opportunity and he appears to treat the opportunity with the appropriate level of respect and admiration for Clark and Lotus.

How’d this all come to pass? Dario Franchitti, working together with Road & Track, reached out to The Henry Ford Museum, Lotus Cars USA and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to make this event happen. It’s all captured on the video after the jump, and it’s just the first in a series of events designed to celebrate the Indy 500. In the near future, we will get to see Bobby Rahal drive the 1912 winning National and Sam Posey hop behind the wheel of Roger Ward’s 1962 Leader Card Special.

For now however, it’s all about Franchitti in Clark’s Lotus 38 at the Brickyard. Stop reading and start watching (and listening!) by clicking past the jump.

Video: Car and Driver gets bored, does doors-up donuts in Benz SLS AMG

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG donuts

2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG – Click above to watch the video after the jump

To some, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is a demure looking beast, but don’t let the classy lines fool you. Beneath that long, elegant nose is a 6.2-liter, 563 horsepower AMG V8 that propels the top Benz to supercar status. But while the SLS can hold its own on the race track against some of the world’s finest automobiles, it also has the punch to take on low-brow muscle cars at their own game.

While the folks at Car and Driver no doubt have the resources to hit the track, they instead opted to take the SLS AMG out for some donuts. We’re not talking polite, single turn donuts, either. This is the kind of donut that leads to a fast trip to the tire store for some very expensive Continental ContiSportContact rubber. And just for kicks (and visual flair), the C/D gang has left its gullwing doors ajar for maximum tire smoke inhalation. Hit the jump to watch the tire-shredding action for yourself.

V24 Detroit Diesel

24-cylinder Detroit Diesel madness: Click above to watch the video after the jump

Want to see something really crazy? How about a 24-cylinder Detroit Diesel engine with twelve giant blowers, all polished up and ready for its new assignment. For what it’s worth, its previous assignment was providing the motive force necessary to spin the propeller of a ocean-going yacht.

And its new assignment? Nestled tightly within the confines of a Peterbilt semi truck, mated up to an Allison transmission of some sort and mounted on a custom-built 40-foot-long chassis. Sounds pretty epic to us, and we’re thinking that 3,424 horsepower (our feeble brains are telling us it should have well over 5,000 pound-feet of torque…) ought to be just about enough.

And the man behind the madness? That would be Big Mike, the burly bearded millionaire you can read about in detail right here. Nicely done, Mr. Harrah. Hit the jump to see a video of this ridiculous piece of machinery make its first dyno run.

Video: Lamborghini Murcielago production end honored with V12 parade

Lamborghini Parade

Click above to watch video after the jump

After nine years and 4,099 examples produced, the Lamborghini Murciélago has reached the end of its production cycle. A new V12-equipped Lambo is on the horizon, but before that beast roars to life the Italian automaker decided to take its resident raging bull for one more lap through Sant’Agata Bolognese.

Not content to trot the Murciélago out alone, Lamborghini also lined up a 350 GT, Miura, Countach and Diablo to escort the Super Veloce. Baby-brother Gallardo also gets in on the parade action by means of the local polizia. The whole affair was captured on video and, while it might not be action packed, it is packed with beautiful and exotic examples of Lamborghini’s history.
Hop the jump to watch the Murciélago take on final victory lap through its hometown.

NYC DOT speed limit PSA spots – Click above to watch the videos
You might honestly think that the speed limit in Manhattan is “whatever you can crank it up to between red lights.” That’s wrong, and the New York City Department of Transportation wants you to know that it’s 30 mph.

More than that, however, the NYC DOT wants you to know why it’s 30 mph, and has put a series of amusing ads into rotation to deliver the message that a pedestrian hit at that speed has an 80 percent chance of survival, versus the 70 percent chance of dying a human clobbered at 40 mph faces. The commercials start with an unlikely character expounding on a subject you wouldn’t expect before the speed limit question is posed by the omniscient voiceover. Check out the humorous PSA spots for yourself after the jump.

2012 Audi A6 teaser video screencap
Audi A6 teaser – Click above to watch the video after the jump

Audi has made no secret about its plan to become the world’s largest luxury automaker by volume by 2015, but the Four-Ringed automaker can’t take on BMW and Mercedes-Benz without new product. Over the past few years, Audi has been doing exactly that, launching new and revised models at a breakneck pace. The A5 and R8 were introduced in 2008, followed by the new A4, A8 and the soon-to-arrive A7. Meanwhile, the midsize A6 has soldered on mostly with little more than a refresh, though it has aged gracefully, beating far newer rivals from its main German rivals in a handful of key comparison tests.

That relative stagnancy changes for the 2012 model year with a completely new A6. We’re sketchy on details to this point, but the newest Audi sedan is just beginning its striptease. Beyond the jump is a very curious sneak peak of the A6, with very blurry images that leave a lot to the imagination. All we can discern from the 23 seconds of smeared video are some interesting-looking blue LED lights and the fact that the unveiling will continue on December 1. Hit the jump to watch the video for yourself. You won’t see anything truly revealing, but if you’re a fan of the A6, that probably won’t stop you from taking a peek.

General Motors Ad

General Motors takes one on the chin but gets back up, thanks to us – Click above to watch video after the jump

General Motors is trying hard to move forward after everything that has happened in the last few years. The auto giant would not be here without the help of the government and the hard-working taxpayer. In a brand-new 60-second holiday ad spot, The General shows us that people and things can fall down or fail, but they get back back up… even if they need help doing so.

A boxer gets knocked down, a rocket falls back to its launch platform, Popeye almost drowns and Evel Knievel lands on his back instead of his bike. Each situation looks rocky but turns out okay in the end. GM shows these clips and then acknowledges its own fall while also thanking us (i.e. taxpayers) for picking it back up.

The clip is heavy on the schmaltzy side, but it’s nice to think General Motors realizes who kept it in business. While we’d prefer some stock, a simple “thank you” message will have to do for now. You can see the ad for yourself by clicking past the jump and giving it a look.

Ferrari 458 Italia vs Ducati 1198S

Ferrari 458 Italia vs Ducati 1198S – Click above to watch video after the jump

Italy produces machines that look good rolling slow or screaming towards the ever evasive horizon, so it’s no surprise that Motor Trend decided to pit two of the boot country’s finest against each other: the Ferrari 458 Italia and the Ducati 1198S. Both are exotic machines with a laser-focus purpose crafted into each example built: Be. Fast.

The buff book boys were kind enough to have their cameras rolling as the 458 and 1198S faced off in two competitions. First up is a head-to-head race followed by a lap around the Streets of Willow. The result? While the Ferrari is an amazing machine, the Duc’s power-to-weight simply laughs in the face of the V8-powered Prancing Horse. See for yourself by watching the video after the jump, then check out the accompanying article in the link below. Grazie per la punta, Steve!
