Nissan Juke with Albaisa

Design inspiration for the Nissan Juke – Click above to watch video after the jump

The 2011 Nissan Juke has what some might call ‘controversial’ styling. It’s downright polarizing. So, where did Nissan pull its inspiration from in order to craft these lines? Alfonso Albaisa is the Vice President of Nissan Design Europe and he’s here to explain exactly why the Juke looks like it does.

Albaisa states that the essence of the Juke “captures the pure life of a 30-something year-old guy.” The vehicle is aimed at a younger demographic of new car buyer and Nissan’s goal was to turn lifestyle elements into design features. The interior is supposed to be reminiscent of a person wearing a wetsuit while the front end is intended to invoke visions of a rally car.

Automotive designers are always entertaining to listen to, and Alfonso Albaisa is no exception. His descriptive language wended its way into our brains giving us a greater appreciation for Nissan’s little sporty crossover. Don’t believe us? Listen to the man in the clip after the jump.

Porsche 911 attacked by wild turkeys
Wild turkeys attack Porsche 911 – Click above to watch the video after the jump

We’ve been guilty of over-ogling a Porsche or two in our time, but we’ve never become obsessed to the point of chasing a 911 up and down the road. But alas, there are some out there who are so star-struck by the sight of a well-crafted German sports coupe that they will resort to following its every move. In fact, we do have video of a pair of crazy turkeys that are virtually glued to just such a Porsche.

And when we say “turkey,” we’re not talking 1970s slang for someone who is “unreliable, makes empty promises, or who is full of bluster.” We’re talking about a pair of delicious, plump and angry wild birds looking to protect their turf at all costs. Hit the jump to watch the oddly funny video. Keep in mind that there are a couple of points where the distracted driver holding the camera forgets to stop recording (especially :50 in to the 1:18 mark), making for a bit of a nauseating viewing experience.

Jay Leno drives the Scarab replica

Jay Leno samples the new Scarab – Click above to watch video after the jump

Jay Leno gets to spend many a minute examining some of the coolest rides on the planet. The latest vehicle to grace his garage is a modern revival of a classic racing name – Scarab.

The original Scarab was a race car built for Lance Reventlow, a wealthy young playboy who was the only child to Barbara Hutton, the heiress to the Woolworth’s fortune. Reventlow wasn’t just a rich kid looking for some excitement, he started racing Cooper Formula 2 cars in Europe before opening Reventlow Automobiles back in Venice, California. The car his team campaigned was the beautifully proportioned Scarab and it achieved success right out of the gate. Carroll Shelby even spent time behind the wheel of a Scarab, breaking the course record at Continental Divide Raceway in the process. The car has an impressive history but its not widely spoken about because of its short lifespan.

Formed in 2008, Scarab Motorsports is looking to revive the name coined by Reventlow. Starting with a handcrafted aluminum body built to the original car’s specifications, the Scarab Motorsports team adds coilover shocks and springs, Wilwood 12-inch rotors with stainless steel lines and the standard array of items necessary to make this a street legal vehicle. The price of the new Scarab starts at $79,750 and that ‘s just for the rolling chassis and a bunch of standard items. There are many optional items available as well, including a right-hand drive setup, roll hoop and other competition-minded features.

Check out Leno talking about the car with its creator, then taking it out for a spin. The video is parked in section A-J, as in after the jump.

Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale gets more pics, video, configurator and mini-site

Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale – Click above for high-res image gallery

We weren’t looking for any more reasons to fall hard for the new Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale. It’s the hottest machine to wear the Trident emblem since the Enzo-derived MC12 homologated supercar, packing a 450-horsepower V8, a track-ready chassis, optimized aero that increases downforce without dialing up the drag and a stripped-out interior. In short, it is to the “ordinary” GranTurismo what its sister-company’s Scuderia is to the Ferrari F430: a transformation. But in case we needed any more convincing after seeing it up close on the Paris show stand, Maserati has released a whole slew of fresh media for your drooling enjoyment.

Click on the thumbnails below to view the new crop of high-res photos, hit the jump to watch the video or click the link to hit the dedicated mini-site, complete with online configurator.

Video: Watch the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 flogged on the ‘Ring

2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 – Click above to view the video after the jump

We’ve seen the Camaro Z28 from nearly every angle, but we haven’t seen it driven in anger. That’s rectified today with the release of a new spy video showing Chevrolet’s 500+ horsepower pony car being flogged at the Nürburgring in preparation for its debut within the next few months. More impressive than the supercharger whine emanating from the 6.2-liter LSA V8, is the surprising lack of squat, dive and body roll as the Z28 launches out of the starting gate, tackles a few high speed turns and comes flying out of the Carousel. See for yourself in the video after the jump.

Motor Trend compares the Bentley Mulsanne to the Hyundai Equus

Bentley Mulsane versus… Hyundai Equus? – Click above to watch video after the jump

With the launch of the all-new Equus, Hyundai has taken another step towards the deep end of the luxury car segment. However, Bentley has a touch more experience in this arena and its new Mulsanne is decadence on wheels. The two companies sit on opposite ends of the automotive spectrum, but Motor Trend seems to think they warrant a comparison. We suspect Bentley will not be pleased…

Two of MT’s scribes hop into the back of both the Equus and the Mulsanne for a chat about the two luxury sedans, and one of them is none other than Autoblog alum Jonny Lieberman, decked out in his fancy new buff-book duds (the other is MT stalwart Ed Loh). Both vehicles pack a fair amount of amenities, but the difference between $70,000 and $330,000 (with $42k in options) is patently obvious. Just check out the cupholders. So, grab some pâté and a jar of Grey Poupon and check out the video after the jump.

Video: ’76 Mazda pickup is the perfect base for a Radio Flyer wagon. Who knew?

Radio Flyer pickup

Radio Flyer truck – Click above to watch the video after the jump

If you’ve ever thought about picking up a yellow Hummer and painting the word “Tonka” across the side or building a working replica of your favorite Hot Wheels fantasy car, have we got a story for you. An elderly couple in Alaska has built a jumbo Radio Flyer wagon out of an old truck, and what’s more, they drive it around Anchorage on a regular basis.

The underpinnings were borrowed from a 1976 Mazda pickup which Judy Foster (not to be confused with the Silence of the Lambs star, Jodie) inherited from her father. After they took possession, her husband Fred Keller started an eleven-month project to turn it into an overgrown childhood dream. The result is reportedly fully street legal and gets nothing but smiles wherever it goes. Fred and Judy will just have to watch that eight-foot tall handle clearing any low ceilings in parking garages. Follow the jump to watch the KTUU video segment for yourself.

Video: Nissan Juke – The Ultimate Donut Machine?

Nissan Juke drift

Nissan Juke on a donut run – Click above to watch the video after the jump

Is the 2011 Nissan Juke a smart tool for doing donuts? It’s a fun whip, but as a front- or front-biased all-wheel driver, we’re leaning very close to ‘No.’ Is the Juke a great tool for getting donuts? After watching Nissan’s new ad for its little crossover, we might just have to say ‘Yes.’

The first Juke ad we saw went in a rather weird direction, however this new spot plays up the CUV’s sportiness. The Juke squeezes 188 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque from its 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Pair that with an available six-speed manual transmission and a curb weight that sits on the good side of 3,000 pounds (for the front-wheel drive model), and you have a tiny machine capable of a surprising amount of thrills behind the wheel.

Grab the e-brake and drift on over to the jump to see the donut-run action, along with a second bonus commercial in which the Juke takes on ‘The Dread.’ Thanks to everyone for the tips!

Lancia Stratos testing teaser – Click above to watch the video after the jump

We’ll admit it: The New Lancia Stratos project gets us all hot and bothered. This special Ferrari F430-based one-off will make its official debut sometime next month, and the pre-reveal teasers are continuing to pour in.

This time around, we see the Stratos revival team working with former Formula 1 driver Tiago Monteiro to fine-tune the chassis out on Italy’s Balocco test track. The Stratos’ body is constructed out of carbon fiber and with its slim-and-trim curb weight and 50:50 weight distribution, we have no doubts that it will be an absolute hoot out on the track.

See the latest teaser video for yourself, after the jump, and stay tuned for the full Stratos details next month.

Video: Hennessey runs its “Coupe DeThrill” down the quarter-mile

2011 Hennessey V700 Coupe

2011 Hennessey V700 Coupe on the dragstrip – Click above to watch video after the jump

We think the 304 horsepower Cadillac CTS Coupe is pretty cool and the 556 hp CTS-V Coupe is an outright badass. The power pundits at Hennessey think any car or truck could use a little more oomph than it leaves the factory with. John Hennessey’s crew has massaged the blown LSA motor under the two-door Caddy’s bulging hood and the results scream for themselves. The 2011 Hennessey V700 Coupe pushes out 700 hp to the rear wheels and makes nearly 740 pound-feet of torque.

How does that all that power do when the car is launched down the dragstrip? The trip from tree to finish takes just over 11 seconds. Hop the jump to see the action for yourself.
