Rumormill: Range Rover Sport and Evoque rumored to get RS versions

Filed under: Performance, SUV, Land Rover, Rumormill, Luxury, Off-Road

2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

A report in Autocar claims that Jaguar’s RS badge and its herd of extra horsepower is walking across the aisle to the Land Rover stable. Autocar sources say the Range Rover Sport and Evoque will get RS designations, the supercharged V8 in the Sport RS getting cranked up to “at least” 542 horsepower, the 2.0-liter EcoBoost in the Evoque RS getting 300.

The magazine has spy shots of an extra potent Sport testing at the Nürburgring, slight changes to the lower parts of the SUV giving it away as a ringer. Supposedly, with the same horsepower (or more) than the RS cars in the Jaguar fold, Land Rover wants it to get from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds; that would make it just 0.1 second shy of the same run in a Jaguar XJR. The Evoque RS is said to be arriving first, perhaps this year, with the Range Rover Sport RS coming next year.

Followup: Range Rover Evoque convertible reportedly gets go-ahead after all

Filed under: Convertible, SUV, Land Rover, Luxury

Despite a report earlier this year stating that a production version of the Range Rover Evoque Convertible was shot down, there have been signs suggesting otherwise recently. Last week, we heard that the fate of this two-door, drop-top SUV could be decided upon soon, but WhatCar? says that the decision has already been made.

Quoting an insider, the article states that the Evoque Convertible has been given a green light for production with the first units being built next year. WhatCar? also says that no structural modifications are necessary for the removal of the roof, which could lessen the development time and cost of the vehicle.

As there are really no luxury SUV convertibles with which to compete against, Land Rover seems to be expecting the Evoque Convertible to rival convertibles such as the Audi TT and BMW 4 Series. We’re a bit dubious, but time will tell.

Report: Land Rover to decide soon on production Evoque Convertible

Filed under: Concept Cars, Convertible, SUV, Geneva Motor Show, Land Rover, Luxury

Land Rover Evoque Convertible

Ignoring the lessons learned from the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet, it appears Land Rover may be about to greenlight production of the Range Rover Evoque Convertible. At least, that’s what Australian website Car Advice is saying.

The topic came up at a Land Rover executive meeting for the Asia Pacific region, with brand director John Edwards supporting the idea.

Really, it’s not hard to see the dollar signs in Land Rover’s eyes. The Evoque has been a runaway success for the Anglo-Indian brand, and is largely responsible for it cresting 300,000 units sold in 2012. But this piece also flies in the face of previous reports, arguing against a production Evoque Convertible due to a lack of public demand.

As popular as an Evoque Convertible would be with the Real Housewives set, all the scuttlebutt has been against a production for the droptop Land Rover, going back to its debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. With the 2013-2014 auto show season on the horizon, though, we can expect a definitive answer soon.

Telly is all grown up. Or, at least the actor that protrayed him in the film Kids is. Leo Fitzpatrick, who also portrayed drug addict Johnny Weeks on The Wire, has decided to go in a different direction for Land Rover’s new interactive film Being Henry.

The spot was created by Land Rover as a unique means to tout the many personalization options for its new Evoque. Directed by Nick Gordon, Being Henry allows the viewer to jump into the story and take control of Henry’s actions. The result is an engaging, humorous and very different way for an automaker to advertise a product.

Once you reach the end of your decision making process, “the voice” comes in and shows you what type of Evoque fits the decisions you make. We will warn you that some of the language is certainly not safe for work, but the film is definitely worth a few moments of your time. Click past the jump to view a trailer of the film. After that, head over to the Being Henry website to start your journey.

Land Rover Evoque goes wireframe – Click above to watch video after the jump

Land Rover is officially in love with wireframe artwork. In September of 2010, four artists were commissioned to produce wireframe interpretations of the Range Rover Evoque. For the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Land Rover reached out to artist Benedict Radcliffe for a redux of sorts.

Radcliffe’s wireframe take on the Range Rover Evoque is (supposedly) meant to showcase the personalization options available to Land Rover customers. The entire piece can be broken down into several smaller pieces that showcase various options available on the Evoque.

Click past the jump to watch a behind-the-scenes video that shows how Radcliffe produces his wireframe artwork. So… how long until this piece shows up at the Tate Modern?

Rumormill: Jaguar considering shooting brake, Evoque-based CUV

Jaguar is looking to expand on its existing lineup of vehicles. Currently, Leaping Cat buyers can choose from variants on the two-door XK, four-door XF and flagship XJ sedan. A two-door, four-passenger XJ-based coupe is reportedly in the works and will take aim at the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class. Also apparently being discussed is a shooting-brake based on the XF and an entry-level crossover based on the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.

According to Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director for Jaguar, crossovers will be a definite part of the automaker’s future. Besides the proposed entry-level Evoque-based CUV, Jaguar is considering another crossover based on the Range Rover Sport.

Project Kahn working on Cosworth-powered Range Rover Evoque

Filed under: Aftermarket, Performance, SUV, Land Rover, UK, Luxury, Off-Road

It’s not every day that a new Range Rover is introduced. But when one is, you can count on Azfal Kahn and his crew to go to work on it. And the new Evoque appears to be no exception.

Beyond the photo above, all Project Kahn has released so far about its tuning program for the Evoque is that (a) it’s working on one, (b) it’s coming some time in the new year and (c) it’ll be powered by Cosworth. Kahn has worked with the racing engine manufacturer on previous projects, so that’s no big revelation by itself, but it’ll be interesting to see what the two British firms have got in store for the new baby Rover beyond a set of flashy rims.

LA 2010: 2012 Range Rover Evoque sprouts a set of rear doors

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Five-Door

We first met the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque at this year’s Paris Motor Show, and its five-door sister makes its official debut today at the LA Auto Show. The Evoque is a huge departure from what we’ve commonly known of things that wear the Range Rover name, and it’s poised to be a real hit amongst the urban, luxury lifestyle set. Power comes from a range of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, and all-wheel drive is standard – it is a Land Rover, after all.

Both the three- and five-door Evoques go on sale in the summer of next year, and Land Rover states that pricing will start around $45,000. See the new five-door Evoque for yourself in the high-res image gallery below and/or peep the mega-sized press release from Land Rover after the jump.

Range Rover Evoque art installations pop up across Paris

Land Rover is very happy to show off its new Evoque. In fact, the automaker just commissioned an artist to create wire-frame versions of the little luxury crossover. The pieces, of which there are four, have been placed as art installations throughout Paris. The whole concept is designed to highlight the model during its world debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

Four artists were chosen to create the pieces; André (a.k.a. “Monsieur A”), JCDC, Surface To Air and Yorgo Touplas. The unique units can be seen now through the end of September.

We’re big fans of wire-frame artwork because it presents a very unique perspective on an everyday object. It’s a smart way for Land Rover to get the Parisian locals and visitors talking about their newest model, especially since the city is currently filled with automotive journalists attending the Paris Motor Show and fashionistas in town for Paris Fashion Week.

Paris Preview: Five-door Range Rover Evoque caught prepping for show [w/video]

Filed under: Spy Photos, Paris Motor Show, Crossover, Land Rover, Luxury

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque five-door

When Land Rover officially revealed the Range Rover Evoque they didn’t include a single shot of the five-door baby crossover utility. Thankfully, someone with early access to the upcoming Paris Motor Show floor decided that was some kind of crime, and so they took shots of the more family-minded Evoque occupying the Land Rover stand. The secret snapper also got images of the cabin, and we think it’s beautiful distillation of the Range Rover Sport’s interior language. We can’t wait to see it ourselves next week.

For now, have a look at the link below for more shots of the Evoque five-door, and be sure to hit the jump for a video of the two-door.
