Scott Burgess, Auto Critic for The Detroit NewsFollowing an official apology by his former and once again present editors, Scott Burgess, auto critic for The Detroit News, has returned to the newspaper. Burgess had resigned after changes were made to a review he had written that criticized the 2011 Chrysler 200 sedan, apparently in response to complaints made by parties that advertised with the paper. Naturally, we wish Burgess the best of luck with his reborn career with The Detroit News. [Source: Jalopnik]

Opinion: Obama should have tapped Ford’s Mulally for adviser role, not Immelt

Immelt and Obama

When President Obama tapped General Electric chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt to be his top outside economic adviser, my first reaction was: Really?

Maybe I’m partial to the auto industry, the industry I follow the closest, but my next reaction was: Was Ford CEO Alan Mulally’s line busy? His email down?

Immelt took over for legendary CEO Jack Welch in 2001. And I’ve never been aware of a huge fan club for Immelt as a great CEO. According to published reports, though, he is very socially and politically connected, and has visited the White House some 16 times since Obama took office.

Poll: Jeremy Clarkson best role model for boys, second only to David Beckham

Jeremy Clarkson in car, smoking

Don’t get us wrong; we really and truly enjoy ourselves some Jeremy Clarkson every now and again, just so long as it’s in measured doses, of course. But to consider the top bloke at Top Gear as a role model for boys? Now, that there might just be a bridge too far.

All the same, a new poll administered by Disney XD asked 601 male children in the UK between the ages of eight and 14, and the results suggest that the litl’uns chose Clarkson as their second favorite role model, behind only football superstar David Beckham. *Sigh.*

Also placing highly in the minds of young British boys was another footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, Alan Sugar (self-made billionaire and host of the UK version of The Apprentice) and Daniel Radcliffe (star of the Harry Potter movies). Bill Gates, Simon Cowell, Barack Obama, Justin Bieber and Roger Federer rounded out the list.

Can we all just agree that one Jeremy Clarkson is all the world is capable of handling? And really… wouldn’t you just rather be The Stig?
